Chapter 33
Bridget stared at her lying in bed in disbelief. Her mind started racing. The only thing that she could come up with is that they mixed the potion wrong. It was the only logical explanation that her brain could settle on for Bevin being suddenly blind. She had double checked the list twice before she let Bevin make the tea. She began to shake her head thinking that she had missed something.
"We made it according to what Granddadda told us. I don't think that the potion is causing the blindness, Bridget. I am going to need you to calm down. One of us has to stay sane right now and I don't think that I um the likely candidate for the job," Bevin stated.
"How do you expect mc to stay calm, Bevin? You can't see. Something must have been wrong with the tea. I'm going to check it."
"Don't worry about the tea, now."
"But…"
"No, I need to talk to you about what is going on with me," Bevin told her.
"What do you mean?"
"I am beginning to remember things."
"You said that before."
"I know."
"Is there something you want to tell me?"
"I can feel what is coming," Bevin stated.
"What the Hell does that mean?"
"I told you that I remembered being chased by Mara when I was a teenager. I think that is when I came here. And, by that, I think that is when I came to this realm if the legends are truth. I think we can safely say that have some truth to them now. My body is telling us that much."
"So?"
"There was someone else with me."
"Who?"
"I don't remember her name, but she was with me. She was like a companion and she was slightly older. She knew me like she was family. That is all I can tell you. I don't remember much else because l was loo focused on getting away from Mara in the dream."
"You don't think that it was a dream, though, do you?"
"No. I don't. How can I believe that it is? My body is suddenly gaining tattoos. Legends that my Granddadda und other members of the family told me are starting to come true. I don't know what the blindness has to do with it, but I am sum that it does. But, that isn't what is troubling me, now."
"Then, what is?"
"There are two women coming. They will be here sooner than I'd like. But, they're here to help."
"Are you sure they are going to help us?"
"Yes, I can tell. They are looking for mc. They need my help, but they don't know it yet. They are still trying to figure out who I am and where I am. I don't know what they need help. I'll tell you that much before you start asking." Bevin told her.
"Can you tell me anything about them?"
"I believe that they are the mothers of the new Pendragon."
"Are you sure?" Bridget asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Look, I know that it is all too much. You have to understand that this isn't easy for me, either. I have had longer to come to grips with the stories though. I have some understanding of what is to come, what is expected of me, and what to look out for. You don't have that."
"I may not have grown up with it, but I have spent hours looking at it since this started. I don't know why I am not running for the hills. Bevin. I truly don`t. You're right this is too much, but I am not leaving you. I feel like I am supposed to be here. Maybe, I am someone in the legend, too. Who knows maybe you have some complicated BFF that they forgot to name or something."
"There was an aunt or cousin I believe that was a protector of the Queen and by default me. I guess. I just don't know what her name is. I don't remember anything about her. The legends are pretty vague as to her fate. Hell, they are vague about mine, too. We need to find out more about the legend. I know that you have been researching stuff, but has anything stuck out to you?" Bevin asked her.
Bridget stood up from the bed, letting go of her hand and paced at the end of the bed. Bevin pushed herself up into at seated position. She knew that Bridget had left the room. She could hear her pacing.
"I don't know what you want me to tell you."
"Just tell me what you found out, Bridget. I am blind, not dead. I can handle it. I mean come on. I just found out that I was at two thousand year old prophesized Irish hero of lore. What could you tell me that would have me in a panic?"
"I look some pictures of the tattoos and uploaded them to the computer before they faded."
"Okay, I understand. So, what? Did someone say something about them?"
"Seamus did."
"What did he say?"
"He wants to meet you."
"Did you reply?"
"No, of course not. I didn't want to put you into a position that we couldn't get out of quickly. Plus, I am still a little skeptical about his intentions. I know that he means well in studying the legend, but he did seem really over eager to hear your version." Bridget replied.
"Do you think he could help?"
"Maybe…"
"What is it?"
"It was just something that he said about one of the tattoos."
"Which was?" Bevin asked, trying to get her to just tell her.
"It is in Irish Gaelic, so forgive me for butchering the language."
"Just give it a try," Bevin told her.
"Beidh an mac Dragon a fháil ar a bhealach chuig an Banphrionsa as an tSionainn agus in Éirinn. Beidh a chroí dó mar thoradh ar a ghrá fíor, níl aon ábhar ar an t-achar nó na coinníollacha. Beidh sé teacht i gcónaí aici, an ceann geal, ainmnithe Sorcha. "
"Ag déithe agus bandéithe!"
