Chapter Thirty-Two:
Mackenzie was relieved when her uncle just dumped her into the basement, locked the cage door, and stormed away. She didn't want to deal with him longer than she had to; she was beginning to like him a hell of a lot less than she cared for Gabe. She just hoped Sookie would not run into Gabe. Hell, she just hoped Sookie was able to get out of the church before they caught onto why she was here. Or else Eric and Godric may never know where she was. And she needed Eric and Godric to find her, and soon.
Her body ached, but it was not only the broken bones or the bruises that caused her agony. She could feel the familiar sickness, the light-headedness that was not only caused by the cut on her forehead. She stomach churned and the exhaustion wouldn't leave her alone. She just wanted to sleep for an entire week.
No, she was still sick. Being kidnapped by the fellowship of the sun hadn't changed that.
"Please hurry," she mumbled to herself, her eyes fluttering close. She just needed to rest, just for a little while. Maybe by the time she woke, Eric would be there to save the day. He had become good at saving the day, even if he did have a tendency to act like an ass afterwards.
She missed having Eric making everything better.
Mackenzie's scream felt like a silver knife lodging itself into his chest.
He was out of his office in mere seconds the moment the ear-piercing scream shattered the entire house. They had all been enjoying a calm, peaceful evening up until that point. Mackenzie had been behaving more so than usual since they had returned from Godric's only a week ago. He wondered if she feared she would be sent back if she stepped one toe out of line. He should have been glad for her obedience, but it felt wrong for her to be so worried that he would send her away again so quickly.
None of it mattered, however, as Eric knew if Godric discovered Mackenzie had been harmed in any shape or form while under his care, she would be taken away from him in a heartbeat. He couldn't let that happen, not after begging for her back. He may not exactly be thrilled to have her in his life, and it may not have been a decision he ever foresaw himself making, but he found that he couldn't part with her. That week had been the longest and most miserable of his life. He wouldn't allow for it to happen again.
He would work harder at this. Even if that did mean allowing himself to accept the fact that she was his. He was not used to caring about another, especially a breather. But Mackenzie was different. She was a pain in the ass, but when she smiled he brought him a sliver of joy that he never knew before. It was worth it all just for that smile.
Darting into the living room, he was surprised to find Mackenzie sitting on the ground, her bottom lip quivering as tears threatened to fall. Her hands were wrapped around her knee and he spied the coffee table was just slightly out of place.
"Mackenzie?" He knelt beside the upset girl. "Why did you scream?"
"I-it hurt me!" she pointed accusingly at the coffee table, a glare being sent to the inanimate object.
He struggled not to snicker at the ridiculous statement. "Did it now?"
"Yes," she sniffed, biting down hard on her bottom lip. "It just attacked me."
"Well that's not very nice of it, now is it?" his lips twitched upwards. "Where did this horrible table hit you?"
She pointed at her knee with a pout. "Here."
"Well then, lets take a look," Eric began lifting the material of her pants to take a look at her injured limb. Her knee looked perfectly fine minus an already fading red mark. She was unharmed, much to Eric's relief. He would have fought Godric before his maker could take her from him. "It looks fine."
"But-but…" her expression hardened. "But it hurts!"
He tried so hard not to laugh. She was acting ridiculous. She had learned from Pam how to be melodramatic, he assumed. "You're fine, Mackenzie. It was just a little accident."
"But it hurts!" a tear slid down her cheek, but she angrily brushed it away. "You don't believe me."
"Of course I believe you," Eric sighed, reaching for Mackenzie and lifting her up into his arms. She was growing quickly; soon she would be far too big to be carried. He found himself feeling somber at the thought.
"You don't care."
"I do care, Mackenzie," he settled on the couch, holding her on his lap. "What can I do?"
"Ice cream?" her eyes grew round as she tried to sucker him in. Another habit she had learned from his progeny.
Eric chuckled as he shook his head. "Not a chance, Mackenzie."
Her pout returned as her shoulders sagged. "Cake?"
"No sweets; you know the rules," he reminded her.
