"Come on Zoe, one more push for me" Nick encouraged her as she was now at the final stage before meeting her little boy.

Zoe shook her head, laying her head back down in exhaustion "I can't" She cried.

"Yes you can" Nick encouraged her "You can do it for me"

Zoe waited until the next contraction took over her body and pushed with all her might and with that, their baby was born into Nick's arms.

"Well done sweetheart" He smiled as he caught sight of his perfect son, he was so tiny which was considered for his age, but he still hadn't cried yet, causing much concern and worry for Nick. He reached for some towels and began to rub him to spark his first cry.

"Zoe?" Dixie shouted as she noticed Zoe's head fall back and her eyes close shut, "Zoe darling, can you hear me?" She continued to call as Nick tried to work on the baby.

At this point Nick began to panic, the baby still wasn't crying either.

"Nick she's bleeding out" Dixie shouted, "Jeff how many minutes?" She called into the front of the ambulance, knowing that they needed to be in the hospital right now.

"2" Jeff called back, immediately stepping on the accelerator and speeding up to get to the hospital as quick as he could.

"Right Dixie, I want you to massage him to get his blood going" Nick said as he passed his son over to Dixie's arms who still hadn't let out a single cry, "I'm going to massage Zoe to stop the bleeding" He informed her as he began to massage Zoe's stomach. His mind was doing overtime with worry and fear right now but he had to stay calm and treat the situation in a professional manor if he was to help both Zoe and his son.

2 minutes later and like Jeff had promised they finally arrived at the ED entrance. The ambulance doors immediately flew open to quickly hurry them both inside for urgent treatment.

Dixie quickly climbed out and handed the baby boy bundled in blankets straight over into Tom's arms and explained everything to him. He wasted no time in quickly running indoors followed by Charlie to give him the best care possible.

They then pulled the bed out of the ambulance and Dixie explained Zoe's current situation to Ash and Tess as they speedily rushed her inside to resus.

"Please don't let anything happen to her" Nick begged, his heart aching as he watched his wife lying helplessly on the bed. His worst nightmares were now all coming true and he was no longer allowed to help.

"She's in safe hands" Tess said, wandering over to Nick and placing her hand on his back, seeing the worry plastered across his face.

"OK Nick we've stopped the bleed" Ash called over to inform him of his wife's condition.

Nick let out a small sigh of relief, although she was still in a critical condition, he knew stopping the bleed was definitely a positive sign. Not wanting to leave Zoe's side, he trusted his staff and had to go and check on his newborn son. He quickly hurried out of resus in search for Tom and Charlie.

"How is he?" He breathlessly asked as he ran into the room where they were treating him.

"He's breathing, but we're moving him straight to Neo" Tom informed him, continuing to pump oxygen through a tube into the baby's mouth "He is really struggling, it's not looking good" He sympathetically glanced at Nick.

Nick inhaled a large gasp of air, holding his breath for a moment, trying to hold back the tears that were fighting their way through, "We can't loose him" He said, walking over to his tiny little boy and running a single finger over his body. He was barely bigger than his hand and he looked so lifeless and fragile. He knew it was just like Phoebe all over again and this was going to break Zoe.

"We will do everything that we can" Tom tried to reassure him "How is Zoe?" He asked.

"She's stable for now" Nick sighed "Page me if I'm needed here, Zoe really needs me right now" He said, backing out of the room. As much as it pained him to leave their newborn baby alone in a critical condition, his wife was the one that needed him the most right now and he had to be with her no matter what.

"Yes of course Nick, I'll stay with him for a while" Charlie said.

"Thanks Charlie" Nick said before racing back out of the room and across the ED floor to get back to resus. He couldn't believe how much his life had changed in the matter of a couple of hours. 2 hours ago, everything was just perfect. He had a beautiful wife, sleeping peacefully in his arms, 3 beautiful children and a precious little boy on the way, but that had now all changed. Both his wife and son were in critical conditions and he didn't know whether either of them would be OK or not.
