8 years later
The sun was shining through the window, lighting up the darkest parts of the room and making the dust particles dance around the room in a flurry. The June sun was up and ready to play in the early hours of the day; it was nearing 8am when the sun first made its appearance in the sky.
Stefan lay in the sun, walking the thin line of dreamy sleep and vivid consciousness. He could feel the sun hitting his bare back as he lay in utter silence, loving the feel of a bright morning and absolute peace. It was something that he didn't get quite often anymore.
Stefan could feel a heavy gaze on him before he had even opened his eyes and it caused a small smile to play around his lips.
"Can I help you?" He asked playfully with his eyes still closed. Stefan loved his Saturday mornings more than anything.
"Are you awake?" She asked with a tiny giggle, reaching out to poke his bare back.
Stefan shoved his face in the pillow, letting out a muffled "no" as he felt her hands pull the pillow his face was in.
"Come on, wake up. You promised that you would take me out for pancakes" She reasoned as she yanked one last time on the pillow and successfully ripped it away from his face.
Stefan groaned as he reached out and pulled her by the arm closer to him as he began tickling her tummy.
"Daddy stop it! I can't breathe!" Madi screamed out at the top of her lungs as her father started tickling her.
"What was that princess? I can't hear you" Stefan playfully shouted back as he leaned down to blow a raspberry on her stomach.
"Momma!" Madi yelled trying to get her mother's attention from the kitchen.
"Yeah, momma! Come help me tackle the birthday girl" Stefan yelled as he began to ease up on his assault on his beautiful baby girl.
Stefan could hear Elena's beautiful laugh before she even made it into the room. Elena walked in to see Stefan grabbing onto Madison as she tried to run away from her father.
At the age of 5, Madison was the spitting image of her mother. Tall, olive skin, beautiful brown hair and eyes that contained Stefan's perfect tint of green mixed with Elena's milky brown.
"What is going on here?" Elena asked as she placed her hands on her lower back, looking down at the two trouble makers of the house.
"Momma, daddy won't let me go" Madi giggled as she tried to squirm out of his grasp.
"You were the one who woke me up, princess. Now I can't even spend some time with you?" Stefan countered.
Madi began screaming again as Stefan's fingers began to tickle her again.
"Madi you have to get daddy back! You can't run away. Tickle him too, just like this" Elena said as she walked over to where Stefan was stretched on the bed and began ticking him under his arms.
"Hey, babe that's not fair!" Stefan said as Elena's began to tickle him the exact same way he was tickling Madison.
"Fair is fair daddy!" Madison yelled as she jumped on him and began tickling him with her mother.
"Hey, remember those pancakes? Guess who isn't gonna get any if she keeps tickling me" Stefan said as he grabbed both her hands and placed a kiss on them.
"No!" Madison yelled as she jumped off the bed and ran as fast as her little feet could take her to her room to get ready for breakfast with daddy.
Stefan smiled as his little baby girl ran out the room screaming, with her long brown hair trailing behind her.
Stefan then turned his attention to his beautiful wife that had found her way into bed with him while she was tickling him.
"Mmm, and what do we have here?" Stefan teased as he turned his body to face her. She was hiding a smile on her face as she ducked her head into his neck.
"Daddy needs to get up and take the birthday girl out for breakfast" Elena said as she felt Stefan's wandering hands on her lower back.
"Daddy needs to be here right now and give his beautiful wife some loving" He countered as he began kissing her exposed neck, sucking and biting as he went.
Elena's body responded to him even though she was fighting so hard not to. After 8 years of marriage, the spark was still there and his every touch left her wanting for more.
"mmm, no" Elena said as she placed her hands on his shoulders, pushing on them as his lips left her neck with a pop.
"What do you mean no?" He asked, genuinely confused with what the problem was.
"The last time you gave your beautiful wife some loving, you put a child in me" Elena said teasingly as she ran her hands down his toned chest, and over his abs.
Stefan laughed as he moved down in bed and was now facing her beautiful bump she was sporting.
Elena was currently 4 months pregnant and after one of Stefan's morning loving sessions, this was the result. Saying no to Stefan hadn't gotten any easier in their relationship, if anything, it was getting harder to say no to her loving husband.
