...Hi.
Long time no see, yes? I know, this isn't even an appropriate way to address myself to you guys after being completely inactive for these past few months. I really am sorry. I'm going to try to be a better author and overall friend for all of you wonderful people on here from now on. I love all of you, the excited reviewers, the shy silent follows and favorites, the people who just take the time to read my work. I don't deserve such amazing viewers.
Tonight is a special night. I purposely uploaded tonight, since it is our special pairs birthday. It's been six years. I haven't been a long time Vocaloid fan, but I have grown a strong attachment to these two over the past year and a half. To me, they're more than just computer programs. They're an escape, something that will always make me happy no matter what, with a simple song. They've made us laugh, squeal, blush, cry, maybe even scream in rage.
I dunno I'm weird.
But tonight, as a present for the Kagamines, and you guys, I present the next chapter of Secret Sins.
Disclaimer: are we really doing this right now like seriously can you not *kicks disclaimer across the room*
"Oi, Oi! It's 3:15, and Mama and Papa are about to take off!" I said loudly, hitting my still sleeping twin with a pillow.
Len groaned, rolling over and shoving his face into his pillow. "Tell them I said bye," he grumbled, sounding muffled from the pillow.
My eyebrow twitched. "Len, its 3 PM. Get your face out of that pillow and wake the heck up."
When he made no movement, I grumbled to myself and stomped over to the window. I ripped open the curtains, letting the bright light of day stream in. My twin groaned some more, muttering something about the sun melting him, then finally kicked off the covers and got out of bed. I smirked, feeling pretty proud of myself and ignoring the dirty glare he gave me.
"I'm going downstairs. I'll tell them to wait for you to see them off, so hurry on down so you don't make them late. If you even dare to fall back asleep, I'll break out the Super Soaker again~!" I sang, skipping out of the room and closing the door behind me so he could change.
"Satan's child..."
"Please, I'm Satan's wife."
Secret Sins
Chapter 3
Night By Ourselves
"Have a safe drive!" I called, waving to our parents' backs as they climbed into the Kasane's car.
"Will do! Have a nice night, and make sure you have a good dinner!" Mama replied and shut the car door.
The car then sped away, leaving Len and I waving at the doorstep. "'Kay, now what?" Len asked as he nibbled on a piece of peanut butter toast.
"Let's go to the grocery store so we can pick up some stuff for dinner tonight," I suggested and went back into the house.
"Wait, we're actually making dinner tonight?! Can't we just have junk food?" Len whined, stuffing down the rest of his toast.
"Yep! All you eat is toast and then some ramen or other crap most of the time, so I want to make a real meal for once," I explained.
I grabbed my purse off the kitchen counter and paused when I reached for the car keys. "Dammit, why does Mama have to be so strict about driving when they're out of town?" I grumbled.
Len pulled his hair into a lazy ponytail. "'Cuz she watches too many public service commercials about teenagers dying in car crashes?" he suggested.
"I guess. When are you going to get your hair cut? It's getting really long." I said, eying his blonde hair that went down farther than his shoulders.
"I don't really want to though... Going to get it cut is expensive, you know. Not to mention the hairdresser pretty much drools at my reflection the whole time."
I rolled my eyes and stepped out into the fresh fall air. It was late October, my favorite time of the year. The houses on our block go all out for Halloween, with skeletons and tombstones out in their front yards. It's a bummer that Mama doesn't let us decorate, saying that the house looks 'unprofessional' to her co-workers.
"But she does a good job," I said and walked beside Len.
He shrugged. "I guess. Its not really that hard to cut my hair, though."
I thought for a moment. "I could cut it. I used to when we were younger."
Len rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I remember. I also remember when you cut off a huge chunk in the back and messed up the whole thing, too."
I pouted. "Oh c'mon, we were 14! I'm sure I could do a much better job now!" I protested.
He smirked at me. "Whatever, whatever. But there's no way I'm letting you near my neck with a pair of scissors."
"...Brat."
"Hey, that's mean."
