Two in a row, after the wedding, here the epilogue.

EPILOGUE

Two months after the wedding

A violent thunder exploded outside the farm, its echo resounding in the air and then fading away in a distant roar before the calm, a brief calm.

"MOMMY DAISY! DADDY ENOS!"

The bedroom's door burst open and Lucy dashed inside, jumping on the bed and slipping under the blankets.

Daisy wrapped her arms around Lucy's trembling body, "Lucy! It was just a thunder, don't worry!" She could feel the little girl's heart beating fast, so she held her closer, "You know, when I was a little girl like you I was scared because of thunders, and I usually ran to uncle Jesse and aunt Lavinia's bedroom, but then I have understood thunders can't hurt me."

Enos rolled on his back, yawning and rubbing his eyes, "What's goin' on?"

"A BIG thunder, daddy Enos! So BIG the farm was trembling!" Lucy parted from Daisy and opened her arms, giving a size to the thunder.

"Really, a thunder?"

A new violent thunder answered Enos' disbelief, and Lucy buried her face against Daisy's chest, moaning.

"Oh Lucy, don't worry! See, daddy isn't scared at all, he doesn't even hear thunders," Daisy caressed Lucy's hair and stared at Enos, a knowing smile on her face, her way to tease him because of his deep sleeping, but a sudden sense of nausea made her turning pale and her smile fading. She gave Lucy to Enos and she ran to the bathroom.

After vomiting just few gastric juices, she washed her face with fresh water and she walked to the bedroom; she didn't think nausea could be so annoying.

When she entered the room, Enos was sitting on the bed, Lucy on his lap, waiting for her, "Are you OK, Daisy?" In his voice affection and a pitch of worrisome.

Daisy smiled, "I'm OK, Enos, don't worry. It's pretty normal in my condition."

Lucy stared at Daisy and then at Enos, "Daddy Enos, is mommy Daisy ill?"

Enos scratched his nape, "No. Mommy isn't ill, Lucy… just…" he looked at Daisy asking for help.

Daisy walked to the bed and sat down, caressing Lucy's hair, "I feel fine Lucy, don't worry. I'm feeling a bit sick 'cause… well, Lucy, what do you think 'bout having a little sister… or a little brother? Mommy is goin' to have a baby."

Lucy stayed silent for a while, her wide eyes on Daisy, "Rick told me 'bout how babies are born. They grow inside mommy's belly and then they come out." Her eyes moved to Daisy's belly, "Is my little sister growing inside you? I prefer a little sister."

Daisy nodded, "Your friend Rick is right. Babies grow inside mommy's belly, and your little sister… or brother, we can't know it now… is growing inside me."

Lucy kept on staring at Daisy's belly then she looked at her face, "How did the baby enter your belly, mommy Daisy?"

Daisy smiled and looked at Enos, "Ask daddy how it happened."

Enos looked at Daisy in shock, his mouth open, "Uh… well… it's a long story, Lucy, 'bout a seed, and… OK, mommy and I are goin' to tell you this story when you'll be a bit older, OK?"

"But… I want to know it NOW! PLEASE!"

A thunder stopped Lucy's request, she forgot about the baby and she buried her face against Enos' chest.

"I'M SCARED!"

Enos sighed and cuddled up under the blankets, Lucy in his arms, "It's just a thunder, Lucy," his voice a soft whisper.

Sitting on the bed, Daisy watched Enos and Lucy, a sweet smile on her face. Before to reach them under the blankets, she looked at the bedroom, their bedroom at their farm: they were living in that farm since the previous month, when Lucy finally became their daughter.

She thought of their new life as husband and wife, and as parents… as 'daddy Enos' and 'mommy Daisy': after her adoption, Lucy kept on calling them 'Enos' and 'Daisy' for a while, as in the past (she knew them simply as 'Enos' and 'Daisy' since always), not used to call them 'mommy' and 'daddy', yet, and now she was moving from 'Enos' and 'Daisy' to 'daddy Enos' and 'mommy Daisy', a step forward to the final and simple 'daddy' and 'mommy' they were waiting for.

