Cyra Gleams' POV

Today is day six of the games and I'm still alone in the outskirts of the arena. Yesterday was quite uneventful, ne deaths, no cannons, no entertainment for the Capital. This means that today is going to be one rough day.

The golden glimmer of the rising sun bathes the entire District Four in a bright layer of sunlight. The lightness and glimmer almost create the illusion that this is a happy place, instead of an arena where kids fight to the death. It is quite a façade, though. Brightly colored flowers throve in window boxes and birds, probably mockingjays, chirp in the distance. I hum a simple tune, going up the scale. A brief silence follows, then a chorus of cheerful chirping begins, quietly at first, but then expands to a choir of Mockingjays. This is why I love camping out in Four. The atmosphere is calm and just being there makes you want to sing. I'm caught in my own carefree world for the first time in I don't know how long. However, I'm disturbed from my private utopia as I hear bells for the first time since yesterday. I don't know what I just did to earn a sponsor, but really, I don't care.

The package is small, smaller than many of the items that I have seen tributes receive in the games. The silver container is slightly larger than the size of my fist, the parachute being about five times bigger than the actual box. I detach the cloth and tuck it away, I figure that it could come in handy later.

Opening the box, I find a small golden trinket, which appears to be some sort of key. But a key to what, exactly? Little did I know that I was not the only tribute to receive a key.

Athena May's POV

"What is it? Did you get one too?" Heaven asks me. A few seconds ago, we each got a package via sponsorship, with one of our names on each of it. However, it doesn't seem like a traditional sponsor gift. I hold up the small golden key in the sunlight and examine it. It seems like an ordinary key, like one for a house.

"What does it lead to?" I ask.

"I have no clue. There's no note or anything," Heaven speculates. Our questions are answered though, when the peppy but sinister voice of Jayla MacKenzie, the head Gamemaker, echoes through the arena.

"Good morning tributes! Since things have been moving a little slowly lately, we have decided to add some extra elements to the arena. As you all know, the arena has been divided into twelve section, which represent the districts. In each of your home districts, a replace of your homes have been placed. The keys that you received will unlock the entrance to your home, and only your home. Once you have located and entered your house, you will find an item that you need desperately. This will be our only announcement. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favor!"

I stare at my key in wonder. What could I possibly need? And would it be worth possibly risking my life. There must be some sort of catch, the Gamemakers wouldn't make something like that too easy.

"So which house do you want to go to first?" Heaven asks, tucking her key into her pack.

"I don't know. We could try yours. Maybe there's medicine for your arm. I don't really need anything, unlike you," I suggest.

It's true. Even though the bleeding in Heaven's arm has ceased, it still pains her to move, and if she does a sudden jerk, the stiches that I put in would easily come undone. It has already happened twice in the past few days, so I've had to redo them. Also, if we're not careful, her wound could become infected and she'd be as good as dead.

Alex Trent's POV

It has been days since I have entered District Seven, in hopes of finding Phan and taking my revenge on him. Even though I haven't managed to find him, I will never give up hope. I will find him if it's the last thing I do. Now that he has received his key, he will no doubt be on his way to Seven. My plan that I have formulated is foolproof. I will find his house and camp there until he arrives. I will then ambush him and he'll just become another face in the sky. Natasha will be avenged and I'll be one step closer to becoming a victor. Or maybe two steps, I realize as I hear a rustling in the bushes near me. I know that it is either another tribute or game, both of which would be fine with me. I clutch my sickle in my hands and hide behind a tree as I wait for my unlucky prey to walk right into my trap.

The rustling grows louder and a figure emerges from the brush. Immediately, I recognize her. She is the girl from District Three, Lacey. She hasn't noticed me as she continues her trek, making her the perfect target. With a surge of energy, I leap from my hiding spot and see a shocked look on her face as I hold my sickle above my head and crack down, a loud noise erupting from above.

BOOM!

Eleven left, ten more deaths to go. So long District Three, it doesn't seem like you'll have a victor this year. I run through the remaining tributes in my head. There won't be a victor from Three, Six, or Nine. From Two and Seven, both tributes are alive, along with the girls from Five, Eight, Eleven and Twelve. Lastly, there is me and the boys from One and Four. I'm guessing that the girls, save Scarlett and Jazmine will be easy to kill, along with the twelve year old from Four. The careers, Scarlett and Jazmine will be more difficult, but they may just take each other out. Kicking Lacey's body aside, I leave the scene and make my way for the home of Phan Reska.

James Rivers' POV

I'm lucky that I spent last night in District Five, since I'm so close to Four. I had been avoiding it the past few days, in fear that it would bring back guilt and memories of Crystal. But I'm sure that my house will have medicine for my leg. If I have any chance at survival, I will have to go home.

Due to the short travel distance, I get to District Four in a little less than an hour. My home is near the town Centre, so I make my way through the marshes and slums until I arrive in the suburbs. I walk my English teachers house, which I recognize because my friends and I used to sneak over there late at night and throw eggs at her door. My parents never found out, even though it was their eggs that I stole. But Crystal found out the very next morning, but decided that she wouldn't tattle on me. At the time, I hadn't thought to thank her and now it is too late.

When I arrive at our cozy cottage, I take out my key and insert it into the keyhole. It turns with a click and the door creaks open. When I enter my home, I notice that the inside is much like the other buildings, empty and blank. Except there was one difference. Inside one of the rooms is a small white table with a miniature backpack with my name on it, sitting in the middle. Without thinking, I rush forward and reach out my hand to grab it, when suddenly, a small hand reaches out and grabs mine. I look up to find a thirteen year old girl with long curly blond hair and brilliant blue eyes. Crystal. How is she live though.

"James..." she whispers.

"Crystal! You're alive!" I rush forward and hug her. She returns the embrace and holds me. After a few minutes of hugging, we break apart and everything seems perfect. But then Crystal asks me a chilling question.

"Why did you do it?"

"Do what?" I ask, frightened.

"Why did you kill me?"

"I- I didn't! You're still here!" What's going on?

"James, you don't understand. I am dead and it is all your fault," she says in a chillingly calm voice.

"Please! Stop!" I call out to her.

"I need to get my revenge, murderer."

No, this isn't happening! But it is as I watch my sister transform into a screaming skeleton.

She wheezes in a raspy voice, "You...will... DIE!"

She charges at me as she transforms again into a grim reaper, her scythe raised in the air. This is the last image I see before the cannon booms.
