Jazmine Vierra's POV

The end is near, only ten tributes left, including me. Ever since we got our keys from the Gamemakers, the two of us have wandered in the general direction of District Two, to find Scarlett's house. I'm not really sure why I decided to go to her house first, but I really don't care. District Two really is quite impressive. I am amazed at the favoritism of the career districts from the capital. Instead of overgrown dirt paths, the streets are paved with neat cobblestones. The buildings aren't run down or crooked and there isn't the depressing atmosphere. But Seven is home to me and I wouldn't have it any other way. Well, it would be better in the Victor's village. I can already imagine how my new home will look like once I've won these games.

When we finish trudging through the wealthy suburbs of Two, we finally arrive in the outskirts, where there are a few run down shacks, but not as many as there are in Seven.

"You live here?" I ask, disgusted by the wreck of a neighborhood.

"Is there a problem with that?" She questions in defence.

"Fair enough."

She pulls out her key when we arrive at a shack that has boarded up windows and rotting wood. The only secure part is the golden door with the Capital Seal on it.

"They got it pretty good. Except for the door. The door's definitely off," Scarlett jokes. I assumed that.

She shoves the key into the golden doorknob and twists. The door easily opens and we both step inside.

"What do you think you'll get?" I ask her.

"I have no idea. Some food would be nice. Or some water," she says blankly.

As we enter, I notice that the outside is just as rustic as the inside, but also like the other buildings. The house is empty, save for a few planks of wood, resembling a table. On the table is a large box with Scarlett's name on it. But it seems way too good to be true.

"Wait. This seems too easy," Scarlett warns as I begin to walk towards the table. Leave it to her to be the paranoid one.

Just as I am reaching for the pack, I notice two new figures in the room. Jumping back in surprise, I pull out my axe and grasp it in both of my hands. I take a closer looka t the newcomers and realize that they aren't tributes. I don't even know who they are. But Scarlett seems to.

"No. Not you two," Scarlett cries.

The two teenagers stand in the middle of the room, between us and the table. The boy has shaggy dirty blond hair and a sneer on his face and he is holding the hand of a girl, who looks to be about his age. She has long black hair with a slight curl and perfect features.

"Who are they?" I ask, ready to kill them.

"Topaz, my EX boyfriend and the girl he cheated on me with, Elizabeth," Scarlett whispers. I can imagine the rage burning through her at these two. But I won't let her kill them. It's been days since I have murdered, and these mutts will be my chance to kill again. I take my axe and swing with all of my might at Topaz's head.

"Not so fast, killer. Only Scarlett can kill us. Sorry to spoil your killing spree," Elizabeth sneers, her girly voice dripping with sarcasm.

"What do you want? To rub your relationship in my face?" Scarlett screams at them. Funny, I didn't see her as the romantic type. Well, some people are full of surprises.

"Oh wow, you make us seem so cruel," Elizabeth taunts.

"Listen Scarlett, I don't love you. I never did. Elizabeth has always been a better girlfriend. You're a loser. An utter loser," Topaz sneers. Scarlett is practically trembling with rage.

"My boyfriend is right. You are a loser. Back at home, nobody will care when you die. Mace is the favorite. In fact, no one even noticed you. They thought that you were as good as dead. Just like your sister," Elizabeth says.

That struck a nerve. Scarlett screams in anger and her words I can barely understand her.

"How DARE you bring my sister into this?! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU BOTH!" She cries. In her rage she pulls out an arrow, not even bothering to load it into her bow. Still screaming like a banshee, she lunges towards Elizabeth and stabs her in the chest with her arrow. When she is dead, Scarlett moves onto Topaz, picking up my small axe from the ground and whacks him on the head. She kicks the two to the side and grabs her package, storming out of the house. I am shocked, which is saying something, since I'm not easily surprised. I didn't think she was that vicious. I must have been underestimating her.

I follow her out to find her sitting on the ground, silently crying. Her package has been tossed to the side so I open it. I don't bother comforting her, it's not my strong point.

Inside her pack, I find a small feast, containing a small roast chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, and four brownies. Also, there is a large jug of water, about two litres. When she is finished with her sobbing, the two of us feast in silence.

Athena May's POV

After hours of travelling through rough terrain, the two of us manage to arrive at District Twelve in one piece. Heaven lives in a small, but cute cottage right along the marketplace square. Quickly, she pulls out her key and we both enter the house. As we expected, it's basically just a blank room, but there is a table where a small backpack sits, which is just the perfect size for medicine. She quickly makes a dash for it, but falters when she notices a boy next to her.

"James?" she whispers.

"Heaven! It's you! I never thought I'd see you again," the boy cries in joy. The two of them run towards eachother and hug.

"James, I tried to tell you this at the goodbyes. I love you, James," Heaven whispers, tears of joy pouring down her face.

"I love you too."

"Aww how sweet. A shame that your young love is about to DIE!" a girl who I recognize as Jazmine leaps out from nowhere. She takes out her axe and buries it in James's head.

"JAMES, NO!" Heaven cries out, crumpling to the ground next to James. As Jazmine runs towards her, about to finish them off, I take my knife and stab her in the stomach. But instead of a cannon going off, her image flickers and dissapperates. I love over to Heaven to see that the same thing has happened to James. They weren't real, they were mutts, or holograms.

"Heaven, it's okay. They weren't real. James is alive back in Twelve," I reassure her.

Her crying ceases and we open up the pack. Sure enough, there is a small canister, containing medicine for her arm. We spread the cream on her cut and re wrap it with the bandage.

Assuming that Heaven wants to get out of twelve, we head to the west. It's been hard to understand Heaven, for she hasn't spoken a word since the incident. I really hope she gets better though.

When we arrive in District Seven, I lay out our stuff and we settle down for the night. But not long after I fall asleep, laving Heaven to keep watch, I wake, hearing a commotion.

BOOM!

I sit up to find Heaven laying on the ground, dead. Her killer stands above her with a mad glint in his. Alex Trent, the boy from Ten, is standing next to her, his sickle stained with blood.

"You killed her! Why did you kill her?!" I scream as he runs forward with his weapon, trying to kill me like he killed Heaven. But I am faster than him. I slide past him and launch onto his back. He tries to thrash me off, but I hold on for dear life. Finally, I manage to wrap both of my hands around his neck and twist. A sickening crack fills my ears and I hear a cannon in the distance. I hop off of Alex's dead body and quickly gather all of my stuff. I guess this is who I've become, a killer. My best friend is dead and I killed her killer. I know that I will never come to terms with today.
