"Maisie you stay here under all circumstances, OK?" Zoe asked once again as she got her daughter comfortably set up in the staff room for the day. She was more than worried about leaving her alone after the recent events.

Maisie rolled her eyes, as she shuffled back into the sofa "Yes mum" She sighed, for the hundredth time "Just go and do your job" She told her, giving her an assuring look that she was going to be just fine without her.

Zoe nodded "If you need anything, just call me or you dad" She repeated herself, before eventually leaving the room and getting on with her job.

Maisie sighed as she left, picking up the remote and turning on the TV to find something remotely interesting to watch. She absolutely hated the long and boring days spent in the hospital whenever she was off ill. Growing up, this was all she was used to; spending hours upon hours in this staff room. It was like her second home in some aspects.

She repeatedly switched from channel to channel and still couldn't find anything half decent. She was also now starting to feel quite hungry, getting up from the sofa, she headed over to the small kitchen; searching for any kind of food that she could find. There was nothing. She contemplated going out to the vending machine across the other side of the ED. She knew her mum and dad would be fuming if they found out, but what would 2 minutes hurt anyone?

Grabbing her jacket off the sofa, she cautiously opened the staff room door, checking that nobody was about, before sneaking down the corridor. The only route she could take however was past her dad's office, so she had to be extra careful; carefully sneaking past without him noticing her.

She finally made it to the vending machine without any member of staff noticing her so far, taking out her drink as it fell to the bottom, she felt a hand on her shoulder. Of course; it was her dad.

She spun around to face him, nervous of how he was going to react "Dad, I'm so sorry" She mumbled "I was really thirsty" She admitted, holding up her drink for him to see.

Nick nodded "Straight back to the staff room then" He ordered, indicating for her to follow him.

"Do I have too" Maisie groaned "It's so boring in there" She added.

"Well that's what you getting for being ill" Nick said. He knew full well that he was faking it; he could read her like a book.

"I'll come and help you with some paper work then?" She practically begged him, not wanting to go back to the dreaded room on her own.

Nick turned to look at her, raising an eyebrow "You must be ill" He joked, causing a slight giggle from her. He had missed this. Maisie had changed so much just lately and he was starting to loose sight of his little girl that was once there; daddy at the center of her universe. "Come on then" Nick nudged her "You can come and sit with me for a while" He suggested, giving her a slight wink as she smiled her appreciation. He hoped that by agreeing to this he might be able to talk to her and finish last night's unfinished conversation they started.

Maisie followed him into his office, taking a seat on his leather sofa as he sat back down at his desk, beginning his piles of paperwork.

"Dad" Maisie softly spoke after a while of silence. He looked up slightly from his work, his eyes meeting hers before she spoke again "You don't how sorry I am" She apologised in almost a whisper as tears began to well up in her eyes.

Nick titled his head to look at her, he hated seeing her like this "Come here" He said, turning around his chair as she walked over; wrapping her tightly into his arms "I'm sorry too" He replied, kissing the top of her head as she began to cry.

"Do you still love me?" Maisie sobbed into his chest, as her tears soaked through his crisp white shirt.

Nick ran his hand up and down her back to soothe her "Of course I still love you" He reassured her, slightly hurt that she would even ask this "I love you more than anything in the world" He kissed the top of her head once again "You'll always be my little girl, you know that" He added "But this really needs to stop Maisie, I don't think I can take anymore" He admitted, lifting her chin up with his index finger and wiping away her tears.

Maisie nodded gently "I know" She sobbed "I hate upsetting you" She admitted.

Nick moved forward to kiss her forehead once again "Well no more than?" He asked, hoping that this would be the final end. They had had this conversation once before though.

Maisie once again nodded "I promise" She reassured him, her big brown eyes looking into his "I don't want to grow up" She admitted in a slight sob.

Nick removed loose strands of hair from her tearful face, still holding her tightly as though she was his little 4 year old girl again "I know sweetheart" He soothed her.

"Dad?" She spoke once again, waiting until she got Nick's nod to show that she had his full attention "I want too move schools" She revealed.

Nick looked at her in complete shock "What?" He asked, unsure if he had heard her correctly. She loved going to that school, all her friends were there.

"I think it's for the best" Maisie told him "I do feel pressured into doing most things" She shyly admitted.

"If that's what you want" Nick agreed "Then I'll find you the best school around here" He promised her, kissing her once again.

"I love you" She smiled into his chest, holding onto him tighter.

"I love you too" Nick whispered. He had missed hearing that from her, she rarely told him how much she still loved him now a days, but this was the start of a new beginning for everyone. He was going to do all he could to protect her from anything else.