She let out a long sigh as she began playing with the material of his shirt. Her nose scrunched up in thought as she tried to think up the best way for her guardian to fix the damage the nasty coffee table had caused. He would never allow her sweets, not unless it was her birthday and it had only been a few weeks ago. She had enough Barbie's; Pam had bought her all of the pretty clothes and shoes for her army of dolls as a welcome home present. She could think of absolutely nothing, and that only made her grumpy.
Finally, a thought came to the little girl's head, her eyes brightening as she smiled adoringly at her guardian. "Kiss it better?"
Eric raised an eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
"Karen always kisses my boo boos better."
Eric was already shaking his head before she could finish her explanation. No, there was a line that he would not ever cross, and that was more than over it. "Think of something else, Mackenzie."
"But please?" she begged him. "Pretty please? Karen always does it."
"Then have Karen kiss it tomorrow," Eric set her on the cushion beside him before standing. He needed to escape into his office and quickly. "Now can you be more careful, or am I going to have to wrap you in pillows?"
She giggled at the warning. "Don't be silly, Eric."
He rolled his eyes as he turned to leave. Her tiny little hand, however, caught his before he could take a step away.
"Please, Eric?" she wasn't begging in her innocent little voice any longer. As he glanced down at her, he found her manipulative pleading expression to be wiped right off her face. She just looked like a little girl who wanted someone, anyone, to take care of her. "I'll never ask you again."
He shouldn't. He knew if Pam ever found out, she would never let him hear the end of it. But the look on her face made him want to choke.
"Just this once," he sent her a pointed look. "And you will not tell anyone of this. Understood?"
"Pinky promise!" she held her pinky out.
He cringed as he clasped his pinky around her, dwarfing her entire hand with one finger. She seemed pleased, however, as he knelt down and drew her knee forward.
"Pam will never know about this," he warned before leaning forward and brushing his lips across her kneecap.
The smile that broke out across her face as he stood made his ice-cold heart melt.
"Aw, wasn't that sweet?" a snicker sounded from the doorway.
Eric twisted around with horror plastered across his face. Pam stood with her hands planted on her hips, a smirk spreading across her lips.
"Not a word," he shot her a glare as he stormed from the room, brushing passed her with a knock of their shoulders.
Pam only snickered as he sulked into his office. Mackenzie's gushing laughter, however, caused the tiniest smile to cross his lips. Pam would remind him of this moment till the day they met the true death, but that single sound made it entirely worth it.
"No! Let me go!"
A moan sounded from Mackenzie's lips as voices broke her from her sleep. She wasn't sure how long she had been asleep for, but by the sounds of the struggling only outside of the cage door, Mackenzie assumed long enough. She forced her eyelids open, though they felt as heavy as stone. She just wanted to slip back into dream world, remembering a time when Eric had been so unsure of her, and yet and indulged in every silly, childish whim. He was always so hesitant, but he would always crumble, especially when he saw her tears. He would tell her bedtime stories when she had nightmares, he would kiss away her pain whenever some evil table or chair attacked her. No matter how stupid he may have deemed it, he had done it.
Even when Pam teased him about it.
"Let me go!" the voice screeched as the cage door was thrown open.
Mackenzie focused her attention on the scene before her and was surprised to find Sookie being thrown into her basement cell, an unfamiliar man finding the same fate as well. As Gabe was closing the cage door, Sookie ran to it, pounding her fist on the chain links.
"You can't do this! You can't just lock us in here! People know where we are. They'll come looking!" Sookie threatened to Steve who had the widest grin Mackenzie had ever seen plastered across his face. "Let us out!"
"Oh we're hoping your little vampires come rushing in to save you," Steve's gaze fell on Mackenzie's form in the corner. "We'll be ready for them."
Sookie twisted around, her eyes widening as she discovered the state Mackenzie was in. "Oh god, you monsters! She's just a girl!"
She was at Mackenzie's side in an instant, glaring across the small space to where Gabe and Steve were sharing twin grins.
"God wouldn't want this."
"And how do you know what God would want?" Steve raised an eyebrow. "You're a sympathizer of the devil. God would be ashamed of you."
"You're sick," Sookie spat, wrapping an arm around the teen's shoulders. When Mackenzie whimpered in pain, Sookie's glare only hardened. "Just you wait. They're going to kill all of you. And frankly, you deserve it."
