Leo Valdez P.O.V.
"Aahhhh! Stop! Stop, stop, stop! Percy, STOP!" I scream but to no avail.
Percy won't let me go.
I finally get the chance to swing at Percy and I don't let the moment slip away. I hit him in the side of the head with my fist so hard, his children are going to have headaches.
But, my moment of hope did not last.
He swings back at me harder, hitting me square in the head. For a moment, I was thinking I was dead. Maybe unconscious? No, fading in and out of consciousness would be correct. The next thing I know, I have a killer headache and I'm tied to a tree.
"Percy!" I scream. No one's around as far as I can see. Why the heck did he leave me out here to die like this? Not cool!
"Can anyone hear me?" I shout, hoping someone was still out here for the capture-the-flag game. "Someone!"
Wait a second, why don't I just burn the ropes off? I look down and realize that I'm not tied down with ropes, but chains... Where did Percy get chains?
I would try burning the ropes off, but I would also undoubtedly burn down the tree, which could result in the burning of the woods. Wouldn't want to be accused of burning down Camp Half-Blood, now would I?
Great. So I'm stuck here. My life rocks.
Then, I hear the movement from somewhere in front of me. I can't see anything through the bushes that block my vision, but I can hear the heavy footsteps easily.
"Hey!" I shout for their attention. "Over here!"
I hear the footsteps shorten in pace and shuffle closer. The bush rattles and a moment later I see, through the darkness of the night, a head poke through.
"Clarisse!" I sigh in relief. "Thank gods you're still here."
She smirks as the rest of her body becomes visible through the shrubbery. "Ha! How'd you get yourself into this, Valdez?"
"It wasn't my fault this time!" Yes, it's happened before. Long story. Don't ask. "It was Percy! The eidolon made him do this! Where is he?"
"Last I saw him, Jason attacked you in the Mess Hall and he pried Jason off of you. Then you all just left."
"Cool story bro, now can you please just help me with these chains already?"
"Alright, alright. No need to be so assertive."
She unhooks her spear from her belt and it crackles to life.
"Wait," I shout urgently, "It's going to-!"
With that, she jabs the spear at my chains. Electricity courses through my body, which feels like it's on fire- a feeling I never thought I'd have to witness. Only a second later, my head lolls, and I fall asleep.
Percy Jackson P.O.V.
Oh, gods. I did it again.
I struggle against the rope tied around my torso, holding my arms down. My ankles are bound together with more rope. A gag is wrapped tightly around my head, almost making me choke. A blindfold covers my vision.
"What are we going to do with him?" Travis asks.
"I don't know," Connor replies. They both pace opposite directions. "We need to find Chiron."
I try to tell them that I'm fine, but the only noise I make is that of something muffled and not at all comprehendible.
"Should we take the gag off him?" Connor asks.
"No!" Travis spins around and shouts. "He'll probably try to bite you again!"
Connor sighs. "How long has Chiron been gone now?"
"It's been a while. He should've been back by now. Do you think something could've happened?"
"I don't know. I guess we just have to keep waiting."
Just then, heavy, clomping footsteps approach from the Big House porch.
"Chiron!" Travis yells. "What happened? Did you find Nico?"
Chiron sighs. "We found him, but he's been kidnapped, along with Jason."
"By who?" The Stolls ask in unison.
"They were too fast. I didn't see their faces." A brief silence, then he changes subjects. "I see you've found Percy."
I wiggle and try to shout for help, but again, only a muffled sound.
"We weren't sure what to do with him. He was attacking some campers, so we just thought we should do something."
"It was brave of you to do anything at all. You two should go help the others. They could use some assistance at Zeus's Fist."
The Stolls leave without saying another word. I hear Chiron clop over to me, and he first takes off the blindfold. I look up at him to see his pained expression, probably the same as mine.
"I'm sorry, Percy." He says simply, almost without emotion. Then, he holds a hand to my head and presses his fingers against my temple. The world turns colors, spins, and turns upside down.
