Elsa gasped as light flooded her eyes. She squinted and buried her face into Jack's body, shielding her eyes from the pain.
The world she was from was gone only to be replaced by white. There was nothing.
The cold air pressed against Elsa, trying to invade her body. She squirmed, trying to get away. Jack reached up and placed his hand on her back, calming her nerves. Elsa concentrated on the warmth from Jack, trying to counteract the cold.
'Welcome to the Pole,' Jack announced and Elsa lifted her head. The white was gone. Snow covered mountains surrounded them with a magnificent structure built into the mountain.
'Wow,' Elsa breathed, completely awestruck by the majestic scene. The snow glinted in the sunlight creating a magical aura that, combined with the majestic building, was enough to render anyone speechless.
This place feels magical, Elsa thought. I wonder who created such a place. Elsa could feel the magic woven into the fabric of this world. It felt like it was just a touch away.
'Jack,' Elsa breathed. 'What is this place?'
Jack grinned. 'You haven't seen anything yet.'
Jack landed on the snow covered ground. Elsa climbed off his back, detaching her arms from his neck. She glanced around in awe at this majestic place. A rusty looking sleigh stood in the courtyard, surrounded by Yetis who appeared to be fixing it.
Jack strutted over to one of the majestic beasts, greeting him by playfully slapping his fury shoulder. Elsa smiled and laughed when the Yeti jumped and wacked at Jack who flew backwards to avoid the blow.
Jack glanced at Elsa and caught her laughing. He grinned at her before returning his gaze to the Yeti. Taking the death glare staring back at him as his cue to leave, Jack took Elsa's hand and led her into the compound, excited to show her around.
He pushed the doors open and stopped suddenly. Jack stared incredulously at the sight before him. Elves ran around frantically, the bells on their hats jingling non-stop. Wrapping paper littered the ground among scattered ribbon. Broken toys covered every available surface. Elsa bent down and picked up a curious object. A wooden doll wearing a simple red dress, missing one eye, her left arm and her right leg, presumably painted to look like she had shoes on.
Elsa extended the doll to Jack. Sadness mixed with fear filled her. She was certain things weren't meant to look like this. Whatever, or whoever, did this must've been extremely powerful. At the thought, a small layer of frost began to cover the doll.
'Who did this?' she asked fearfully.
Jack turned to look at Elsa, at a loss for words. He took the frost covered doll from her, reading the fear that was clear in her eyes.
'Control it,' he whispered.
Elsa gulped and nodded. She tried to focus on something else. Anything else. Anna popped into her mind but Elsa quickly pushed her away. She couldn't think of Anna without being sad.
Love will thaw. That's what Anna had said. What did Elsa love? She turned her gaze to settle on Jack. He'd moved away from her, amongst the array of frantic elves. She did love Jack, she realised. But only like a friend, she told herself although her aching heart said otherwise. For now he'd have to do.
Elsa picked her way after him, careful not to tread on anything, or anyone. Elves skittered about, almost tripping her occasionally.
Jack reached the other side of the room. Who had done this? He needed to know. He needed to find North. Jack took off, flying all around, looking in every available room. There was no sign of him.
'North?' he called hoping for an answer.
'Jack?' came a muffled Russian accented reply.
Overcome with relief, Jack followed the sound to the globe. He stopped short at the horror that met him.
The glob was smashed to pieces, different continents lay at every corner of the room. Jack flew around, looking for North.
Soon enough he found him, pinned to the ground under Australia, his feet wiggling frantically as he tried to get free.
'Hold on,' Jack said, gripping an edge of the continent. He tried to lift it but he couldn't get it off the ground. Abandoning North for a few moments, he flew to Elsa.
'Come with me,' he said.
Elsa nodded and attached herself to his back. She was soon deposited on the ground in front of North.
'Help me lift it?' Jack asked.
'Of course,' Elsa replied. Sliding her hands under one side of the continent, Elsa helped Jack lift the piece off the strange man underneath. After a struggle, Elsa and Jack had freed the stranger.
The man stumbled to his feet. Elsa studied the stranger. He was dressed in red and had a plump, round belly. His face was trimmed with a white beard and his eyes seemed to have a twinkle in them.
Elsa gasped. Santa Claus. He was standing right in front of her. She almost couldn't believe it.
Jack rushed to Santa's side, asking him if he was alright, checking him for wounds. He replied in a thick Russian accent that Elsa thought suited his appearance perfectly.
'Oh, Jack,' Santa said. 'You came just in time. Any longer and I wouldn't have made it.'
'North,' Jack replied. 'Who did this?'
North glanced at Elsa, assessing if it was safe to trust the strange woman. She glanced at Jack, indicating that she knew him. North decided she was trustworthy. He faced Jack, looking him square in the eyes.
'Pitch is back.'