"Yes I did" Stefan said proudly as he kissed her stomach and rubbed his hands against her bump slowly, giving Elena goose bumps.
Elena smiled down at Stefan as he was smiling at her stomach like a fool. She ran her hands through his tousled hair and kissed his head.
"We love you, you know" Elena said as Stefan moved himself upwards and was now face to face with Elena.
"I love you guys too, all three of you" Stefan said leaning in giving Elena a sweet kiss that made her weak in the knees, even if she was laying down.
"Okay now get up and take your daughter out for breakfast" Elena said as she pushed his shoulders and moved to get up off the bed.
"Why don't you come with us?" Stefan asked as he rolled out of bed, clad in his briefs as he walked around the room to get a fresh pair of briefs.
Elena went to work on making the bed as he headed for the shower attached to their master bedroom.
"Katherine is gonna come over in about half an hour, we're gonna decorate the house for Madi. So take your time with breakfast. Take her to the lake and go for a walk or something; I'll let you know when I'm done." Elena said as she finished up with bed, and her back to Stefan.
"Katherine is gonna help decorate a five year olds birthday party? The only thing she's decorated is a night club." Stefan said scoffing, as he walked into the bathroom and stripped naked for his shower.
"She has an eye for creativity, I'll need her." Elena said as she went to pick up the briefs he just took off and put them into the laundry hamper because in 10 years of living with him, it was something he couldn't grasp.
"Well, have fun with her!" Stefan said as he stepped into the shower and let the hot spray hit his solid, muscle body. It was a mystery to Elena how he had managed to maintain his body. His body was just as hot as ever, if not hotter.
"I'm gonna go get Madi ready for breakfast." Elena called as she left the room.

Six months later
"Hold my hand, babe" Stefan said as he held his hand out to Elena who was currently lying on a hospital bed, giving birth to their son.
"You think I wanna hold onto your hand? You're the reason this is happening" Elena grunted as she pushed on cue, as the doctor told her to.
"Alright Mrs. Salvatore, you're almost there, give it one more strong push for me!" The doctor announced as Elena screamed once more.
"Come on baby, you can do it" Stefan said, brushing the sweaty hair off her forehead and leaning down to kiss her.
"Stefan if you say one more word I promise you you're getting a vasectomy" Elena threatened as she pushed with all her force.
Elena's little remarks got the doctor and nurses to laugh. Stefan knew she meant none of the things she was saying, but it was just her trying to cope with giving birth.
Stefan just shut up and held her hand as Elena pushed and took deep breaths in and out. It was about five minutes later when Stefan heard a piercing cry and the doctor's voice.
"Well, lookie here! Welcome lil Ethan!" The doctor announced as Ethan Giuseppe Salvatore made his debut into the world.
The doctor passed the little baby boy to the nurses who brought him and placed him onto Elena's chest, letting her have one good look at her little baby boy.
"Oh, my little baby" Elena cried as the tears began flowing before she could even stop them.
Ethan cried for about a minute before he calmed down a little at the sound of his mother's voice. Stefan looked down at his son and broke out into a smile.
"He's beautiful, baby" Stefan said, letting his own tears form as he leaned down and gave Elena a sweet kiss.
"I wonder what colour his eyes are" Elena mused as she stared down at him squeezing his eyes shut. But before Stefan could say anything he opened his eyes to reveal a bright green, just like Stefan's.
"Of course he would have your eyes. Those Salvatore genes of yours are so strong" Elena complained with a smile as she silently gushed over her son.
"Yes they are" Stefan said as he reached out his one finger to play with his hand.
"We did good this time" Elena said looking up from Ethan and towards Stefan who had a huge smile on his face.
"Can we do this again?" Stefan asked excitedly as he looked at Elena with hopeful eyes.
"The answer is a resounding no." Elena said with finality as the nurses took Ethan to clean him up and swaddle him up.
Later that night Stefan and Elena both lay on the hospital bed with Ethan resting on Elena's chest as Stefan supported Elena's head with his arm.
