Marble Monarch's POV

I look up and on the other side of the street is a grey wolf. It snarls and bares its teeth at us. Crystal lets out a shrill shriek and Mace stands up, his sword in his hand. Before it can come for us, I leap up, holding my sword and charge rapidly. But suddenly, as I get closer, the wolf gets larger and let's out a sickening snarl.

"Wait! Hold back!" I shout.

"Why? It's going to kill us!" James says, charging at the mutt. But then, it grows twice the size. James stumbles back from the now twenty foot tall muttation.

"Well if it grows whenever we charge, how are we going to kill it?" Crystal asks.

"I don't know! But we'll have to fight it somehow," Mace yells as he charges, taking his sword and stabbing the even larger beast in the neck. But, instead of dropping dead, it just shakes and the sword falls out.

"This thing is invincible!" James complains while stabbing the mutt in the legs multiple times, since it was the only part of the mutt he could reach.

"Try the stomach!" I shout.

Mace attempts to take his now bent sword and slice at the stomach. But just as his sword is about to make contact, the mutt grows even more, the belly now out of reach. The beast growls again and swipes at Mace, who falls to the ground, clutching his leg.

"It's out of reach! We can't get it!" James shouts.

"Crystal, come over here! I have an idea. Get in my shoulders and take my sword. When I say 'now' stab the wolf!" I order. Without hesitation, Crystal hops on my back and takes my sword. I charge at the mutt and hope that this works. As we are directly under it, I shout, "Now!"

I jump up and Crystal holds her sword up in the air and...

Stabs the wolf!

We hear a whimpering noise as I land and Crystal and I stumble to the ground. We scramble out of the way as the wolf falls to ground with a thump. But as I look up, I see that the mutt is completely gone.

"Mace are you alright?" Crystal asks, worried.

"I'm fine. Hey Marble, can I talk to you for a second?"

"Sure, what's it about?" I ask.

Mace and I walk to a corner and talk in hushed voices.

"Those kids have to go. That girl is annoying and James is so immature," Mace retorts.

"Okay, but how?"

"Hear me out..." Mace explains an amazing plan to me, which gets me really thinking. This just might work, and who knows? Maybe it can help me win. Maybe.

Athena May's POV

Yes! Finally some water! I'm sitting at the edge of a pond in District Four, constantly filling and refilling my silver water bottle as I'm drinking bottle after bottle of water. The water has a slight sweetly sour taste, but I continue drinking. Unclean water is better than no water.

When my thirst is finally quenched, I sit back under a tree and stare across the pond, relieved that I have a few minutes of rest. Walking all this way in my puffy dress took hours. I need to find a way to be able to move easier, or else I will never be able to win these games.

Suddenly, I hear footsteps and a weak moaning. I peek behind the tree to see a girl with long blond hair slowly walking over, clutching a bleeding arm. Tears are pouring down her face as she looks down, wincing at the blood. She couldn't see me, for I was concealed being the tree, but I could see her clearly.

I pick up my stuff and prepare to run when I accidentally snap a twig. The girl looks up, alarmed.

"Who's there?" She whimpers, "Please, don't kill me!"

I step out from behind the tree and she moves back, scared.

"Don't worry. I won't hurt you. I'm Athena."

The girl looks up and sighs in relief.

"Heaven. Heaven LaFratta, District Twelve."

We just stand there for a few minutes, awkwardly, not knowing what to do.

Heaven shifts, uncomfortably, "So, umm, I was wondering... Do you want to be allies? I mean, I'm not killing you and you're not killing me. Since this is the Hunger Games, that pretty much makes us best friends."

I think for a moment and reply, "Sure. Why not?"

Apparently, the sponsors like us as an alliance because mere seconds later, two parachutes come floating down towards us. One has my name on it and the other has Heaven's.

Since I didn't want Heaven hurting her arm even more, I grab hers and open it. Inside Heaven's sponsor pack is a slice of honey baked ham, a pear, and a glass of some sort of brown bubbly beverage. On the side of the glass, it says, 'root beer'. Inside my package is is an array of objects. I got four knives, night vision goggles, a bowl of tomato soup, a loaf of bread and the best thing of all, a black jumpsuit with an eleven on the back.

As I'm emptying the container, I notice a small note on the bottom. It reads 'Stay hidden and safe with Heaven. -Maylin'. Nice to know that someone's looking out for me.

I quickly duck into a shack and change outfits, discarding my useless dress. When I get back, Heaven's meat is pretty much all gone and she's quietly sipping her root beer.

"Hey. How's the food?" I ask.

"Pretty good. You should try this root beer. It's, well, it's pretty hard to describe. We didn't have any of this in twelve," Heaven says. She passes me the glass and I take a small sip. Immediately, a sweet taste fills my mouth. It has so many flavors packed into one. I would almost call it spicy, but it was more than that, more like a pop.

"Wow..." I say, not knowing how to describe the drink.

"We shouldn't stay in one spot for too long. Where do you want to go?" Heaven asks.

"I don't know. I really want to see what the other districts look like. I say we just wander randomly," I reply.

"Sounds good," Heaven says. We gather up all of our stuff and cramp,it into our packs and begin our journey.
