Phan Reska's POV
I am sprinting through the streets at top speed, trying to get away from Alex. Although I'm pretty sure he didn't come after me after I killed his sister, I still want o put as much distance as possible between us. I'm not exactly sure how far I've run, but I'm assuming at least five miles, since I've gone all the way from Eleven to Seven. I can't get that image of Natasha and the beetles out of my head. It's hard to believe that mere moments before, I was ignorant and blissfully in love. As it turned out, I was just a pawn for her tricks. I was a fool.
I breathe a sigh of relief as the familiar forests of District Seven come into view. Quickly, I climb into the first tree I find, delighted by the reminder of home, however small it is. I rest my head against the comforting rough bark and relax. Back when I was a kid, I would always come up in the trees and camp there. Occasionally, I would even spend the night. Being amongst the trees made me feel as if I'm on top,of the world. I could spent the entire games here! I'm one of the best climbers and nobody would ever find me. I would have to come down sometimes, but until then, I would be content.
Without a care in the world, I drift off into a light sleep, even though it wasn't even the afternoon. After what appears to be a few hours, I am woken by the gentle sound of bells. I look up to find that, stuck in a branch a few limbs above me, there is a silver container and a parachute. A wide smile comes across my face and I quickly scamper up to grab my presents. Lilac really has been looking out for me. I open the container to find an apple, a small bottle of water, four more knives and the best thing of all, a sword. Attached to the bronze handle is a small note. I open it up and read.
"Good job, Phan. They love you and are waiting."
She means my family. I miss them with all my heart and I WILL win these games for them. I tuck my knives into my pack with the others, along with my water bottle. I keep my sword and mace out, just in case and I begin to munch on the apple. The sweet taste fills my mouth and satisfies the hunger that has been plaguing me for hours. Finally, some peace.
Lacey Gage's POV
I can't believe her! Dannin betrayed me! She seemed completely unfazed by Justice's death. Wait, no, murder! I sort of wished that I had killed Dannin right then, but I guess I was too enraged to think straight. The unfortunate thing was that when I left, I didn't grab any of my stuff. The only thing I have now is my Punjab Lasso, which will only work as a weapon. I'll probably starve or get dehydrated.
After I stormed away from Dannin, I marched in a random direction and somehow ended up in the Town Square of District Nine. Why am I even here? There's nothing I need from Nine. All of the shops and houses are completely empty. There must be some way that I can find food. I can't depend on sponsors.
Suddenly, I hear a chiming sound. Maybe I can depend on sponsors! I look around for the source of the noise, but can't seem to find it anywhere. It isn't in the trees or in the streets. Finally, I notice the sliver shimmer up on top of the Justice Building. If I am ever going to get it, I'm going to have to climb. Figures, the Gamemakers won't make everything too easy.
Quickly, I tie my rope to my waist so I can easily get to it and begin to climb. I guess that this is the one situation where the run down quality of the district comes in handy. Instead of smooth surfaces like in the wealthy districts, the weathered building has many chunks missing, which can serve as handholds and footholds. After a few minutes of climbing, I'm about half way up, which is about twenty feet. I place my hands and feet in a few more wedges until I come to a predicament. The upper half of the building is less worn down meaning less spots to climb on. I frantically look around for any possible places to climb. Finally I decide to settle with using the window edge. The sill is thin, only about two inches wide, but it'll have to do if I'm ever going to get my tools. Since the ledge is about two feet to my left, I have no choice but to jump. I carefully balance myself and launch. I stumble for a second, but finally become stable after grabbing the edge of the window. The rest of the climb goes without a hitch and I finally make my way to the roof.
A sigh of relief escapes as my feet hit stable ground. Whatever is in this canister better be worth risking my life. I kneel down over the parachute and open the package. Inside is a small bag of peanut trail mix, about one serving and a small bottle of water. It's not much, but it could mean the difference between life and death for me. Now how am I going to get down from here? After making a circle around the roof, I realize that there are no easy ways down. Oh well, I'll just spend the rest of the day and night here. It is a great lookout spot and also, it will be nearly impossible for any more tributes to get to me.
