I walked around with Raph in the park. I loved the park more than anywhere else, so Raph decided to take me out for a date. I looked up at Raph with a curious look on my face. "What are ya thinkin about now babe?" Raph asked. "I was just wondering what you would look like as a human, but I never tried to use my illusions to find out," I said, "I really like you the way you are."
Raph smiled. "Maybe you could try," he suggested. My eyes widened. "Really? Can I?" I asked. "Yeah, maybe I'll look even better," he said with a chuckle. I shrugged. "Maybe. Come on, lemme try," I said. We both sat down on the soft grass. "Okay hold still so you won't distract me," I said.
I started focusing hard on a human version of Raph. Within seconds I finished and opened my eyes. What stood before me made my jaw drop. Raph still had those wonderful green eyes, but the rest of him was different. Well, he still had all those muscles, but now I think a visible six pack was where his plastron used to be. His hair was dark brown and a little bit shaggy, so it flopped in his eyes every now and then. He wore a red shirt and dark blue jeans. His sais were still strapped to his belt. He. Was. So. GORGEOUS! I tried hard not to faint or scream like those girls on those stupid T.V. shows.
"So... How do I look?" Raph asked. I was silently praying that I wasn't drooling. "You look awesome!" I said, hugging him. He looked in the pond nearby to see for himself. "Yeah, you made me look cool... Hey, is this how you would imagine me to look?" he asked with a small smirk. A light blush colored my cheeks. To be honest I have been drawing him as a human a lot... "Maybe," I squeaked. Raph laughed. "Riiiiiiiight. Alright wait here," he said.
I cocked my head. "Why?" "You'll see, just wait here and don't move," Raph said quickly before walking off. I shrugged and looked back in the pond. I dipped my fingers in the cool water and swirled them around while I laid on my stomach. I heard footsteps coming my way and I expected to see Raph coming back. It wasn't, just some boy about my age. I shrugged and went back to what I was doing. That's when the boy sat next to me. "Hey," he said. I didn't answer. "What're you doing out here?" he asked. I looked at him. "Mindin my own business maybe you should try it," I snapped.
The boy chuckled. "Woah sorry Ms. Grumpy pants. I was just trying to be friendly. It can get lonely out here," he said. I rolled my eyes. "Did it ever occur to you that I might like being alone?" I asked with an annoyed look on my face. This guy was starting to really get on my nerves. I tried not to reach for my sword.
The guy leaned in close, a little too close for my liking. "Well, you won't be lonely if you come with me," he said. I pushed him back. "Ah, no thanks," I said. He leaned in again. "Oh come on, I don't bite," he said. Okay now he was creeping me out. I stood up and started to back up a little. "No," I said. I wanted to just chop him to pieces, but that wouldn't be something you'd wanna leave some unsuspecting civilian to discover now would it (note the sarcasm). I took another step back. "Leave me alone," I growled. This guy SERIOUSLY couldn't take a hint.
RAPH'S POV
I came back from the bushes with the small box with Kayla's surprise in it. I went to the pond to see her getting chased around by some random boy. By the looks of it, she was deciding whether to kill him, or keep running. I carefully set down the box and stormed over to the kid. I might not be a turtle that could REALLY scare him, but I could work with what I got. I stomped right between Kayla and the kid and stopped him. "Can I help you?" he asked. I could already tell he wasn't that smart.
I glared at him. "Yeah pal, do me a favor and leave her alone," I growled. The guy raised an eyebrow. "Why don't you mind your own business," he snapped. I crossed my arms. "When it's my girlfriend it is my business. Now beat it," I snarled. The guy stood his ground. "What makes you so sure? She might not even know you," he said. Okay now the guy was pissing me off.
I grabbed a fistful of his shirt, and glared at him so hard I could already see beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. "Listen buddy, you have ten seconds to leave and never come back, or else I'm gonna beat ya so hard even your own mother won't recognize ya," I said in low, threatening voice. I dropped him and watched as he ran off with a smirk on my face. I went back over to my box.
