(ELLIE'S POV)

It felt so strange.
It was if I was just floating in thin air, my body as light as a feather.
And even though I couldn't feel it, I knew the pain was there; I just couldn't think why...
I wracked my brain, in the hope of finding a reason for it all.

And then it clicked.

The hooded figure, knife in one hand, gun in the other, blood dripping off the blade.
I let a single teardrop fall, dreading remembering what had happened next.
My eyelids fluttered, before finally opening; though it was only a small amount at first.

The light seeped through the cracks, making me squint as I tried to blink it out. Eventually, my eyes became accustomed to the light, and I was able to open them - almost fully.
I just stared straight ahead, my body numb and uncomfortable.
I groaned in discomfort, as pain shot through my stomach; and that's when I saw her.

Sam. Her mousey-brown hair, curved figure and hazel eyes.
Yet she still had that ex-army look about her...

Slowly, I turned my head towards her, as she took my hand and checked the monitors next to the bed.
"Hey..." She smiled, her voice soft and comforting; I couldn't help but smile back at her. "Why is it always you who ends up getting hurt?!" She laughed, as I rolled my eyes and continued to smile a weak smile.
"How are you feeling?" Sam asked, still holding my hand.
I smiled slightly, "numb..." I croaked. "I have a headache, but that's about it..."
Sam smiled back. "Well, your headache is probably from all of the painkillers and drugs that are making you feel numb... Do you remember what happened?" She asked; more seriously this time.
I thought for a moment before answering.
"Not really..." I sighed.
"What's the last thing you remember?" She continued to infer.
"There was a man... I think..." I sighed, shaking my head slightly. "I don't know..."
Sam nodded. "That's fine!" She smiled mildly. "I would say you've just got a concussion, so try not to worry too much about it..." She paused for a second, before continuing, "but it is best to let you work out for yourself what happened - instead of us filling in the details for you."
I nodded in agreement, still slightly confused as to why I was lying in a hospital bed.

Having finished checking me over, Sam turned to walk away; though she stopped mid-way, turning back towards me.
She appeared to have some sort of idea...

"How long do you think you can stay awake for?" She asked, curiously.
"20 minutes probably, at the most anyway..." I croaked.
"You remember your mentor, right? Dr Kent... Tom."
I nodded, now even more confused - and tired - than before.
"Well, the one thing that I can tell you is that he found you; and brought you here. And he's been pretty keen to make sure that you're alright! So do you mind if he comes up now?"
I laughed weakly, "yeah... Why not?!"
She turned to a nurse and smiled, "can you page Dr Kent in the ED please?"
The young nurse nodded and walked out of the room; once again leaving Sam and I alone.

"I've missed you…" she smiled - that sweet smile that I remembered so clearly from what seemed like an eternity ago.

I only had the faintest idea of what had happened, but I felt somewhat safer under the care of a friend.

Some things never change…

Hello there! Yeah, it's me! Did you miss me? Nope, didn't think so...
Anyway I think I should apologise for not uploading for a while. And when I say 'a while' I mean since June 28th last year... Oopsy... I've been trying to make myself write more and upload often, but my audience seemed to die down to about 1 person, so I didn't really see much point to be honest! Also, I had lots of performing during the last 2 Christmas', Summers, Winters, Springs and Autumns, and then tests, residentials and new schools to worry about... But I decided to post what I'd already written and hope that there was still someone out there who might read it...
So basically, sorry that it's so short, and that its taken so long to upload, but hopefully I might start uploading more frequently again!