Steve's laugh was a cackle that sent a chill down all of their spines. He was truly evil. "We'll see."
Mackenzie could feel his beady eyes on her but she couldn't muster the strength to glare back. Instead, she rested the back of her head against the wall and tried her hardest to breathe in and out without pain erupting. It was impossible, however. Her body was betraying her.
"They're gone," Sookie squeezed her shoulders. "God, what did they do to you?"
"Not entirely them," Mackenzie mumbled, her eyes fluttering close once more.
Sookie's shoulders fell, her expression crumbling. "It's the cancer too, isn't it?"
Mackenzie tried to nod, but it only hurt too much. Sookie understood, however, and offered the girl another squeeze.
"It's okay, Mackenzie. They're going to come," Sookie promised. "Eric and Godric and Pam, they're going to get you out of here."
"But they don't know where I am," she felt like crying. She had tried so hard to be strong, to not break in front of her family. She didn't want to be weak. She didn't want to give them the show they so desired. But as she sat there wrapped in Sookie's comforting arms, all she could do was cry. She was tired, she was in pain, and all she wanted was her family. But how could they come for her if they didn't know where she was?
"They know where you are, sweetie," Sookie assured, gingerly tucking a strand of Mackenzie's hair behind her ear. "Eric is going to kill every last one of those lunatics if he has to. He is coming."
She wanted to believe her, but her hope was starting to slip away.
"Just get some rest, okay? I promise everything is going to be all right. You'll see."
"Yeah, right, because being locked in the basement is definitely a good thing," the man who had been locked in with them snorted.
"Oh shut up, Hugo."
Mackenzie paced the length of the front hallway, glancing at the front door every few seconds. He wasn't there. Godric was supposed to be there by now. He had promised her he would be there. Christmas was only in a few days and he was always there. But he was two hours late and Mackenzie was starting to wonder if he would ever come.
Shooting a glance around her and finding no Eric in sight, Mackenzie shot to the front door. Maybe he was just on the porch. Maybe he forgot his key. Maybe he would be there waiting for her. She just needed to check. She struggled with the locks but had watched Eric on a handful of occasions and had memorized the routine. Finally, when the door was unlocked, she grasped onto the handle and yanked the door open. She was not, however, expecting it to be slammed shut only a split second later.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" Eric growled from behind her, his large hand planted on the door to keep it shut.
Mackenzie's eyes widened as she froze. She knew she was in trouble. She was in no way supposed to open the front door at night, and especially not leave the house on her own. She had pointed out to Eric that her friends would walk to the store and back alone all the time, but Eric would never budge on her rules. She had tried to go around them a few times, but that had never ended well for her.
"Step away from the door, Mackenzie," he ordered, laying his hand heavily on her shoulder. "Now."
She sighed with a huff as she dropped her hand from the handle and stepped around Eric. He glared down at her before stepping forward and putting the locks back in place. She tried to sneak down the hallway, wanting to evade an angry Eric, but he caught her arm and held her in place.
"What do you think you were doing, Mackenzie?" his eyes were narrowed. "You know the rules."
"But Godric isn't here yet," she pouted. "I was just checking to see if he forgot his key."
"I doubt Godric would be standing outside of the house without knocking if he did," Eric shook his head. "Do you really want me to ground you? I can take Christmas away."
Her mouth dropped open. "You can't take Christmas away!"
"Oh but I can," he released her arm but his pointed stare kept her from running off. "And I will. Do something like this again and I won't hesitate to."
She wanted to argue, but she knew better. She would never win against him, even if she had learned all of Pam's tips and tricks.
"Godric was supposed to be here already," her shoulders sagged in defeat.
Eric frowned as he crossed his arms over his chest. No, that girl was not going to do this to him tonight. "Don't pout, Mackenzie."
"He was supposed to be here two hours ago!" she bowed her head sadly. "He's not coming."
He knew he was in trouble the moment her bottom lip began to tremble. He cursed under his breath before clasping a finger under her chin, forcing her gaze up to meet his. "He'll be here, Mackenzie. Godric promised you that he would and he would not break that promise."
