I know a few people have asked when I'm updating my other story Goodbye Daddy and I promise it will be updated within the next 2 days, I'd struggled with where to take it next but i will try to update as soon as possible just really busy with exams too. "What happened this morning then?" Nick asked conversationally as he took another sip of his coffee. They had chosen a nice quiet table in the corner of the hospitals cafe, overlooking the view of the city. He could tell that Zoe looked tired and exhausted, she had clearly had a stressful morning.
Zoe sat opposite him; one arm leaning to gently rock Oscar's carrier seat on the chair beside her and the other lifting her coffee cup as she took another sip of her drink, "Oh you know, just Maisie back to her usual self"
Nick sighed. Just when he had thought Maisie had gotten over all of this "What's she done this time?" He asked, not surprised one bit with her behavior.
"She hit Phoebe" Zoe told him, turning her attention back to the baby who was beginning to stir slightly "She was a bloody nightmare to get out of bed this morning" She added.
Nick shook his head, finishing off the remainder of his coffee "I thought she was over all of this" He sighed, slightly disappointed with his daughter.
"Yeah, so do I" Zoe replied, turning her attention back to Nick "I used the threat of telling dad though and she soon stopped after that" She chuckled lightly.
Nick laughed smugly "I'll have to try and speak to her later" He said. He knew Zoe had enough on her plate with the baby right now; they both did, and Maisie's bad behavior wasn't going to help anyone.
"You can have the joys of all of this tomorrow while I'm running this place" Zoe laughed, her eyes scanning the room; enjoying being back in her familiar setting.
"Don't get too used to it" Nick chuckled "it's still my department" He replied smugly, raising his eyebrows.
A smile tugged at Zoe's lips "Our department" She replied, smiling at him "I can't wait for a break from it all" She admitted, finishing the remainder of her coffee.
"We've only had him home 2 days" Nick tried not to laugh, this was only the beginning of it and Zoe was already exhausted. He knew how much she was itching to get back to work though - stay at home mum was just not her thing, no matter how much she loved Oscar.
"I know and it's lovely" Zoe replied.
"But?" Nick asked, sensing that she hadn't quite finished her sentence.
"But" Zoe continued, looking across at Nick, "It'd be nice to just have a break from it all" She admitted "It's bloody exhausting"
"Why don't you go out on Friday, I'll look after the kids" Nick suggested.
"No Nick" Zoe refused, shaking her head at his suggestion "i don't expect you to look after 4 kids while I'm out on the piss" She chuckled lightly.
"Drinking on a school night" Nick raised his eyebrows "As if you would" He joked "Seriously Zoe I don't mind, it'll do you good" He continued to convince her. He knew how much she loved her nights out.
"Are you sure though?" Zoe hesitated, not wanting to leave him.
"Yes of course" Nick nodded, smiling to show his acceptance. He took hold of her hand from across the table to entwine his fingers with hers, squeezing gently to give her his approval and assurance.
Zoe smiled, gripping his hand in response "Well I was thinking I might go and spend some time with my mum" She said.
"She'll like that" Nick nodded "Right, I best be getting back, the department won't run itself" He said, pulling his suit jacket back on as he smartened out his tie.
Zoe rolled her eyes, laughing at how professional he could suddenly turn in the space of a second "Oh i'm sure they're coping just fine without you" She chuckled.
"Why don't you come with me?" He suggested, standing up from the table "I know they're all dying to meet him" He said, indicating his eyes towards Oscar, who was now fast asleep once again.
"Yeah why not" Zoe agreed, pulling on her coat as Nick picked up Oscar with one arm and held her hand with the other, as they walked hand in hand down to the ED; their department.
"Zoe" Everyone called as they noticed her enter the department with Nick.
"We've missed you" Jay announced, pulling her into a massive hug as she let go of Nick's hand.
"How handsome is he?" He said, turning his attention over to Nick who stood holding the baby.
"Who Nick or the baby?" Zoe joked.
"Most definitely the baby" Jay chuckled, cooing over baby Oscar as Nick held his carrier seat for all of the staff to see.
"I still think you're handsome Mr Jordan" Zoe whispered, sparking a wink from Nick.
"Zoe" Charlie called as he approached them from behind "This is a nice surprise" He said, pulling her into a hug
"Everybody take note, this will be your new boss in over 20 years" He joked, pointing at baby Oscar as more staff began to gather round the couple.
"Hoping he follows in dad's footsteps are you?" Noel pitched in.
"No definitely mums footsteps" Zoe was quick to add, cheekily grinning at Nick as he looked at her unimpressed.
Nick raised his eyebrows at her "What unorthodox?" He teased.
Zoe rolled her eyes at Nick, trying not to laugh at his little remarks "No, an amazing, professional and hot doctor" She smugly replied.
"Very funny" Nick sarcastically chuckled.
"Oh shit" Zoe exclaimed, pulling out her ringing phone her coat pocket to see Maisie's school on the caller ID.
"What's up Zo?" Nick asked as she returned back over to them after privately answering the call.
"That was the school on the phone" She told him, sliding the phone back into her pocket.
"What's she done?" Nick sighed, expecting the worse.
"Nothing major, they didn't really say" She replied, taking Oscar's carrier seat out of Nick's grasp "I'll see you later" She said, leaning up to kiss him goodbye on the cheek.
"Do you want me to come with you?" Nick called as she began to walk away.
"No, I'm fine Nick honestly, just please don't be late home tonight" She called back, as she quickly hurried out of the hospital to go and sort this matter out.