KAYLA'S POV
I watched as Raph scared that guy off, laughing at how the kid tripped and fell. I looked over to where Raph was picking something up off the ground. It looked like a small black box. I didn't know what was in it, so I was already curious. Raph sat next to me. "What's in the box?" I asked. He shook his head, chuckling. "You just hate surprises don't ya?" he asked. I shrugged. "I'm just curious. I actually like surprises," I replied.
Raph smiled. "Then you'll love this one. Close your eyes and don't open them until I say you can," he said. I closed my eyes and tried not to open them. I felt something being put on my arm. "Open them," Raph said. I opened my eyes and they widened instantly. "You got me a new bracelet," I said. It was silver this time, with small purple jewels on it. It was a little better than the last one. "Did ya even look at the engraving on it?" Raph asked. He turned it over and there were some words engraved on it.
They said: "Angel X Hero." I laughed a little. "It's what we call each other," I said. Raph smiled. "Yeah, so do ya like it?" I tackled him. "Are you kidding, yeah! How'd ya even get this?" I asked. Raph blushed a little. "I may have gotten some help from April," he said. I hugged him. "It's perfect for me. Thanks Raph," I said. He hugged me back. "Anything for my angel," he said, kissing me gently.
I pulled away and smiled widely at him. "You're so sweet and you don't even know it," I said, "Now let me change you back into a turtle, I like your shell better." Raph chuckled and let me change him back. After I was done he hugged me again. "Better?" he asked. I snuggled into his embrace. "Much better," I sighed happily. I looked at the sky, the moon casting silver light on the park as it got dark. Luckily we were in a place where there's not a lot of people, so we don't really have to worry about anyone seeing Raph. My eyes started to droop after awhile, and I started snuggling up against Raph's plastron with a tiny yawn. "Are you tired already?" he asked. I nodded sleepily, and he picked me up carefully. "Alright, I'll take ya back to the lair," he said.
I woke up in Raph's room, my head buried against his plastron. I looked on my wrist to see the bracelet still there. I smiled knowing it wasn't a dream. Raph was snoring softly, but it didn't bother me. I'd learned to get used to it eventually. I snuggled back in and tried to go back to sleep. Raph's arms tightened around me protectively. My eyes slowly closed and I drifted off into my dream.
KAYLA'S DREAM
I looked up from where I was laying in that all too familiar forest. I stood up and started walking around. Eventually I heard voices, and started walking in that direction. I saw who I guessed were my parents talking together. They mentioned my name a bunch of times. "Mom? Dad?" I asked quietly. They turned around. "Hello Kayla, come on and join us," Mom said. I cautiously came over and sat down between them. Up close I noticed my dad had hazel eyes like mine, while my mom had hair similar to mine. Our faces looked about the same too.
Just seeing my real parents for the first time, actually hearing their voices brought a few tears to my eyes. Dad pulled me into a hug. "Kayla it's okay," he said softly, rubbing my back in a soothing way. "I-I know but... It's just that you're both dead," I said in a shaky voice. Mom smiled. "Yeah, but it's just our earthly bodies that are dead," she said.
I sniffed and look up at them. "So this is the real you? I'm not imagining this?" I asked. Dad shook his head. "You created this specific world with your mind, but we're really here." I looked down. "How are you even here?" I asked. "We discovered how to come to you through your dreams. Better us than your nightmares right?" Mom asked. I chuckled half heartedly. "Yeah I guess so... Did my powers do this?" I asked. Dad looked at Mom. "No, that was me. I brought us here so you could see us. It'll only be for a short time, but it's great to see that you're doing so well," she said.
I nodded. "From what we know it seems like you caught the attention of a boy," Dad said. I laughed a little. Here I am, discussing something that I thought I'd never get to discuss with my dead dad, I thought with the shake of my head. "Yes... He's not exactly a BOY boy but close," I said. Mom smiled. "He's a mutant turtle. I saw from when I entered your mind. You seem to love him very much. Raphael, I think that's what his name is," she said. I nodded.
