Just a short chapter for now, will try to update soon :)
"Thank you Mrs Roberts, I can assure you that this won't happen again" Zoe apologised once again as she stood up to shake the headmistresses hand after their long meeting in her office about Maisie's behavior, "Will it Maisie?" She asked, turning her apology over to her daughter.
"No" Maisie mumbled, shaking her head as she kept her eyes firmly locked on the ground, not wanting to make eye contact with her mum.
They quickly said their goodbyes and left the office. As it was now lunchtime, they had both come to the agreement that it was probably for the best if Zoe took Maisie home for the afternoon. Not only had she been caught smoking, but also fighting once again.
"I am so disappointed in you Maisie, you're only 13" Zoe sighed, as she drove off out of the school, keeping her eyes firmly fixed on the road.
"Well you do it all the time" Maisie replied.
"Yes and I'm a lot older than you, you're still a child" Zoe began to raise her voice slightly. She hated telling her off; she knew full well that she was just as bad as her when she was 13, but it just didn't seem right, deep down she was still her little girl and she was way too young still for any of this.
Maisie rolled her eyes, she hated being treated like this "I'm a teenager now actually" She sarcastically replied.
Zoe shook her head, ignoring her childish little comments "Where did you even get the fags from?" She asked. This was not like Maisie at all, although she had been caught fighting at school before on more than one occasion, smoking was a massive shock for Zoe and she didn't know how she would be able to tell Nick.
Maisie hesitated before replying, unsure how her mum would actually react "Your bag" She mumbled.
"What do you think your dad is going to say about all of this?" She asked.
Maisie quickly turned to look at her "No, you can't tell him" She begged. Her dad would kill her if he ever found out.
"I can't not tell him" Zoe replied "I just don't know what to do with you anymore, it's just one thing after another"
"It's none of your business what I do anyway" Maisie snapped "Just leave me alone, it's my life" She shouted, turning to look out of the window.
"And I'm your mother so it is my business" Zoe snapped. She had just quite had enough of her behavior; she only did it because she cared.
"Not my real one" Maisie shouted back in the heat of the moment.
"I'm going to pretend I never heard that" Zoe simply replied. This had really hurt her. Never had Maisie questioned her being her mum. Although she didn't give birth to her, Maisie was still her daughter no matter what and this hit her where it really hurt. She swallowed hard, trying to fight back the tears forming as she drove faster to quickly get back home.
"I'm Sorry" Maisie quickly apologised, feeling extremely guilty; she should never had said that, she knew Zoe would always be her real mum "I didn't mean to say that" She whispered, turning to look at her mum for some reaction, but she completely ignored her; not one word or glance the entire way home as they drove in silence.