"Then why isn't he here?"
"He just got tied up. He'll be here," Eric assured. He just wanted to wipe that damn look off her face. She wasn't even trying to manipulate him, but he was still breaking at the sadness in her eyes. She didn't even realize the power she held over all of them when she wasn't even trying. "I promise you that he will be."
"But…"
"Go watch TV, Mackenzie. He'll be her soon," he ushered her towards the living room.
Her eyebrows furrowed in surprised. "But I never finished dinner. You never let me watch TV if I don't finish dinner."
"Yeah well you're driving me insane at the moment," he rolled his eyes. "Now go, before I change my mind. Godric will be here soon."
Mackenzie sighed but nodded, trudging towards the room. She stopped in the doorway, however, twisting around to face her guardian as he began back to his office.
"Are you sure he's coming? You can tell me the truth."
Eric rubbed the bridge of his nose and sighed. "He'll be here, Mackenzie. I promise. He's never missed a Christmas before."
"But…"
"Nothing could stop him from being here, Mackenzie," he offered a rare smile in reassurance. "He'll be here. Don't give up on him just yet."
She nodded sadly and slipped into the living room, the sound of the TV alerting him that she would be preoccupied at least for a little while.
It wasn't until much later that night that Eric found himself greeting his maker at the door. His eyes were narrowed as he slammed the door and locked up, his maker looking guilty as he glanced towards the living room.
"Is she still up? It's late."
"Of course she's still up," Eric grumbled, sending his maker a glare. "She refuses to go to bed because she's waiting on you. It's been hours, Godric."
"I know," Godric sighed, running a hand down his exhausted face. "The King of Texas refused to leave."
"I don't care," Eric spat. "All I care about is that Mackenzie has been moping around all night because she thinks you weren't coming. She's heartbroken, Godric."
"I'm sorry, my child. I never meant to hurt her. May I see her?"
Eric just angrily motioned into the living room. Godric offered an apologetic smile before entering the room. He wasn't surprised to find Mackenzie was curled up on the couch, fast asleep as the TV played across from her, long forgotten. He turned the TV off as he knelt beside the couch, laying a hand on her shoulder and gently rousing her. The moment her eyes popped open, she slapped his hand away and pulled up into a sitting position.
"I hate you," she mumbled, her arms crossing over her chest.
His face fell. "I'm sorry Mackenzie. I didn't realize I would be so late."
"You promised to be here ages ago!"
"I tried, I really did. I'm sorry," he reached for her, but she only pulled away. "Forgive me?"
"If you didn't want to come you didn't have to," her head turned to the side, a pout on her lips. "If you don't love me then…"
"Hey," he grasped onto her chin and forced her gaze back around. "Do not ever think that I do not love you, Mackenzie. Nothing will ever change that."
"But you promised to be here hours ago and you weren't."
"I know," he caressed her cheek. "I'm sorry, I really am. If I had known I would have been tied up, I would have called. But never did I not want to come, Mackenzie. I will always come."
"You don't have to."
"I will always be here, Mackenzie. There will never be anything or anyone in this world that could keep me from you. Do you understand that? No matter if it's Christmas, or your birthday, or any other reason. I will always be here and I will always want to," he vowed. "I love you, Mackenzie. I will always love you."
She narrowed her eyes for a moment, glaring at him like she didn't believe him. But after a moment, she cracked, and her arms fell away from her chest.
"Can I get a hug now? Or do you still hate me?" he pouted in return.
Mackenzie hesitated but eventually threw herself at the man. Godric chuckled as he embraced her tightly, never wishing to let go.
"That's better. I really am sorry, Mackenzie. It will never happen again. I will always be here, I promise."
"Good."
It was Hugo's pacing and ranting that caused Mackenzie to wake for the second time. Her head was pounding, and the light in the basement burned as she slowly drew her eyes open. Sookie was still beside her, rubbing her back every so often as if it would make everything better. They both knew the only thing that could fix everything would be Eric and Godric. Neither was lying to themselves.
"What time is it?" Mackenzie croaked out.
"Late afternoon. The sun should be setting soon," Sookie offered a smile. "Eric and Godric will be here in no time, you'll see."