"Ooh! We should make some udon!" I exclaimed and reached up to grab some noodles off the store shelf.
Len grabbed it for me since I couldn't reach it (I'm still pretty pissed at him for being taller than me). He made some kind of grunting noise in the back of his throat, which I took as a yes.
"What kind, though?" I mumbled, rubbing my chin.
"I like Kitsune Udon."
"Tsukimi Udon it is!" I announced.
Len rolled his eyes. "Good thing to know you listen to me."
"I know, right? Now, to the veggie section to get some leeks!"
Len followed me as I skipped over to the veggie section to see familiar teal twintails bent over the section of leeks. My eyes brightened as I called, "MiMi-Moo!"
Miku turned to look at me and smiled. "Fancy seein' you here, kiddo."
"What's up?"
"Nothin, just pickin' up some dinner."
I looked down into her cart, only to see a ton of leeks. "Dinner? Only leeks...?"
She looked at me like I had sprouted another head. "Yeah, and?"
"But-"
Len stopped me by putting a hand on my shoulder. "Don't ask. It saves more brain cells that way," he whispered.
"Well, it was nice seein' you guys, but I gotta get home."
"Right! See ya at school."
"Yup! Remember, misuse the leeks and I'll negi slap the shit out of you!" she called and disappeared.
Len and I stared after her with confused looks on our faces.
"Well. That happened," Len finally said.
"What in the heck was that supposed to mean? How do you 'misuse' a leek?"
"Rin, it's Miku. Nothing she says makes sense."
"... Good point. Anyway, let's get the rest of the ingredients."
"But Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen~!" I whined, struggling against his grip on my collar.
"Nope. It's getting dark out and we need to get back before any creepers come out."
"Oh come on! It'll only take a second!" I protested and stuck him with two fingers in the stomach, surprising him into letting me go.
"Rin, we don't need to rent a movie. Besides, didn't you say that you were almost out of cash anyway?" Len tried to reason with me as he followed me as I skipped into the movie rental store.
"Teehee~! Who said it was my money we were using~?" I giggled.
"Riiiiiiin!"
"Now shut up and pick a movie with me~!" I ordered and dragged him after me by his sleeves.
"Rin-"
"Oooh! We should watch 5 Centimeters Per Second! No wait, Summer Wars! Ohhhh, I know, let's watch The Girl Who Leapt Through Time!" I suggested as I looked over the movies.
"Rin, those are all such girly movies! Can't we watch something like... Sweet! Rin! They have an entire row of horror movies over here!"
When we get home, we're loaded down with ingredients for dinner, scary movies, and junk food like pocky and four different flavors of ice cream that we picked up after getting movies. Before Len could retreat into his bedroom, I grabbed the collar of his shirt and tugged him after me. "Where do you think you're going? Remember, you're helping me make dinner."
"Yeah yeah, I know. I was going in to change clothes," he raised his eyebrows mischievously, "unless you want me to do it out here..."
My cheeks warmed to an unreasonable temperature. I let go of his collar and waved him off, babbling completely unintelligible nonsense that I didn't even understand myself. I felt him smirking at my back as I escaped further embarrassment in the kitchen. Why are you reacting like this? This is your nerdy brother Len, for crying out loud. You've seen each other stripped to nothing a billion times before.
While emptying grocery bags to start making dinner, my mind dug rebelliously into the subject even more. Then again, I haven't seen him naked since we were... what, twelve? No, I think it was eleven. I wonder what he looks like now-
More heat filled my face and my heart pounding loudly against my chest. That's so, so, so wrong, and I can't believe I just wondered why my twin brother looks like naked...!
And it's not the first time I've thought things like that, either. I've been... noticing things lately. I sometimes catch myself staring at his back and wondering when his shoulders had gotten so broad. Or sometimes I want to get him to sing with me like he used to, to see how much deeper his voice had become. I often wonder if he likes a certain type of girl, or if he likes someone already. I find myself wanting to be closer to him, both physically and mentally. I'm drawn to him, in a strange way that I've never felt before, almost like he's a magnet. Is it just a sister paying notice to changes in her twin's body? Or some sort of horny stage of pms I've never heard of?