I wish I could say it was a peaceful, dreamless sleep, but that would be a lie.
I dreamt I was in a large, elegant room. It looks like a hotel room fit for a king.
Then I notice Jason and Nico. Jason paces the room, studying everything, probably in search of any possible exit. Nico lays on one of the two giant beds, unable to sleep, staring up at the ceiling. I want to shout out to them, but of course, it's only a dream.
"What about shadow-traveling?" Jason asks, turning to Nico.
Nico sighs. "I already tried. I just ran into the freaking wall."
"I can't fly either. Our powers don't work here."
"No crap, Sherlock." Nico stands and walks to fridge. He swings the door open and pulls out a bottle of water.
"What are we going to do? The others don't know we're here." Jason starts pacing again.
"But they know we're here. You said we were with Chiron when we were abducted, so he must know we're missing. They'll find us, I'm sure."
Suddenly, the giant entry door swings open. "Hey, boys."
Lamia.
"The boss told me to come get one of you for your... treatment." She smiles at the last word.
Nico and Jason look at each other.
"How about you, good-looking?" She winks at Jason. Two Cyclopes step through the doorway and seize Jason by the arms.
"No!" Jason shouts, trying to fight the hands that grip him.
"Jason!" Nico yells and begins running forward, but Lamia snaps her fingers and Nico falls to his knees, gripping his head.
"You have no power here, you idiotic son of Hades! I can do whatever I want to you." She turns and walks behind the Cyclopes that hold Jason. Before closing the door behind her, she turns to Nico and says, "It would be wise of you to fear me."
Just as the door closes, Nico falls as the pain stops. He gasps short breaths, inhaling and exhaling rapidly. I watch as a single tear falls from his eye.
Then, the vision disappears. I wake and gasp as I do so. I sit bolt upright, noticing my surroundings immediately.
I'm in a cell. Since when did Camp Half-Blood even get these?
I stand and walk to the cell bars. I grip them and peer through to the hall. A camper stands only ten feet away, pacing up and down the corridor.
"Where am I?" I ask the boy.
He turns on his heels and faces me. "Uh, I'm sorry. I don't know if I'm supposed to talk to the prisoners."
"Bryce?" I recognize the boy. A child of Demeter, about thirteen years old. "It's me, Percy. You're my friend, you can talk to me."
He nervously pushes his glasses up with his pointer finger. "Um, okay." He steps closer to my cell door, but not close enough for me to reach him. "What do you want to know?"
"Dude, I just want to know why I'm here. And where exactly is 'here'?"
"Well, we're under Camp. These jails were built after the Titan War, incase of any emergencies... like this, I guess."
"And why am I here? Chiron knows he can trust me."
"Uh, yeah, you kinda, um, hurt some campers. You even chained Leo to a tree."
"I did what?! Where is Leo now? Is he okay?"
"He's breathing. He was in the infirmary, last I knew. Clarisse found him in the woods last night. She accidentally electrocuted him with her spear trying to break the chains. We ended up having to cut the tree down. Those were some strong chains, man. Where'd you even get them?"
"I don't know. I don't remember doing any of that."
"Well, he was in pretty bad shape after we finally got him unchained. I don't think he's woken up yet."
Great. Lately, all I seem to do is hurt my friends. I wonder where Annabeth is?
Annabeth Chase P.O.V.
"Help!" I scream at the top of my lungs.
"I need help! Anyone!"
I race through the woods with Piper's injured body in my arms. Her head lolls as the blood pours from her wrists.
I cut them. I'm the one who did it.
I don't know what I'd do if Piper died.
If I was the reason she passed.
"Help me! Please help me!" I cry and I pray to every god I can think of- Greek or Roman.
I finally jump from the foliage of the dense woods, bursting into the strawberry fields. I immediately find three teenagers, all bigger than me, picking strawberries. They all look up at me with wide eyes. In the morning sunlight, the all look tired, but I see the adrenaline pass through their bodies as the stand.
"Help me!" I scream. They each run forward, grabbing Piper into arms, while the only girl of the group steps forward to help me. I put an arm around her shoulder, about to pass out of exhaustion.