Elena was exhausted, but she was glad she got this time to spend with Stefan and their new baby boy before they got home to all the madness.
"How do you think Madi is gonna do with him?" Elena asked as she leaned back onto his arm and kept a watchful eye on Ethan.
"I think she is gonna be an amazing older sister. She's been so excited to meet this little guy," Stefan said as he looked down at his son and placed a kiss on his head.
Elena hummed and nodded as she closed her eyes and rubbed Ethan's back in slow circles to soothe him as he slept.
"Elena," Stefan called out softly as he looked down at her. Elena opened her eyes and looked up at him, waiting for him to continue.
"Thank you for making me the happiest man in the world." Stefan said sincerely as he held her hand and brought it up to lay a kiss on it.
"You aren't the only one who's happy, you know. You make all three of us incredibly happy and without you there would be no family. I love you, Stefan" Elena said as she stretched her neck upwards toward him, asking for a kiss.
Stefan was more than happy to comply and leaned down to place a slow, sweet kiss on her waiting lips. Even after 10 years of being together, Stefan's kisses were the one thing that made Elena go crazy.
"We get to take our little guy home tomorrow and welcome the new addition" Elena said as she pulled away.
"I can't wait" Stefan said quietly as he rested his cheek against the top of her head and closed his eyes in content. Elena closed her eyes and they both drifted to sleep after a tiring, but memorable day.

10 years later
"Ethan!" Elena screamed as she stood at the bottom of the stairs, waiting for him to come downstairs and listen to her.
"What'd he do now?" Stefan said as he walked by, all ready for work with his crisp white dress shirt and coffee in hand.
"Why don't you go check the kitchen island and then come talk to me" Elena said not even turning around to look at him as Ethan poked his head around the corner of the stairs.
"I want you standing right here by the time I count to three mister," Elena said in a menacing tone, pointing to the step before her.
"I'd get down here if I were you, bud." Stefan said taking a sip of his coffee, waiting to see how Elena dealt with this one.
Ethan slowly came down the stairs avoiding the talk he was about to have with his mother.
Ethan wasn't a trouble maker, by any means. He was a good kid. He was a curious little bugger who was really into science and how things worked. At the age of ten, he was the spitting image of Stefan; from head to toe. He had Stefan's perfect sandy hair that was always styled perfectly, no doubt something Stefan taught him, perfect green eyes and a smile that could get him out of any mess.
"Yes, mom?" Ethan asked innocently as he stood before a very mad looking Elena.
"Have something you wanna tell me?" Elena asked as she looked at him, placing a hand on her hip waiting for his response.
"I love you?" Ethan asked, hoping it was the right response and would get him out of whatever trouble it was that he was about to get into.
Stefan let out a loud laugh behind Elena at his son's response. Stefan has done good to teach Ethan the ropes on how to win Elena over, but it looked like he wasn't getting out of this one.
"No, not exactly. Do you have something to say about the giant ecosystem sitting on the island?" Elena asked in a strict manner.
"It's for a science experiment" Ethan reasoned before Elena had even said anything.
"And what did we say about your science experiments?" Elena asked looking down at Ethan as he looked at his feet.
"Keep them out of the kitchen…" He mumbled.
"So what's sitting on my kitchen counter?" Elena asked
"Mom it's for an experiment! It's just a replica of the earth outside," Ethan said looking up at his mom as if she was overreacting.
"Ethan, there are bugs all over the kitchen counter, and they aren't even in a jar." Elena said as she sighed and ran her hand through her hair.
"I'm sorry?" Ethan tried to say as he looked up at his mother, flashing him the million dollar smile that Stefan had taught him.
Elena let out a deep breath and held back a smile at her adorable son, letting him know her anger was gone.
"Ethan you have 30 minutes before the bus gets here, and I want you to clean up that mess and get every insect off the counter before I go to work." Elena said running a hand through his hair.
"Hey!"
"Hey!"
Both Stefan and Ethan said at the same time at her actions. "What?" Elena asked looking back and forth between the two. "Don't touch the hair mom!" Ethan screamed as he ran to the mirror in the foyer and fixed his hair.