To take my mind off of it, I sang If U Do Do under my breath softly, growing louder and louder until I was at a normal volume. "First you should kindly rip off this shirt I'm taking off, no worries~"
"Nuh uh. No Divine Divas in the house," Len grumbled as he passed behind me, tugging a strand of my hair as he went.
"It's time to get flyin', don't you hesitate darlin'," I sang mockingly, bumping his hip with mine playfully.
"Stooooop. That's going to be stuck in my head for the next week, you know. Then Kaito's going to hear me humming it and the Gay Bar Incident is going to happen all over again," he grumbled.
I giggled. "Aw, but the silver haired guy seemed to be really into you."
"Tch. What was his name again...? Dell, was it?" he wondered, rubbing his chin in thought.
"Aww, you even remember his name!"
"Rin. He was like, 40."
"Love is love, Lenny. Don't be afraid to venture out of the closet and come out to us all."
"Oh please."
I shoved napa cabbage and spring onion packages into his pouting face. "Stiffin up that lower lip and chop these for me while I boil the water."
"Yeah yeah..."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"...Fuck."
"...Len..."
"...Mmhmm."
"Why is your finger all bloody?"
"Um."
"Leeeen."
"I may or not have cut my finger when I was chopping the cabbage."
"Dammit, you idiot," I grumbled as I took his bloody hand and led him down the hall way to the bathroom.
I sat him down on the toilet as I dug through the medicine cabinet for some bandages. "Here, wash it out well before I put the bandages on," I told him.
He did as told silently, watching me taken out some bandages and antibacterial cream. "This is probably gonna sting, so bear with me here."
I gently took his index finger into my hands and applied the cream around the wound. I saw his other hand tighten its hold on the toilet seat out of the corner of my eye. I silently took out a bandage and wrapped it around the cut. When I looked up from my work, I found Len's two oceans for eyes staring down at me. "Yes?" I asked inquisitively.
He turned his face away. "Nothing," he said, his bangs shadowing his eyes.
"Hey Len, you feelin' alright? You're really warm-"
"I said nothing, okay? Let's just get back to making dinner."
"Geez," I muttered under my breath, following after him to the kitchen.
"Hey, why does it smell like something's burning?" Len mumbled, sniffing the air.
I raised an eyebrow and lifted the lid to the boiling water. The bottom of of the pot was… BURNED?!
I felt Len's head near my ear as he leaned over my shoulder to look into the pot. "You totally just burned water."
My face grew red as I slammed the lid back onto the pot. "I-I did not! It's probably from the last time you used it, you idiot!" I stammered, an embarrassing flush filling my cheeks.
"Pretty sure that wasn't there the last time I used it. Face it Rinny, you're as hopeless at cooking as I am," Len smirked, ruffling my hair as if I were much younger than him.
"S-Shut it! It's your fault! I was too busy helping you after you cut your finger, Little Brother!"
"That's a load of BS! I'm the older sibling, little missy!" he protested and folded his arms over his chest in defense.
"Nuh uh! I'm older by 5 seconds, just ask Mom!"
"...Well, I'm taller!"
"Ohh, so you're pulling the height card again?! Being this height at my age is normal for girls!"
"I'm gonna have to disagree with that, little miss 5'2" at seventeen~!"
"S-Says you, sir 5'1" when he was fourteen!"
"H-Hey, we don't talk about that time!"
"We didn't end up making dinner at all," Len sighed, snatching the large spoon out of my fingers and scooping up a spoonful of some ice cream flavor with brownie chunks mixed in.
"Ice cream's the dinner of champions. You should be thanking me," I mumbled through a mouthful of orange sorbet.
"Christ, you're starting to sound like the blue haired freak," Len grumbled with chocolate stains on both corners of his mouth.
"You started it," I said under my breath, though it was only loud enough for me to hear.