"I doubt it," Hugo snorted. "They'll probably leave us in here to rot."
"Now is not the time, Hugo," Sookie sent him a glare.
"But it's the truth," Hugo pointed out. "Do you really think they're just going to come for us?"
"Of course they are," Sookie shook her head at him. "Now stop it; don't you see Mackenzie has gone through enough? She doesn't need to hear your doubts. Eric and Godric will come."
"Whatever," he grumbled, continuing his pacing. "I don't know how much longer I can be in here. I wasn't lying when I said I was claustrophobic. And I have to go to the bathroom. We need to get out of here. Maybe if we just told them everything we know…"
"No," Sookie sent him a dark look. "Just shut up and sit down, Hugo. They'll come. We'll be fine. Now stop it."
"No, I really need to go, Sookie. I need to get out of here," Hugo began panicking, inching towards the cage door.
Sookie rolled her eyes, tired of the man as she grabbed an empty water bottle. She gave Mackenzie's shoulders one last squeeze before standing and handing over the bottle.
"We'll look away," she offered.
"I don't need that, I need to get out of here," Hugo knocked the bottle away and grasped onto the chain link cage, his breathing growing rapid.
"Hey, it's okay," Sookie laid a hand on his shoulder in comfort, only for a gasp to sound from her lips. "Oh god, you're the traitor!"
Hugo's eyes grew wide as he shot her a look of surprise. "What are you talking about?"
Sookie snapped her hand away and took a step back. "I can't believe you. Isabel loves you. How could you do this to her?"
"I'm not…"
"Don't even lie to me," Sookie spat. "I saw everything. You came crawling to the fellowship of the sun and betrayed everyone. How could you do that?"
"You don't understand," he shook his head, running his fingers through his hair. "You don't know what it's like."
"I honestly don't give a shit," she pointed at the teenager. "Look at her, Hugo. Look at what you've done to her."
"That isn't my fault," he insisted.
"Like hell it isn't!" Sookie had never felt so angry before in her life. She hadn't known Mackenzie for that long; she barely even knew the girl. But she was the sweetest thing that did not deserve an ounce of shit that came at her. She didn't deserve to be sick, she didn't deserve to have some psychotic family after her, and she sure as hell didn't deserve to die this way. Maybe it was a maternal instinct kicking in, but Sookie wanted to tear Hugo apart for his part in harming that poor girl. "You were the one who told them where she was. You must have heard Isabel talking with Godric. You knew she was in Shreveport. You knew she was being taken to New York. You told them everything. You told them about me. I nearly got kidnapped at the airport, Hugo! And now we're here, locked up, because of you!"
Hugo cringed at her screams. "This wasn't…"
"No you do not get to play Mr. Innocent here," Sookie had to stop herself before she began throwing punches at him. Her gran would be appalled that she was acting this way. Then again, she was certain if her Gran had known Mackenzie, she would have slapped Hugo harder than Sookie ever could. "This is your fault. And for what reason?"
"You wouldn't understand."
"No, I wouldn't. Because no matter what, I wouldn't have been able to do something like this. How could you!"
"It's hard being with a vampire. You know…"
"Life is hard, Hugo! You don't betray the ones you love, though. Isabel will never forgive you for this. She loves Mackenzie. And Eric. Oh I cannot wait for him to shred you apart. Because he will. You're delusional to think that he wouldn't."
The colour drained from Hugo's face, but before he could try and utter a word in defence, coughing sounded from Mackenzie. Sookie whipped around but was frozen to the spot as she found Mackenzie bent over, her entire body shaking as she coughed up blood. The telepath's eyes were wide as she hurried to the girl's side, rubbing her back, holding her hair back in an attempt to soothe the pain away. She was horrified when Mackenzie only continued to cough up blood, small whimpers sounding from her lips.
"They'll be here soon, Mackenzie," Sookie promised. "You just need to hold on for a little while longer. I promise. They're coming."
Sookie only prayed that they made it in time.
Sookie was tapping her knee anxiously as she eyed Mackenzie. She had fallen asleep not to long after her ordeal and Sookie was worried. Her breathing was labored and as she tried to listen to Mackenzie's thoughts, hoping to find the girl at least dreaming, she found nothing. There was nothing at all.