"Don't touch his hair" Stefan laughed at his son as he walked over to Elena and wrapped his arms around her.
"You know the rules, don't touch the hair," Stefan said jokingly as he turned Elena around in his arms and placed a kiss on her lips that were coated with chapstick.
"You let me touch yours," Elena countered as she ran her hands through his hair, smiling as Stefan feigned a pout.
"Dad you can't let her touch your hair! You said our hair was our prized possession!" Ethan said as he saw his mother play with his father's hair.
"Yeah well mommy can do anything she wants." Stefan said as Elena nuzzled his neck, proud at his response.
Ethan looked at the two, rolled his eyes, shrugged his shoulders and went to the kitchen to clean up his science experiment.
"Good answer," Elena said as she placed a kiss on his neck and pulled away from his arms to get her shoes on.
"Did Madi make her bus on time?" Stefan asked as he watched Elena get ready for her day at work.
"Yup! I also gave her some money from your wallet while you were showering. She needed it for a trip or something." Elena said as she looked in the mirror and fixed her hair.
"Should have gave her some extra money for lunch or something." Stefan said.
"You spoil her too much, Stef. She's fine with a packed lunch." Elena countered as she applied her lipstick.
"She's 15, baby, who packs a lunch? Don't you remember your days?" Stefan asked as he went to stand behind her and kiss her on the back of the head.
Elena sighed. "I keep forgetting she's in high school now. Where does the time go?" She asked as she turned around to place a kiss on his cheek.
"I'll see you after work, babe. Make sure Ethan cleans up his bugs and gets on his bus on time. Love you" She said as she grabbed her keys and made her way out the door.
"Love you!" Stefan shouted as he walked towards the kitchen to see how Ethan was doing with cleaning up the mess.

Twenty years later
"Madison and her fiancé dropped by today," Elena said as she sat in front of the fireplace with Stefan and their dog Benny.
"Did they? How were they doing?" Stefan asked as he sat down and handed Elena her cup of tea from the coffee table.
"They were doing well, planning a wedding is a lot of work." Elena said as she remembered her own wedding. It seemed like such a long time ago.
"Hmm, remember what ours was like?" Stefan asked as he wrapped his arms around her and kissed her head.
"Stefan, I'm 53 years old, I'm always gonna remember the day I chose to marry the love of my life." Elena said as she looked up at him.
Elena may have been 53, but she didn't look a day older than 40. It was something Stefan was constantly complimenting her on. Stefan was still very much in love with Elena, just like he was when he was her student teacher.
"Do you remember your grade 12 history class? That was a good semester, huh?" Stefan asked with a light laugh.
"Yeah, it was alright I suppose. I remember some guy picking up my textbook and handing it to me on the very first day of school." Elena teased as she reminisced on her memories.
"I remember seeing a very hot girl in white shorts, and a bright coral top, enticing me with her long legs. She was very easy on the eyes," Stefan said keeping up the ruse.
"You remember what I was wearing?" Elena asked, truly surprised with Stefan and his memory.
"Yes," he said simply without thinking twice. Stefan had always been the one to pay attention to the little things but this kind of surprised her and she was pleased.
"You know you're very sweet when you try to be," Elena said as she looked up at him in awe.
After all this time, Elena still looked at Stefan with the same wonder and amazement. Wondering how he was real and amazed at how she had got so lucky with him.
"I love you, Elena, I hope you know that." Stefan said wrapping his arms around him and bringing her closer to him.
"After all this time, it's the one thing that I do know…you love me more than you should," Elena said.
"Not nearly enough, Lena" Stefan countered as he closed his eyes and held her in his arms.
"I love you, Stefan. You've made me a happy woman…I'm so fortunate to have met you at such a young age." Elena said, letting herself tear up with all this love she felt towards this one man.
"We got lucky, and now I just wanna spend the rest of my life loving you with all that I have." Stefan said quietly.
"Thank you for walking into that history class so long ago," Elena said quietly as the fire burned in the fireplace and warmed up the room.
Stefan and Elena sat quietly wrapped up into each other's arms, letting the world pass them by, day by day.