Daisy stirred and slipped into the bed, hugging Lucy and Enos in a wide and inclusive hug.

Six years after the wedding

"DADDY! MOMMY! HURRY UP!" Lucy walked along the path heading to Lake Chickamahony, reaching the glade and finally running to the blue surface of the lake.

"DON'T RUN, LUCY!" Enos had a deep sigh and shook his head.

Daisy grinned and looked at little Ruth who was hopping by her side, holding her hand, "We're goin' to have a great picnic, Ruth. Uncle Jesse cooked his famous apple pie."

Ruth looked at uncle Jesse and smiled, "I like your apple pie, uncle Jesse."

Uncle Jesse nodded and laughed, "Everybody likes my apple pie."

"HEY LUCY, WAIT" John, 10 year old, ran into the glad and reached Lucy on the lake's bank.

"JOHN, STOP RUNNING!" Emily rested her head on Luke's shoulder, "That boy, he's always 'round Lucy. I think he has a crush on her."

Luke circled Emily's shoulders with his arm. He loved Emily and her son, John, as if he was his own son; Luke met her 4 years before, when Emily, a young and strong widow, moved to Hazzard with his little son, falling in love with her and marrying her 2 years after. Like Daisy and Enos, also Luke was taking care of a young orphan… and of the mother of the orphan, too.

"Maybe little John is goin' to marry Lucy. You know Emily, Enos had a crush on Daisy since the third grade, but he needed a LOT of time before to succeed in marrying her," Bo laughed and circled Hanna's shoulders with his arm, winking at his new and most lasting girlfriend.

Everybody laughed, Enos&Daisy's long romance well-known not just to the Dukes but also to Emily and Hanna.

When the group reached the lake's bank, they sat down and relaxed, enjoying the spring breeze and watching John, Lucy and Ruth playing.

Lucy rested her hands on her hips and looked at John who was playing with little Ruth, "Hey John! If you reach me, I'm goin' to give you a kiss." Dressed with a checkered green shirt and a pair of shorts (Daisy Duke's style), her brown and long pigtails gently fluttering in the wind, Lucy looked amused at his friend John and then she started to run along the lake's bank.

John blushed, he ran after Lucy and he fell face down, stumbling in his own feet.

Lucy stopped and turned round, walking to John and kneeling down, "Are you OK, John?"

Bo grinned, "They recall me someone," he glanced at Enos and Daisy, "don't you think?"

Enos covered his face with his hand, "Oh my! I hope poor John isn't goin' to face what I faced with Daisy."

Daisy punched Enos' arm, "Enos Strate!"

Enos stared at her and smiled, "All's well that ends well."

She gently caressed his nape, "Oh Enos."

Uncle Jesse stood up and reached the big basket they brought with them, "Time to eat my apple pie," he turned to John, Lucy and Ruth and he called them, "CHILDREN! APPLE PIE!" He rested the apple pie on a wide cloth and he gave any child a big piece of cake.

The children finally sitting on the lake's bank, a piece of cake in their hands, also the adults started to eat their piece of cake, except Daisy.

Uncle Jesse stared at her, "Is something wrong, Daisy?"

Daisy shook her head and looked at Enos, a soft red on her cheeks, "No, I'm feeling a bit sick 'cause… well… Enos and I have an announce to do," she rested her right hand on her still flat belly and she looked down, "We're goin' to give Lucy and Ruth a brother… or a new sister."

Everybody congratulated Enos and Daisy on their growing family, while in the distance clear voices of children were approaching the glade.

Swallowing her piece of cake, Lucy leapt up and ran to the orphanage's children, Miss Smith and Clara entering the glade, and the air filled with children's laughs and shouts.

Daisy rested her head on Enos' shoulder and closed her eyes, enjoying the sun through her eyelids and inhaling Enos' scent.

Pure happiness.

So, this is the END of this story.

Thanks to everybody who followed me to this last chapter, I hope I didn't disappoint you.

I hope in the future to write other stories like this, I think this is my favorite dimension (fluff plus slice of life), after all.
