Heaven LaFratta's POV

Darkness. Darkness everywhere. I don't know where I am. I'm falling through space into a dark abyss. I'm dead and I know it. That cut from Edward must have been worse than I thought.

The only thought that keeps me going is James. What is he thinking now that I am dead? I'll miss you James... I never got to tell you how I really felt about you. Now it's too late.

As I'm falling through darkness, the unexpected happens. Like a light at the end of a tunnel, the darkness slowly goes away and I'm suddenly covered in light. As I open my eyes, my vision is blurry at first, but eventually, I can make out the form of the cornucopia. Could it be? I'm still alive! I could have a chance at winning! I have a second chance, and I'm not going to blow it.

When I finally gain enough strength to stand up, I look around to see if there are any items left over from the bloodbath. A wide grin comes across my face as I see a small box on the other side of the 'Capital'. I begin to walk forward as I notice the condition of my right arm. I can't believe I haven't bled to death, it's such a mess. As I turn around, I notice a red blinking light where I was unconscious. I look down at my arm and realize that my tracker is gone! It must have been lost when I was cut by Edward. I could hide for the entire games and the Gamemakers won't be able to find me! I know that I will be able to use this to my advantage. But, I won't be able to if I die of blood loss.

As I continue to stumble over to the small box, I try to keep my balance for I am still disoriented from being knocked out. When I finally reach the box, I open it up and I can't believe my eyes. Inside the container is a bandage, a single energy bar and painkillers! I quickly wrap the bandage around my bleeding arm, the cloth immediately becoming a deep crimson. Then, I swallow two of the pills, leaving four of them left. Then, I choose a district at random, District Four, which will probably have water and I begin my journey into the Games.

Dannin Grande's POV

"Come on! We have to keep moving!" I shout to Lacey and Justice, who are straggling behind me. Since Gertrude was killed in the bloodbath by Marble from District One, our group was down to five people. Right now, we are wondering through the streets of District Six, trying to find a good place for shelter.

When we first entered Six, the first thing we did was to go to a merchants shop to look for food, but it was completely empty. Figures, there would be too much food if the buildings had some.

Since we were in our fancy dresses, it was hard for us to move that quickly. Justice had ditched her heels a long time ago and was walking down the street with bare feet. Since her dress was shorter, she didn't have as much difficulty moving, like Lacey. She was in a tight sparkly dress that went all the way to the floor and was constantly tripping over it. My dress is a similar style to Justice's, the two of us were walking without a problem.

"Ugh! I can't stand this dress! I've had enough. Sorry about this, Astrid!" Lacey shouts. Then, with all of her strength, she rips her dress so the material ends at her knees. She balls up the spare parts of her dress and wraps it around her shoulders for warmth. I can just imagine the look on the stylists' faces at the fact that Lacey just ruined one of the most popular dresses at the interviews. But whatever, this is the Hunger Games, who cares how you look?

When we finally reach the centre of District Six, we set down all of our stuff underneath a bridge and set up camp. Lacey takes out the tarp that she got at the bloodbath and strings it up with some of Justice's rope. I take out my sleeping bag and set it in the centre. Once camp is all set up, the three of us sit around and take a break. I pass around my small water bottle and each of us take turns sipping from it, making sure to leave some for later.

"Do you think we should set up a fire? Lacey has some matches," Justice suggests.

"Absolutely not! Do you want to get killed? Remember the girl from District Nine last year who set a fire? The careers found her and burned her alive!" I warn her.

"Fine, then. We still have a few hours until night though. What should we do to pass the time?" Justice asks.

"We stay alive."

For the next hour, the three of us make small talk until we hear a rustle in the bushes.

"What was that?" Lacey asks.

"Hellooo girls!" A woman dressed entirely in pink steps out, joined by many other people dressed in capital clothes, "Congratulations! You three have won the mid Game makeover!"

"Makeover?" I ask.

"Step right up and we'll get you looking absolutely dazzling!" A male stylist chirps.

"Come on, we won't bite!" The pink lady says.

One of the stylists pulls Lacey over and examines her dress.

"Oh my! You've got a little tear!" A woman dressed in gold exclaims. In moments, the rough edges of her orange dress are sew and repaired, making it look as good as new.

"Darling, your extensions are getting messed up!" Another stylists grabs me and holds me down as they reattach the fake hair and re pin my lady bug hair clip.

"Stop it!" I yell as I push the stylist who fixed my hair.

"But we're just trying to help and this is how you repay us!" The stylist growls at me, "Then you will all PAY!" Suddenly, she isn't a well mannered capitalite, she is a vicious beast. As she bares her pearly white teeth at us, the others do the same.

"Get... Them..." She growls. All of the stylists launch into full out attack mode. Lacey quickly grabs her lasso and runs at them, taking one in a chokehold while I get the darts that I got in the cornucopia. Since Justice failed to get a weapon, she begins to flee from the devilish stylists.

I take out at least three of the seven stylists and I see that Lacey has gotten two and is working on a third. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Justice struggling with the final one, the one dressed in gold. I rush over to help her, but it's too late. With a final blow with her claws, Justice falls to the ground.

BOOM!

In a rage, I take out one my darts and I fire it it the mutt. With one weakling growl, she falls next to Justice.

"Justice!" I hear Lacey call. I just stand in shock. It is only the first day and half of the pack is dead.

"Lacey, come on. One of us was going to die anyways," I tell her.

"Justice was my friend! Now she's dead, Dannin. She was my friend! You don't even care about her. You wouldn't even care if I died! You were just going to betray us one, by one weren't you?" Lacey screams in my face.

"No! I swear, I didn't want any of this to happen," I defend myself.

"Liar! You know what? I'm leaving. Keep the stuff, I don't care! Goodbye, Dannin. I hope you die!" She storms away, taking only her lasso with her.

I am alone in the arena, my two friends both gone within minutes.
