2 weeks later and Zoe was now fully back to her usual self, she had actually been discharged from the hospital the day after the birth, following a night of monitoring just to keep an eye on her condition. Every day she and Nick had been coming in and sitting by their sons incubator in neonatal. Oscar was already showing fast signs of improvement and was already weighing 3lbs; a much stronger baby compared to what he was 2 weeks ago.

Ever since meeting him, Zoe had not looked back since. Her motherly instincts were well and truly kicked in and she couldn't bare spending a moment without him; she loved him more than she could ever imagine. Every day they would sit with him, talking to him and watching him grow bigger and stronger.

Although Nick's paternity leave of 2 weeks had now officially finished, he had somehow persuaded Henry to allow him an extra week off to spend with his family. Working in the hospital however did have it's advantages and he knew he could visit him any time when he had to eventually return to work.

"Hello baby boy" Zoe softly spoke as she and Nick wandered over to his incubator. It was now their daily routine that they had gotten into of taking the kids into school and coming straight to the hospital. Usually spending all day here until their other three children needed picking up again. They tried to spend as much time with them as they could, not wanting them to feel left out or neglected now that their new brother had arrived. Although Zoe would always insist on returning back to the hospital in the evenings; she hated the thought of him being alone.

As soon as they got to the incubator, Nick would instantly be picking up the clipboard at the end and checking his hourly obs "He seems to be controlling his temperature now" He commented, as he flicked through the page.

"He's a strong little boy aren't you" Zoe cooed, watching him sleep peacefully. Very often he would be sleeping; which they considered a good thing as it gave his body time to grow. She placed her hand inside his incubator and rested it on his back as he lay sleeping on his stomaching; providing him with that warmth and protection that he needed.

"Hi, how are you both doing?" The nurse asked as she entered the room, joining them both at the side of the incubator. She was Oscar's set neonatal nurse and had grown quite close to the family over the past few weeks.

"Fine thank you" Zoe smiled, glancing up at her quickly before immediately returning her eyes back to Oscar.

"He's doing well with his temperature" Nick commented as she did his next set of obs.

"Yeah he's remaining constant temperature now" She added, writing the next reading down "How would you feel about holding him?" She suggested, smiling as she watched Zoe's face light up.

Zoe had never been able to hold her baby yet, it was only 1 week ago that she had actually been able to touch him for the first time. Right now this was like a dream come true for her, the moment she had been waiting for for the past 14 days "Really?" She gasped in shock not quite believing that this was real. She glanced her eyes over at Nick, who like her, was also excited about the moment they had been waiting for.

"Really" The nurse nodded, lifting his incubator and preparing all of his wires so that none were accidentally pulled out "If you'd like to sit down on a chair and I'll pass him over to you" She said "If you can Zoe would you also be able to unbutton your top so that he can rest against you skin" She asked "We like to call this kangaroo care and it just helps to create that bond of mother and baby"

"Course" Zoe said, sitting down in the chair and unbuttoning the first 4 buttons of her blouse without hesitation. It revealed her bra but she didn't care, she was just desperate to hold her baby.

"You ready?" The nurse asked, getting a nod of approval from Zoe as she carefully lifted Oscar out of his incubator and placing him onto Zoe's chest, adjusting the wires momentarily to assure they were all still correctly in place.

She placed one of her hands underneath Oscar so that he was held in place, as he buried his head into her chest "He's perfect" She commented, running a finger up and down his back for comfort.

"I'll leave you too it" The nurse said, giving them both some privacy with their son as she left the room.

Nick walked over and crouched down beside her chair, running his finger down Oscar's back, where Zoe's lay.

"I can't believe this is real" She said in disbelief, gently kissing her son on the top of his head.

"It's only going to get better from here" Nick assured her, placing his hand on her lap.

"I really hope so" She whispered, rocking slightly to soothe her son who was beginning to stir slightly "I just want to take him home" She said, kissing him once again.

"It won't be long now, I promise" He said, running his hand up and down her thigh comfortingly.

"Do you want to hold him?" She asked, wanting Nick to be equally apart of this special moment "Do you want to go to your daddy?" She directed her question at Oscar.

"Come on then" Nick said, swapping places with Zoe as she lifted Oscar down onto his now exposed chest, "Perfect isn't he" He commented, protectively holding him close.

"Of course" Zoe agreed "we make good looking children" She smugly replied.

"Definitely" Nick smiled, moving forward to kiss Zoe who was now crouched down beside him.

"You're an amazing dad Nick" She commented, proudly watching as he comforted Oscar by rocking him and rubbing the palm of his hand soothingly across his back.

Nick smiled turning to look at her "and you're an amazing mum" He responded "I told you we would be fine"

"and Nick Jordan never ever gets it wrong does he" Zoe smiled, leaning up to kiss the both of them once again. This is the happiest she had ever felt in the last 2 weeks and she knew from this moment that things could only get better, or at least she hoped.
