Athena May's POV
Run. That's the only thing that is going through my head. Run for your life and don't look back. On my back is the pack that I got from the Cornucopia. I haven't had the chance to look through it, but I'm hoping for some food. As soon as the gong went off, I sprinted as fast as I could, barely stoping for the backpack. Then, I took off in a random direction, which ended up being District Three. I could tell by the lack of trees and industrial buildings. Also, from what I could see on TV.
Finally, after I'm sure that I've run at least a mile, a take a rest underneath a balcony at a merchants booth. I didn't even bother checking the shops for food, since I already know that the Gamemakers wouldn't make it too easy.
Traveling was hard in my dress. First of all, I stood out in the canary yellow color. Also, it is styled like it was in the 1800s, with a hoop skirt and a wire rim. The skirt is about twice as wide as I am talk, so it's nearly impossible to move in this thing.
As I open my backpack, I'm elated to find that I have a pack of crackers, a water bottle, a spool of string and a bandana. I'm not exactly sure how some of these things will come in handy, but you never know. I carefully pack everything back into my bag and I decide to search for water. In the town square of district Three, I doubt that there would be any natural water sources. Therefore, I head to the outskirts, where maybe, there would be something to drink, as my throat is parched from all of the running.
Unfortunately, my hopes of finding natural water or even a fountain, are dashed when even in the outskirts of Three, there is absolutely no wildlife. Well, it's probably to be expected from one of the industrial districts like Three, Five and Six. Why couldn't I have chosen Four or Seven, where the terrain would be easier for survival? Well, whatever. I'll just head to District Four, where hopefully I can find water. However, I can only hope that no one, especially the careers, have already claimed it as their own.
Jazmine Vierra's POV
This is so much fun! I've only been in the arena for a few hours and I already have a kill! Well, it's hard to count that fat kid from eight as a kill, but I do so anyways. Astar was way too easy. I had taken my time at the Cornucopia, carefully selecting what weapons I wanted and which ones were too useless. After a few minutes of searching, I looked up to find that that idiot was still hanging about. Since he was too fat to run very fast and his tight suit limited him, he was as slow as a snail. He's pathetic, too. As soon as I raised my axe to end his pitiful life, he trips over his own feet and falls to the ground. I enjoyed killing him, but I would have preferred someone a little more challenging.
As Scarlett and I wander leisurely around the arena, without a care in the world, we pass through about every single district. Since each section is like a wedge from a pie, one side is thinner than the other. Therefore to cover more ground, we stayed only about a quarter mile radius away from the center. Scarlett and I sort of had a monopoly over it.
As we've been wandering for over an hour, Scarlett speaks for the first time since the bloodbath.
"Don't you think we'd cover more ground if we went deeper into the Districts? We've taken all of the good stuff from the centre, I think we should find some more tributes."
"Fine, then. Let's go to District Two. I'm sure everyone has gone there, even the careers. We'll have a little more of a challenge besides a fat kid and dorky twelve year old," I suggest, an evil grin forming on my face.
As we begin our journey to District Two, I hear a chiming noise, the noise that every tribute wants to hear.
"Do you hear that, Scarlett?" I ask happily. It's a sponsor parachute! But, we don't really need anything, so what could it possibly be?
The two of us run towards the noise as a small container lands at my feet. 'Jazmine Vierra, District Seven', the print on the side reads.
"What do you think it is?" Scarlett asks me.
"One second! Let me get this thing open first!" I grunt as I pull the lid off the top.
"O.M.G! This is the best thing ever!" I immediately recognize the small bottle as 'dead of night', a poison used in some of the previous games. Very few tributes received it, and if they did, they usually won. The potion gives off a toxic fog, directed at the tribute that it is thrown at. If it's inhaled, the victim dies within seconds, but not after going through horrible pain. This is perfect. I'm not sure who I will use it on, but I'll save it for when I will really need it.
"We have these games in the bag!" I jump in the air in happiness.
"Poison. Nice! Who do you think you'll use it on?" My ally inquires.
"Not sure yet. But it's going to be spectacular! Come on, we need to get to District Two so we can get some more kills!" I shout and run of through the streets.
