CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: Success
It was the day of the championship decider. Both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw had won their other two matches, meaning whoever won the game between the two of them would lift the Quidditch Cup. Harry and Hermione had taken their places in the stand early with Neville taking a seat by them. "Are you going to be cheering for Ravenclaw?" Harry asked him teasingly.
Neville shrugged. "My son plays for Gryffindor, my daughter plays for Ravenclaw. Either way, the Longbottoms win." He paused, considering this. "Or either way we loseā¦"
His musings were interrupted by the two teams flying out onto the pitch to a round of applause from the supporters. The Gryffindor team was unchanged from the previous two games, meaning James, Albus, Lily and Martin were all in their usual positions. Emily was lining up against them as one of the Ravenclaw Chasers.
The game started and it quickly became clear it was going to be the closest fought game of the season. Harry hadn't seen Ravenclaw's first two matches. Their captain from the previous two years, Kamal Salis, had left the school so one of the other Chasers, Malcolm French, was the new captain, with a younger boy, Trevor Eisenhardt from Lily and Hugo's year, taking the spare spot. The two of them and Emily were proving to be as good as Lily, Angela and Natalie and soon the goals started piling up.
Harry noticed James knocking a bludger in Emily's direction and smiled. He remembered a time when James had been nervous around her but apparently the fact that they were now going out meant he had no trouble putting her off her game.
"Looks like it's all down to the snitch again,"Hermione commented.
Harry smiled at her. "You've picked the game up well."
"It's quite simple when you think about it. I've been reading your books while you've been out."
"Same old Hermione."
"Guess some things are never going to change."
Albus had reached the same conclusion. His opposite number, Li Corner, was looking around, trying to pick out the snitch. Martin aimed a bludger at him and he dodged out of the way. But in that moment he was distracted, Albus caught sight of the snitch, high and to his left. He shot towards it. Li picked out his target and began moving to intercept but Albus had a head start on him. He reached out and grasped the snitch in his hand.
The Gryffindor crowd went wild.
The celebrations continued well into the early hours. Harry and Hermione had briefly dropped into the Gryffindor common room to congratulate the children before many of the adult Gryffindor supporters had retired to Hogsmeade and the Three Broomsticks for a long celebratory drinking session.
It was just gone midnight when Harry and Hermione finally arrived home. They supported each other, slightly the worse for wear after their evening. "I enjoyed that," Hermione said.
"I could tell,"Harry agreed.
Hermione punched his arm. "You're supposed to say that you enjoyed it too."
"Oh. Well I did."
Hermione turned him to face her and kissed him, softly at first but then with a growing passion. She pulled away and looked at him. "I'm ready,"she said quietly.
Harry felt his heart quicken, sensing what she was saying but not quite believing it. "Are you sure?"
Hermione nodded. "I wish I could remember falling in love with you the first time. But I know that it's happened again. I love you, Harry. And I want you to make love to me."
They fell into each other's arms, kissing wildly, not holding back in their desire to explore each other's bodies. Then Harry carried her upstairs.
