A/N: So before you start reading, I apologize for this chapter being so short. I will try to make it up to you with another update this week. Thank you so much for reading this story and sticking with me. I love this AU so much. I have so much more to say but I'm gonna be wrapping it up soon. I will probably make an adventures of story that's separate after I'm done with this whole thing.
No Beta so all mistakes are mine. Enjoy the chapter! :)
Myka was in tears as she was dropped carefully onto a couch. She scrambled to get up, but Pete and Steve held her back, stopping her from running out those doors again.
"Let me go! I have to get Helena. Please!" Myka fought harder than she ever had; leaving both men out of breath. Her will was enough to test their strength and patience as they held on tighter. Claudia stood by the entrance of the warehouse. She was sure she wouldn't be able to stop Myka if she got out of the guys hold, but she was going to try. "Helena needs me!" Myka's voice was worn, but her fear and anger ripped through everyone.
"Mykes, HG will be okay." Pete tried to calm their friend down. "Look at me... Myka look at me!" Pete left Steve to hold her body as he released his hold and gripped the sides of Myka's face gently. "Mykes..." He tried again. Even when Myka looked directly into his eyes, her mind wasn't there. "HG is immortal." Myka stopped struggling. "She'll be okay and she'll find her way back to us alright?"
"Just because she's immortal, doesn't mean she can't feel pain. He was killing her Pete." Myka struggled with that thought for a moment before her friend held on a little tighter. "She'll come back to me."
"She'll come back to you." Pete nodded at Steve who let go, as he wrapped his arms around the shivering woman, pulling her into a tight hug. "I promise." His voice held such a resolve that no one would have been able to tell something was wrong; even Steve couldn't tell, but Myka saw it in his eyes.
"What's wrong Pete?"
"Just a feeling. I'm just confused because I can't tell if it's good or bad."
Myka bolted out of the seat, past Pete. Luckily Steve and Claudia got her in time. "Woah! Myka." The red head had never seen or felt this kind of strength since the first time she experienced HG's nightmares. "Please stop!" Myka fell to the floor, she didn't know how to compete with the emotions welling up inside her chest, she couldn't breathe.
"Just let me go find her. Please!"
"Why is it so important? She'll come back okay?" Claudia was holding onto Myka's shoulders, sitting in front of her on the ground.
"Because I love her and I need to make sure she's okay."
Everyone had a feeling that the two were close in that way, but no one would have guessed love. "Mykes. She'll come back okay? She always comes back and when she does, you'll be here waiting for her and you guys can talk about everything that's going on."
It took a while, but everyone was finally able to coax Myka back to the couch. They all sat with her. Pete and Steve were eating a snack while Claudia read aloud. Myka just stayed silent, looking off into the large room. They would just have to wait for their friend to return to them. If they left the warehouse, it could cause more harm than good and only one was willing to risk it; but for now she sat staring into space.
...
Helena closed her eyes, concentrating so hard that the rest of the world tuned out to the sound of ringing in her head. She knew what dying felt like; she had tried so many times before. She waited; stopped struggling and fighting until McPherson let his guard down. She knew he would... they all do.
As soon as the pressure around her neck lightened, Helena fought back. She pushed James up and kicked him square in the gut, sending him toppling over. She stood quickly, shaking her head and allowing the oxygen to help her focus. She walked over to the man who lay vulnerable on his side and gave him another swift kick, making sure he wasn't going anywhere.
"You!" James spit out. "You're the reason I was lost. You said no!"
"You know you really should get over that little incident." McPherson tried to get up, pushing himself with as much strength as he could. "No you don't." Helena kicked him once more. "I'm terribly sorry James. I truly am; but it wasn't fair either way. The world isn't fair! If I had any say in how the world worked, things would be much different." There was ice and venom in those dark eyes; a destructive nature that Helena thought she had been able to tame.
"You were being selfish HG. You were angry at Arthur for letting me..."
"No! It was never about you and you know it James. He let my daughter die." Helena kneeled in front of McPherson, he was done; weakened by age. "He let my child, my flesh and blood... the only thing that mattered to me; he let her die. But for some reason you slipped through the cracks in that old mans hard heart and he wanted to give you the gift that he denied my child! What made you so special?"
"And because of you, the warehouse abandoned me..."
"Yes. I suppose she was apologizing for Arthur's actions. No one else did." Helena looked directly into McPherson's eyes. In that moment she saw the young boy that had stumbled into the warehouse all those years ago. "Look at us James. We're all still here. Stuck." McPherson's gaze rose as Helena continued. "Do you remember what Irene told you when you first asked about the water? About living forever."
"A lovely little story..."
"She took you to the river. She told you to look at it, the life, the movement. The water flowed, fish lived and moved with the current, everything had breath. Then she picked up a rock and handed it to you. James, we are just like the stones in the river. Everything moves past us and we're just... we watch it all go by. We can never really be apart of it. We can't go forward, can't go back. We simply are."
"How did you know that?"
"She did the same with me after Christina died. She wanted to help me heal, but it only confused me more. I understand it now James." Helena thought she had the mans attention. Little did she know, James gaze fell to the chain hanging around Helena's neck; or rather the vial that dangled from it. He surged forward and reached for it, tackling Helena to the ground.
"Give me the water!"
Helena threw her hand over the vial of liquid, clutching it so tightly to her chest that she could feel her nails digging into her skin. "Please James." She knew him as a young boy and still saw him as such; even though he was now a horrid old man. "I can't let you have it... I won't."
James clawed at Helena's hands, holding her down with his weight and rage. Helena was screaming, not in fear but in an attempt to fuel her own fire. She looked around and saw a large rock sitting to her right. James would be able to get the water for sure if she let go, even if only for a second. She reached out with her right hand, stretching as far as she could. Her fingertips brushed against the rough, hard surface until she could roll it; as soon as her palm hit the rock she gripped it tight, closed her eyes and slammed it against the side of McPherson's head. She didn't open her eyes right away but she instantly felt the body on top of her collapse by her side. She didn't drop her hand, but felt a warm liquid trailing down her arm. The only reason she opened her eyes was because she suddenly heard the rustling of leaves followed by mens voices.
"Hey!" One of them shouted.
Helena jumped up and staggered a little as she regained her footing. She saw the blood on the rock in her hand and the body on the ground. She dropped the rock and ran as fast as she could.
"Stop her!" She heard them screaming after her. "Don't let her get away... she killed him."
Helena ran. She just ran in circles. They were hunters, but she knew these woods better than anyone. She lead them away from the warehouse, away from the people she loved. She couldn't risk them finding Myka just yet. She just had to run.
I know it's short! I wish I could make it longer and it almost was but I put the other half into the next chapter and you'll see why when you read it. ;)
Thanks for reading this story and please review and comment. I love hearing from you. Love you all so much. xoxo
