Amegakure

The fighting between the KRM and the ninja of Amegakure was fierce. There were kunai, punches, kicks, and jutsu flying everywhere. Then suddenly large animal summons with Rinnegan eyes started to tear through the KRM forces. The Animal Path Pain could be seen farther back from the battle. Kakashi burst from the ground behind the Animal Path.

"Careless, or overconfident? You normally have all six of you together." Kakashi says as he quickly stabs with a kunai that has an explosive tag on it.

Kakashi was suddenly pulled away by an unseen force that hurled him backwards. He looked behind and saw Deva path.

"Ah, there you were," Kakashi says as he reorients himself to attack Deva Path.

Kakashi comes in with kick that Deva Path blocks, Kakashi flips up and over Deva and tries a sweep kick to knock him off his feet. Deva jumps over the sweep kick as Kakashi flicks the kunai at him. Deva twists his body out of the way and Kakashi jumps backwards to create some distance. He steals a glance over at Animal Path to see it enveloped by Anko's snakes. The snakes disperse leaving the Animal Path a lifeless husk. The snakes had destroyed all the chakra stubs that let the body be controlled.

"It appears dispersing the Paths were a mistake. You all seem less fearful, more organized… less incapacitated by pain. I do not understand."

"We don't expect you to understand. We have overcome our pain when a chance for salvation and hope was presented.'

"By the ones in the black cloaks? They are no salvation, just another form of pain."

"At the moment they look a lot more inviting than you all."

Elsewhere in Amegakure

Konan was fighting multiple KRM ninjas, many of them Anbu. They were unable to get much damage through to her because of the Preta Path Pain that was constantly shielding her and himself with his ninjutsu absorption. The Anbu were about ready to break when suddenly blasts of wind buffeted the Preta Path, and then several lances struck through it, impaling it upon the ground. The spears pinned its head and limbs. Konan whirled around in alarm as the Anbu also stopped their attack to see the new arrival.

Xaldin was atop a small building with his wind dragon and it sent its beam out at Konan. She started to dodge only to get walloped by keyblade in her torso which drove the wind out of her. The beam then caught her and blasted her back, as she slid in the dirt. She struggled to rise as Xaldin quickly flew over to her and then stomped her face into the ground. He did this repeatedly as his lances pinned her limbs in place by impaling them in the ground. Finally, she lost consciousness.

Roxas looked on with a look of horror. He wasn't used to this brutality. He knew Xaldin could enjoy his psychological manipulations but…

"Stop standing around gaping, Roxas. We have work to do," Xaldin said with an air of annoyance.

The Anbu that had been in the area hesitantly withdrew at seeing their enemy promptly defeated. Xaldin withdrew his spears from Konan and dragged her over to where the Preta path could see.

"I have this woman you see. I know the main one must care deeply about her. If he wishes to see her, he will have to come to this location. I assume you are all connected in some way, so the message will carry. If you're not… well, I'll just kill you both and move on to another plan."

At this point some Amegakure ninjas attack. Xaldin and Roxas fend them off, but Xaldin notices something interesting. Roxas was bleeding. Roxas dabbed at the unusual feeling of his cut and was perplexed.

"Do you know what this is about, Xaldin?" Roxas inquired. "It has happened before too, but I thought it was a fluke."

"I suspect it has something to do with how this world is governed by different rules. It is trying to compensate for our unique existence. It would be something to investigate further. It could have its uses."

Amegakure

Pain's eyes suddenly widen as he disengages from Kakashi and other KRM forces. Konan is in trouble! He also had 2 Paths incapacitated. He had severely underestimated the strength of his enemy. He quickly orders Amegakure ninjas to keep Kakashi and the others occupied. He makes his getaway and gets the Asura Path Pain to come with him to Konan's location. He would not allow Konan to die.