My dad raised his eyebrows. "This Raphael has been taking good care of my daughter right? Do I need to rough him up?" he asked. I laughed. "No Dad, Raph's really sweet. You don't need to worry about me," I said. "Well what about that Bradford who raised you? Has he been caring for you as well?" Dad asked. "Yes, Bradford's been taking great care of me," I replied. I felt a small jolt. "What was that?" I asked. "We have to go. You're waking up," Mom explained.
Tears sprung to my eyes again. "But I don't want you to leave. I still want to get to know you," I said. They both hugged me. "You'll see us soon Kayla, we promise," Dad said. I nodded and pulled away. "Bye Mom, bye Dad," I said.
NORMAL POV
My eyes fluttered open again to find Raph looking at me with concern. "You're crying," he said. I wiped my tears away. "I saw Mom and Dad, that's why," I said. I wiped away another tear that was threatening to fall. "I miss them... And seeing them just makes me miss them more," I said sadly. Raph softly placed his lips on mine, drawing me closer to him. "I'm still here for ya, I made a promise," he said when he pulled away. I placed my head on his chest. "I know... Thanks for that," I said quietly.
Raph placed his chin on my head. "Don't thank me, I have to," he replied. I cocked my head. "How do ya have to?" I asked. "Because I also promised myself I'd be there for you. I made that promise sometime after we became friends," he said. I nodded and sighed. "You really are the best Raph," I said quietly.
Raph kissed me again, this time wrapping his arms around my waist. I wrapped mine around his neck, pulling him closer. He tilted his head, deepening the kiss as pressed harder. I twirled the ends of his mask around my fingers. He pulled away and gave me a warm smile. "Every kiss is another promise to keep you safe and in my arms," he whispered in my ear. I blushed. "You make a lot of promises," I said. "But I'll be able to keep em," Raph replied. I love him, I really do. He's just so... Amazing. He can be a major jerk at times, but other times he gives me butterflies. I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him. "I love you," I whispered when I pulled away.
He smiled and rested his forehead against mine. "I love you too," he said, "My precious angel." I smiled at him, and he gently wrapped in a hug. "You know I really hate it when ya cry, you're too pretty for that. So, as another promise," he gently nuzzled and kissed my nose, "I'm gonna cheer you up." I laughed a little, it tickled. "Well it's working, guess you do keep your promises," I said. "Told ya," he said.
The door opened to reveal Hanna. "Mommy, Daddy," she whispered. "Yeah?" I asked. "I had another nightmare... It was scary," she said. Raph motioned for Hanna to sit next to me, and she sat down. Raph hugged us both. "It's okay, I'll take care of both of ya," he said. Hanna nodded. "Okay Daddy. Shwedder won't get us wight?" she asked. "Why would you ask a question like that?" I asked. "That what my nightmare was. Shwedder came and killed you... I was scared. He made me join him and he hurt me," she whispered, tears forming in her hazel eyes. Raph kissed her forehead. "It's alright sweetheart. I won't let anything like happen to ya. Kayla won't either," he said. I nodded and Hanna smiled.
"Can I stay in here? I not think I can go to sweep," Hanna said. She clutched her teddy bear to her chest. Raph laid down with both of us curled up in his arms. Her kissed me and Hanna on the cheek. "I promise to guard you both with my life," he said. Those few words were enough to comfort me, and I eventually closed my eyes.
RAPH'S POV
Kayla and Hanna finally fell asleep in my arms. They trusted me with so much, and I'm gonna make sure that I keep every promise I make to them. Kayla reached out her hand, her fingers brushing against my cheek. This happens sometimes after a nightmare. Kayla will reach out to make sure I'm okay. Laughing quietly, I gently grabbed her hand. She smiled and settled into my arms. Hanna slept between the two of us, holding her bear close to her chest. I'll keep them safe no matter what.