The only hope she had was that the sun had just set. Eric and Godric would be here within minutes. She just really hoped they would be able to fix this.
"Where are you vampire's, huh?"
Sookie sent Hugo a dark glare. "They're coming."
"The sun has been set for what, ten minutes? Doesn't look like they're coming at all," Hugo shook his head, a small smirk on his lips.
"Don't look so smug. The fellowship has just left you down here. They don't care about you Hugo."
The smirk was wiped from his face and Sookie wanted to grin victoriously. He knew the fellowship didn't give a care in the world about him. They used Hugo to get to Mackenzie, and now that they had her, he was just collateral.
"They do," Hugo insisted before moving over to the cage door. "Hey! Can anyone hear me? They know everything! You can come let me out now!"
Sookie snorted, rolling her eyes at how naïve he was.
"Hey! Gabe? Gabe can you hear me? You can let me out!"
Sookie wanted to point out that it was just a waste of time, but she was surprised when Gabe did in fact come stomping down the stairs.
"Shut up down here," Gabe growled.
"They know everything, Gabe. You can let me out now," Hugo motioned to the lock. "You don't have to keep it up anymore."
A smirk slid across Gabe's lips as he turned his gaze onto Mackenzie. Sookie shuddered and quickly stood and placed herself in front of the defenceless teenager. She did not like the look on his face. She would be damned if she let him anywhere near her, the sick freak. She could hear what he wanted to do to her, what he had been dreaming he could do. It disgusted her.
"Come on, Gabe. Let me out," Hugo pleaded.
Gabe's eyes narrowed as he slipped the key from his pocket and unlocked the cage door. Before Hugo could slip out, however, Gabe grabbed him by the throat and threw him into the wall.
"Where do you think you're going you fangbanger?" Gabe snarled, kicking him in the stomach.
"But I joined the fellowship! I've helped you!"
"You still fucked one of them, you disgusting bastard," Gabe hissed, kicking him again.
Sookie eyed the open door as Gabe was distracted. She could leave so easily, but what about Mackenzie? She couldn't, and wouldn't, leave the girl behind. She wouldn't be able to carry her, however. They were so close to freedom, and yet they were stuck.
Where the hell were Eric and Godric?
When silence fell over them, Sookie began to worry. Hugo had fallen unconscious and they were now alone with a furious Gabe. The man turned on them after giving one last kick to Hugo's stomach, a wide smirk on his lips as his gaze swept over Mackenzie.
"Don't even think about it," Sookie stood her ground. She should have been afraid. She should have been petrified. And a part of her was. But she could at least fight back. Mackenzie was absolutely defenceless. Sookie would throw herself at Gabe if she had to to keep that man's sick thoughts from fruition.
"Well I could always have a little fun with you," he sneered, stepping forward. His large frame towered over her, but Sookie refused to step away. "How would you like that, you fangbanging whore?"
Before she could defend herself, Gabe reached for her, grabbing her arm and shoving her towards the wall. She screamed as she used her nails to try and scratch at his face. He slammed her back against the wall, a wince sounding from her lips. He tried to rip her dress down the middle but a swift kick to his crotch stopped his attack even just for a moment.
"You're going to pay for that, you little bitch!" he roared, the back of his hand meeting her cheek.
She yelped in pain as she sagged against the wall. He took the opportunity to grasp onto her throat, shoving the back of her head against the wall. Her vision blurred, black dots invading as everything swayed around her. As Gabe repeated the attack, she could no longer hold herself upright and slid down the wall and to the ground.
Gabe grinned as he turned his attention onto Mackenzie. "Now that she's out of the way…" he had wanted Mackenzie from the moment he laid eyes on her. She was so young, so sweet, that he had just wanted to get his hands on her from the beginning. But the god damn Newlin's had forbid it, at least until Anne and Jonathan got what they were looking for. Gabe didn't care now, however. The little bitch wasn't going to cooperate; he needed to teach her a lesson.