"I am sure that I would share that sentiment if I knew what the Hell you just said."
"Sorry, it was something along the lines of 'by the gods and goddesses'."
"Is what I said bad?"
"No, it wasn't bad. It just further proves that the Pendragon is destined to be the love of my life."
"I was afraid of that. I loosely translated it. Seamus was too busy rattling of stuff in Irish and Gaelic. I couldn't keep up. You want to tell me what the Hell he said?" Bridget asked.
"Basically it means that the Pendragon will always find his love in the heart of the Princess of Shannon, who is called the Bright One," Bevin replied.
"That would be you."
"Aye, it is. So, based on what Seamus said, this Pendragon will be able to find me no matter where I am. Be it here on Earth or another realm, this person will always find me. Our hearts are already joined. He is to be my true love. I will have no real choice in the matter."
"What does that mean?"
"The transition started because I came in contact with him. We think it was at the Horse Championships. That means that he hasn't become the Pendragon, yet. He is more than likely on his way through this process. What that entails for him, I don't know. If the legends are true, he is in for some interesting fun," Bevin stated sarcastically.
"Why doesn't that surprise me?"
"Trials and fights, feats of strength, you know the usual legendary and mythological rites of passage."
"Joyous day for him, but what about you? Are you going to have to deal with anything like that? Do you need to be preparing for something?"
"No," Bevin said.
"You sound so sure about that."
"I am."
"How can you be?"
"My part of the legend is to survive and live. I think that I am doing a decent job of that. My birth and rearing are the stuffs of legend. I know that there will be at final fight with Mara and once it is over, I will be able to ascend to the throne of Tara without complications. Well, except for one," she stated.
"The fact that you will have a husband who is the Pendragon?"
"Precisely."
"Well then, I guess we should start planning our wedding," Bridget added sarcastically.
"Cad é ifreann? You can't be serious. Bridget, I don't even know who the man is that I am supposed to be marrying. Don't you think that we should wait to start planning anything?"
"You're right. What do you want to do?" Bridget asked, "Why don't you tell me more about these women that you mentioned, the ones that are supposed to be coming to find you?"
"I am sure that there is mention of them in the myths, but I get this feeling that they are the new Pendragon's mothers. Somehow they are related to the stories. I don't exactly how, but I can feel it. I don't know how to describe it to you. It is like I can see them in my mind's eye."
"Can you describe them to me? That way I know who to be on the lookout for. It might make things easier if we knew who we were to be expecting. I mean, you're blind, you aren't going to be able to spot them until they are already upon us, right? Maybe if I can see them coming..."
"It isn't like they are going to attack us, Bridget. I told you that they are on the way to us because they want to help. They aren't trying to hurt me. They are searching for me. They are the ones that are going to help me get back to Shannon."
"To Shannon?"
"Not the River Shannon in Ireland, Bridget. It is the link to Tara. Shannon flows both through Ireland and the mythical world of the Fae. Evidently that is my homeland. I will have to travel through the Shannon to get home. These women will have the power to get me home. They are powerful, but they aren't Fae. I don't even think that they are from here. There magic is too strong and this land doesn't have any real magic, just illusions. Those that actually possess true magicks aren't from this realm."
"Okay, I am going to need you to slow down. I can't just wrap my head around all this as quickly as you are. I know that you grew up on stories about this stuff and may have actually lived it. But, I am just a small town girl from the South. My folklore consists of the South winning the 'War of Northern Aggression.' My mythology was Dr. Seuss and Mother Goose. This is on a whole other plane."
"Yes, I know," Bevin stated matter-of-factly.
"You mean that literally?"
"Yes."
"Well, shit."
"Still want to be part of this. Things are going to get very interesting from here, Bridget. I'll understand if you leave. I think that the mothers will be here in two or three days tops. You can go."
"I am not leaving you."
"Why not? This isn't your fight. You aren't apart of this. I know that you said you feel like you should stay, but why? My life is very complicated and it is about to get fiercely more complicated. You should stay here and worry about school. I don't know when I'll be back once I leave here. You don't need to be worried about me."
"Too late," Bridget replied.
"Bridget…"
"Bevin, listen. I know that this is a crazy world of shit. I get that. I've been reading the legends. I know that you are supposed to magically, literally or figuratively, stop some massive possible other worldly apocalypse and a civil war. I am not going to let you do that alone. I have been the only person that has been there for you since you came here. I am not about to abandon you because it looks like it is about to storm. I am going to ride it out and see where it takes me. That is my choice, got it?"
