Santana's pov
"Come on Dan, you can trust me." Before the accident Dani was never afraid of heights. She had been on this rooftop many times before, writing music or just escaping from the harsh life of this over populated city. But now she is refusing to come any closer to the railing, or lack thereof. "You won't fall babe, I promise. I would never let that happen." I held out my hand for her praying she would join me.
"I can see the sunset from here thanks." She had an unsure look on her face and I made my way over to her.
"Please." I begged her one last time. I gave her my best puppy eyes and she gave in.
"Fine. But you owe me Lopez." She pointed a finger at me. We made our may closer to the edge of the rooftop.
"Now don't look down, just look at the buildings across the street." She did as she was told and her jaw dropped. My eyes didn't move from her face as it was in total awe. It had been sometime since she had seen a sunset from up here or the sunset in general, but it was our thing. She use to tell me about it's beauty and how it inspired her. In my world she was so much more beautiful than any sunset or sunrise. She was elegant and graceful but stern. She knew how to keep me on my toes.
"What is all this?" She was asking about all the events of the day. She didn't know this, but today was our anniversary. I had made her breakfast in bed this morning after we had worked up and incredible appetite. Then we went to the beach where we splashed each other in the water, laid in the sun and helped some little kids build a sandcastle. We walked along the beach and got some ice-cream. Seeing her playing with the children earlier had brought on some unfamiliar thoughts. 'That's a conversation for another day San.' I told myself as the feeling of Dani's lips on mine clouded my mind. "Earth to Santana!" She snapped her fingers. I shook my head. "Where did you just go love?"
"I was just thinking about the beach earlier, that's all." I kissed her forehead. "And this? Well today is our anniversary. Now before you get upset just listen. I knew if I told you, you would feel the need to do something for me when in fact you already do more than enough. Secondly, I didn't want you to feel bad for forgetting." She rolled her eyes and immediately wrapped her arms around my neck and our lips met once again. I grabbed her by the waist and pulled her impossibly close to me. Filling any and all gaps and spaces between us. I felt her lips curl into a smile as soft music began to fill the air. "I'd love to keep kissing you, but I have once more gift." I took her hand and led her across the uneven roof top, behind the small wall where the stairs lead up.
Dani's pov
I should've been upset with San since she did hide our anniversary from me but her eyes made me feel otherwise. I was happy and nervous and scared all at the same time, mostly because I didn't know what to expect from her. She knew more about me than I did, even before the accident. She knew how to calm my nerves and how to irritate me enough to get me to do something I had been putting off. She was so good to me and yet here I was knowing next to nothing about this woman. What I did know though was that I was completely in love with her.
There was a large blanket on the ground and a small picnic had been set up. Santana released my hand and began to light a few small candles she had brought up. The sun had now completely left the sky and darkness fell upon us as we waiting for the moons light to adjust over the busy city. Santana was once again at my side. "Now I'm total shit at playing guitar or any instrument for that matter so I decided on this.. Now Dani." I turned my attention back to the woman of my dreams and looked her in the eyes. I gave her a soft smile and my cheeks went red. I knew where this was going but I didn't dare interrupt. She took both of my hands into hers and. "Dani, I made a promise to myself some time ago when we first met. I promised to protect and love you for as long as you let me. I promised to fight for you and for us. I promised to never give up no matter what, because that I what you deserve. So now I make those promises in front of you, and soon, in front of all of our friends and family. I love you Dani and I know I always will." A small tear fell down my face and she wiped it away with the soft pad of her thumb. "Knowing I get to spend the rest of my life with you inspires me. You inspire me Dani." Our lips met once again but this was different. This was exhilarating. My body felt like it was floating as I felt her tongue graze my bottom lip. I let her take control as I melted in her arms.
A few minutes later her lips left mine and she pressed her forehead against mine. "I love you Santana. This whole day was perfect. Thank you." I said in a soft tone. Her eyes were closed but her mouth curled into a smile that was so captivating. All I could think was how damn lucky I was.
