Thank you for the follow and the reviews! Even if most of them did seem more interested in asking me more for more X-Men movie fictions (see my profile for more on that one).
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO: Back to Normality
Harry, Ron, Neville and Luna stood in the corner of the room. There was no reason for them to be there and in truth they probably had no right to be there but all of them wanted to see it through to the end.
Manoharan gave a sceptical look at Zacharias. "Are you sure you can trust this person?"
"Not for a second,"Harry replied. "But scare him enough and he'll do the right thing."
"I've been keeping a close eye on him, Madame Manoharan,"Neville offered. "He looks like he's doing it right."
"And if he does it wrong, then it'll probably blow up and kill him,"Luna suggested helpfully.
Ron grinned. "Yeah, or turn him into a toad."
Zacharias looked increasingly nervous as he handed Manoharan the potion. "That's the right one. I promise."
"It had better be,"Harry replied. "Because it's the only thing keeping you from sharing Lockhart's cell. Either way, it's going to be the last time you're allowed in this hospital."
Manoharan turned to Harriet, who was sitting up in bed watching the goings on. "Are you sure you agree to this, Miss Kenwood?"
Harriet nodded. "If it'll make me better, then certainly."
Manoharan gave her the potion to drink, then waved her hand in a complex series of movements too fast for Harry to recall. "Restituo!"
Harriet blinked, her features clearing. "I remember everything." She suddenly seemed to take in the group standing nearby. "Harry Potter! Lockhart…"
"It's okay, Miss Kenwood,"Harry reassured her. "We know all about Lockhart. In fact, it was through him that we learned the spell that you used to cure him."
Harriet smiled. "It worked, the treatment worked! With it we can help dozens of badly obliviated patients."
"Yes,"Harry agreed. "That's the plan."
Hermione was in the kitchen when Harry arrived home. She looked at him nervously. "Well?"
"It worked,"Harry confirmed. "Harriet Kenwood is back to normal. And she's performed the treatment on Imelda Creevey. I thought I saw Dennis get excited back when we were at school but he's even more excited now."
"Yes, I suppose he would be."
"Which just begs one question. When are you going to undergo the process?"
Hermione bit her lips nervously. "Harry, when I first saw you…when I remember first seeing you that is, the first time for me, I was a mess. I didn't know what my life was, what I was meant to do. But now… now, I've got you, I've got a relationship with my children…I don't want to risk losing all that again. Can't we go on the way we are now?"
"We could,"Harry agreed. "And you're right, you've gained a lot since the memory wipe. But there's still so much you're missing, so many magical moments. Holding Rose and Hugo for the first time, the moment that you, Ron and I became friends, riding a hippogriff together…I want to give them back to you."
Hermione hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
They were in a treatment room at St. Mungo's. Aside from Harry and Hermione, the only people present were Harriet and Manoharan. Manoharan directed Hermione to drink the potion then stepped back and gestured for Harriet to commence.
Harriet waved her arms in the correct manner. "Restituo!"
Harry saw Hermione's eyes glow for a moment. She froze, staring blankly ahead. He cautiously approached her. "Hermione, are you all right? Do you remember anything?"
Hermione turned to him, looking him straight in the eye. "Has anyone seen a toad?"she asked slowly. "Neville's lost one."
The words were familiar but it took Harry a moment to place them. It was the first thing she'd ever said to him, in a compartment on the Hogwarts Express, over thirty years previous. She remembered.
"You're Harry Potter,"Hermione continued, the memories coming easier now. "I know all about you, of course – I got a few extra books for background reading."
Harry smiled. "Oculus reparo?"he prompted.
Hermione nodded, smiling back. "Oculus reparo."