"Are you sure you aren't Irish?"
"I might be, who knows?"
"Alright, we know that Mara is looking for me. If she can get to me first, all might be lost. But, I think that the Mothers are being sent to protect me. I don't think that we are going to have an easy time making it back to Shannon and then to Tara. I am sure that Mara is going to try to stop us, but I don't know when or how. I can't see that. All I can see is the Mothers," Bevin told her.
"Who are they?"
"I don't know and I don't know how they fit into the legend, but they do. I am just assuming that they are the parents of the Pendragon, but they could just be family friends of my mother's. I just don't know. All I know is that they remind me of the Yin Yang. One of them is dark and the other is light, but they complement each other. They are meant to be together. They share a bond that no one can deny, but there is darkness that surrounds them both."
"Darkness?"
"Their pasts were troubled and hard. It still haunts and affects them. But, something has recently changed between them, something for the better. They are both searching for the light and the redemption in which it can bathe them. It is the hidden darkness that will betray them to each other, but they will work through it and battle together for the sake of a child. A blood bond brings them together and will keep them together. It is a blood oath they have both taken," Bevin stated.
"A blood oath?"
"Yes, some old traditions state that a blood bond or blood oath must occur for a marriage to be valid. The practice was stopped as Christianity took over, but some areas still abide by the laws of old and myth. I don't know if the Mothers are married but if they aren't, they share some other blood bond."
"Any clue as to what?"
"Maybe they are the mothers of the Pendragon. They would share a child then. It would seem to make perfect sense, but then what about any of this really makes sense."
"And, they are coming to help you find your way home and to their son?"
"I said that is was plausible. I don't know if it is the truth. We won't know who they really are until they get here," Bevin replied.
"Well, I understand that. Now, we know they are coming here to help us, but what about Mara? Do you know or remember what she looks like? I would like to be prepared for her if she decides to show up first. I can't go and let you get kidnapped before the mythical Mothers get here," Bridget said.
"Will you help me into the kitchen?"
"Sure, but why?"
"I think I know something that might help us deal with Mara, but l am going to need your help."
"Well, let's go. I don't think that I want to deal with some mythological demon bitch on my own. And, let's face it, you're blind, so...I'm going to be the one doing the lighting. I don't know much about sword play or magic. I am good with a horse, but that isn't going to help us much, now is it?"
"Would you calm down? Just help me up and get me in the kitchen. I'll deal with the rest. Well, okay, I won't. I tell you what I need you to do for me. It will be easy," Bevin told her.
"Says the blind mythical hero," Bridget stated as she helped Bevin up off the bed.
It was easier to talk about than to do. Bridget did her best to let Bevin use her as a support as she stood up. Bevin leaned into her and Bridget took her weight until they were both happy with Bevin's stance. Bridget reached out and took Bevin's hand. She put it on her shoulder and tapped it there. Bevin nodded in understanding. Her hand would be her link to Bridget as they moved through the apartment and back to the kitchen. She could tell that Bridget put her directly behind her. All she would have to do was feel how Bridget moved and she would move accordingly. It was almost too simple, but Bevin made it work.
When they got into the kitchen, Bridget helped direct her into u chair at the table. Bevin took the seat willingly and without any mishap. Once she got Bevin situated, Bridget went to the fridge and got two beers. She opened them both. She picked up Bevin's hand and put a bottle in it. Bevin just looked up at her in surprise.
"I think that we deserve this. It has been a long day and we are theoretically going to be fighting mythical creatures. So, I think that we deserve a toast, first." Bridget told her.
"Only you, Bridget," Bevin replied and then took a long pull on the beer.
"What?"
"Nothing, but I need you to be serious, now."
"Okay, I'm serious."
"Good. Now, follow the directions to make some of the tea again. Don't question me. I am going to have you add some ingredients. I have a feeling that I am going to need to drink some more."
"What do you want me to add?"
"I'll tell you went it's time. Just brew some up right now. And, save it. It isn't going to be for me."
A/N: I am sorry for the long delay. I have been really busy with stuff and other stories. To be honest, I have another story and a new novel that I am working on. I hope to be writing more of this one. I don't plan on posting this new story until I am done writing it. And, then I will be able to post it almost daily for you. Also, just so you know, I have found my Buffy stories too. So hopefully, I'll be posting those for you soon as well. Well happy reading. And be kind and review. I promise that I'll be good and reply back if you. Let me know what you think. But, most of all, thanks for reading.