"What happened?" The girl asks me.
I breathe heavily, trying to catch my breath. "I... I need to find... Chiron."
She helps me to the Big House after making sure Piper gets to the infirmary alright. The children of Apollo seem to have everything under control. So I head inside the building to speak with Chiron.
"Chiron!" I shout, but no one answers. "Anyone here?"
"Chiron's not here," Clarisse answers in a doorframe to my left. "No one is. Chiron's been out almost all night. He freaked after Nico and Jason were kidnapped right off his back, literally. He was even more upset after he returned to find Percy tied up and gagged. He finally left after everyone helped get Leo untied from the tree. I'm not sure if he went to go look for the rest of you or what. He could be anywhere. No one knows."
"Perfect." I mutter. Chiron's gone. Where could that centaur have gone?
Then, I remember something else. Something more important to me than anything else, and had somehow slipped my mind.
"Where's Percy?"
"He's in the cells." She answers as if I'm supposed to understand. "I'll bring you there, but I should tell you: I'm supposed to lock you up in there too."
"What? Why?"
"You've been running around all crazy trying to kill people. We were told to lock up all of you."
"So, why haven't you already taken me?"
"I'm not going to lock you up."
"...What?"
"I'm not locking you up. I think you're the only one who can figure this out. You were there when it all happened, you're more likely to know how to end it."
"But I have no idea how to put an end to this."
"So you're saying you want me to lock you up?"
"No! Sorry, I just don't know where to start."
"Well, I'm not locking up any of you. I'll help you get Percy out... for a price."
"Oh, gods. What is it?"
She just shrugs. "I don't know yet. I'll tell you when an idea comes to mind."
"Alright. It's a deal."
I know I might later regret it, but I just need Percy. I can't do this without him.
Clarisse leads me to the basement of the Big House, where we walk down a staircase I've never seen before. We enter a corridor where cells are scattered for such a far distance, it probably reaches all of the underneath of camp. We approach a cell door where a boy I recognize from the Demeter cabin watches over a young man being held in the cell.
"I've got another one," Clarisse says as she grabs the collar of my shirt. "Open the door," She tells the boy.
He does what she says and she throws me inside. I land on my knees and look back at Clarisse, shooting her a look that says What are you doing?
"You can go," She says to the boy as he locks the cell door. "I'll take over from here."
The boy nods and runs off as if relieved. Before the blink of an eye, he's out of sight.
Clarisse turns back to me, smiling. "Told you I'd help you out." She starts unlocking the cell door.
"You're a pretty good actress," I say as I stand and brush myself off.
"Annabeth?" I hear a hushed voice ask from behind me.
"Percy!" I shout as I spin around to see my beautiful boyfriend. "Thank gods you're okay!"
He yawns as he stands. He steps forward and hugs me with a big grin on his face.
Clarisse finally opens the barred door and says, "Alright, before I puke, get out of here. Find your friends and figure everything out."
"Thank you so much, Clarisse." It was kind of her to be helping us at all due to her being a child of Ares. They aren't usually the most helpful people.
"Yeah, yeah. But before you go, you should know: Jason and Nico were kidnapped. No one knows where they are. You guys need to find them."
"I know where they are," Percy speaks up. "I had a dream."
"Good," Clarisse states in a bored tone. "Now, get out of here. Figure everything out. I'll cover for you."
Percy and I nod. "Thanks again for everything," I say before running off to find my friends.
A/N
HOLY HEPHAESTUS! THE HOUSE OF HADES COMES OUT TOMORROW!
Are you guys as excited as I am? I'M FREAKING OUT!
So, I've come up with this theory: I think the line from the prophesy "An oath to keep with a final breath" refers to Nico. He made that promise to Percy that he would get the rest of the seven to the Doors of Death. I really hope he doesn't die! I'm freaking out! I LOVE HIM!
Anywho, have a good weekend and I'll post another chapter sometime soon (hopefully).
Peace out!