We sat under a mountain of blankets and a makeshift fort made out of pillows, the only light coming from the tv screen, which played the violent scenes of some weird paranormal plotline that didn't make any sense to me. I was more indulged in the four tubs of ice cream and pocky packages before me. I had a steady pattern going; first a large scoop of my favorite orange sorbet, then a weird strawberry shortcake flavor that I was starting to like more than I thought I would, then to that yummy chocolate brownie stuff Len was hogging most of, a little bite of banana split when he wasn't looking (seriously, his obsession for bananas is a force to be reckoned with), and a finally a stick of extra chocolate pocky.
"Hey move over a little bit. Your butt is squishing me," Len ordered with a stick of pocky in his mouth like a cigar.
"Oh, my deepest apologies, is this any better, old man?" I asked as I scooted even more into him, swinging an arm around his neck to bring him closer.
I could barely hear him mumble, "That's actually much worse," under his breath as he tugged a strand of my hair to get me to let go.
I unhooked my arm around his neck, but didn't make a move away. I heard him sigh as if he were giving up. Instead of pushing me out of the fort like he usually would, he shifted into a more comfortable position, with his head leaning against my shoulder.
My stomach fluttered in an unnatural way. I tried to focus my attention on the screen, where a girl was being brutally carried around her house by an unseen force, but my body was so heavily aware on Len's presence. He can hear my pounding heart, I'm sure. My body tingles where his warm skin is in contact. I was suddenly very self conscious of my ratty old t-shirt (which is actually stolen from his drawer, whoops) and worn out athletic shorts I wear as pajamas.
Why, why, why am I reacting this way? It's Len, my dorky, nerdy, geeky, short-tempered, grumpy, absolutely unsmooth little brother. This is the boy that I spent hours playing dress up with, holding spitting contests with, seeing who could eat the most wasabi before their mouth was on fire, arguing about what the best way to peel an orange, and making disgusting faces at passing cars on the highways since before I can remember. I can't find a single reason why I would find him so attractive, and not in a sisterly way, in this moment.
What on Earth is wrong with me?
But I can't help a smile forming on my lips as I lean my head on his, feeling relaxation at the sound of his steady breathing against me. The sweet scent of his hair fills my nose, and I drowsily wonder if he's been using a woman's shampoo, though I decided it may ruin the moment if I ask him out loud. I only wished that we could stay like that forever, snuggled close together and without a care in the world.
I was almost asleep by the time I feel him stir when the movie ends, possibly to get up to put in another disc. I didn't want him to get up, because we might not return to this position again. It wasn't like I was watching them anyway. So when he moves to stand, I hold on to his arm tightly, like a teddy bear. "What is it?" he asked, his eyes wide.
"Just stay here… I'm not even paying attention to the movie…" I mumbled, my eyes half closed and my voice tired.
He locked eyes with me, his face blank, yet his eyes filled with a sea of emotions that I'm too tired to read consistently. He seemed to be waiting for something. He seems almost scared, and I can feel him shaking slightly. What is he expecting me to do? Why does he seem so nervous? And why, is he suddenly very close to my face?
His breath on my face erased any trace of drowsiness in my system. He was so close. He seemed like he was restraining himself from doing something, the way his face looked like he was in pain when he finally pulled away briskly. "Goodnight, Rin," he said with tremor in his voice and disappeared, leaving me under the fort with wide eyes and possibly a very red face.
"Len?" I asked softly.
I walked to his bedroom, where he had retreated to so suddenly, and knocked on the door gently. "Len? Are you okay? What… What did I do?" I asked with worry filling my voice.
"It's nothing. Just go to bed, Rin," he snapped on the other side of the door.
"Len, if I made you uncomfortable, I'm sorry-"
"Just go to bed. Don't worry about it, alright?"
I eventually gave up and went back to the living room to clean up the mess we had made.
I hardly slept that night, due to the loud noises of things getting thrown at the wall in Len's room.
Heheuhehueh
Things are heating up, aren't they? I can't wait for the future chapters...
Happy Birthday Rin and Len! They would be 20, wouldn't they... O_O