"No!" Sookie cried out, scrambling to her feet. She tried to attack Gabe, but he shoved her back to the ground with ease. She whimpered as she crawled towards Mackenzie. She would not let an innocent girl be used in that way. She refused to let Gabe touch her.
"Oh I'm going to enjoy you," Gabe lowered himself, his hand reaching for Mackenzie's ankle. His hand hovered over the bare skin for only just a moment, however, before it was no longer there.
Sookie screamed as the limb was ripped clean from Gabe's body, blood gushing everywhere. Gabe rolled on the ground in pain, only to be yanked onto his feet and grasped tightly around the neck.
"You. Will. Not. Touch. Her." Godric's voice was so low it was barely even a whisper. Sookie watched from the ground as she made it to Mackenzie's side, wrapping the girl into her arms. She had only met Godric once the other night, but he had seemed so calm and kind compared to the annoying ass that Eric was. But in that moment, Godric was neither calm nor kind.
Gabe had just attempted to defile what he treasured the most; he was furious.
"You are a disgrace to the human race," Godric tightened his grip, his eyes narrowed into slits as his fangs extended with a sharp click. "You are a disgusting human being and it will be my pleasure to end your existence."
"Please," Gabe sobbed in pleading.
"I will enjoy your screams," Godric reached his free hand forward, clutching onto the below average cock and ripping it clean from Gabe's body.
Sookie watched in complete horror as the blood poured from Gabe's crotch, his screams to haunt her for weeks to come. Godric didn't even look near ready to end Gabe's life. Sookie knew he would rip every single limb off of the man that had harmed Mackenzie and he would enjoy every second of it.
But Mackenzie didn't have that kind of time.
"G-Godric," her voice wavered as she tried to catch the vampire's attention. "Godric I know you want to hurt him for this, but Mackenzie needs you."
Godric's gaze flickered to Sookie before falling on the girl beside her. His entire expression crumbled as he took in her broken form. He didn't even hesitate as he snapped Godric's neck with a single swift movement, letting the body fall to the ground with a thud, before darting to Mackenzie's side.
"My sweet Mackenzie," he cupped her cheek gingerly. "What have they done to you."
"She was coughing blood, Godric. It's not just them. The cancer, it's…"Sookie trailed off. She didn't want to say it out loud. She didn't want to think that this might be how Mackenzie died.
"Mackenzie?" he tapped her cheek, trying to wake the girl up. He listened for her heartbeat, but it was barely even then. And that frightened him. Had they waited too long? Was he already too late? "Please Mackenzie, you cannot leave me just yet. Please open your eyes. I need you to wake up now."
Tears popped into Sookie's eyes as Godric pulled Mackenzie into his lap. She had hoped once Godric and Eric arrived, everything would be all right. But no one foresaw this happening. No one thought they would lose her before they could even save the day.
"Please," Godric was begging with the lifeless girl, shaking her in hopes of rousing her. "Please Mackenzie. I need you to wake up. I need you to open those beautiful eyes of yours. I beg of you. Do not leave me. Please do not leave me, my sweet."
He knew what he needed to do. He knew what the only option was. But he also knew Eric's view on the subject. Could he betray his child? But could he honestly just sit there and watch as Mackenzie's life slipped away?
He could not.
"I'm sorry my child," Godric murmured under his breath as he raised his wrist to his lips. He ripped open the flesh and quickly placed the bleeding limb over Mackenzie's mouth. He had to coax the blood down her throat, but after only a few drops he could see her sickly coloured bruises beginning to fade.
"Please, little one. Please come back to me," he ripped open his wrist for a second time as it had begun to heal, placing it back between her lips. The more blood she began to consume, the less like death she appeared.
But still, she did not wake.
"I will never leave you again, Mackenzie. I will never leave your side. You will be stuck with me until you're old and grey. But I will never leave you. Please come back to me," he promised, coaxing the last of the blood down her throat before his wrist once again healed. He raised his arm to tear into the flesh for a third time when a soft gasp sounded. His entire body slumped in relief as Mackenzie's fingers began to twitch. He only had to wait a brief moment before her eyelids fluttered, soon blue orbs blinking up at him.
"G-Godric?" her voice was hoarse.
"I'm here, my love. You're safe now."
