Elaine had never been to Monte d'Or, so what she did know of it was from what Madeline had told her. While she was only here because of Descole and his schemes, it couldn't really keep her from being at the very least a tiny bit excited about seeing the Town of Miracles. It wasn't everyday after all when you get to go to town somewhat similar to Las Vegas in some aspects for free after all. Well, Elaine was assuming that was the case. No way in hell was she paying.
The hotel room itself was fairly decent. A room in a place called the 'Reunion Inn' (An impressively tall hotel that made it seem more like a castle in some ways). The very first building in the area that would eventually lead to the beginning of Monte d'Or. It felt a bit awkward having to wear a damn wig and a gaudy pair of glasses on the way to said room, because Descole (disguised as what Elaine would describe as a blonde, thin as a stick version of her brother until they made it to the room) didn't want her recognised. Given that she was a victim of kidnap that made sense.
The room itself was nice. The colour scheme of it was a mixture of green and gold that blended richly together with small furnishings that made the room suitable for entertaining guests as well as sleeping it. The view from the window was also rather impressive and made it possible to see the desert from the floor they were on.
"So we're staying 'ere for the rest of this trip?" Elaine asked Descole as she looked in the vanity and brushed her hair down. Wanting to fix it from the mess the wig had done to it. Descole himself was sitting on the small couch in the room.
"Not exactly, but we'll needing this room from the indefinite future."
"And that should be…?"
"I couldn't really say to be completely honest." Descole (probably with reluctance) admitted. "Though I have things prepared ahead of schedule so assuming Ascot believes me and does what I say, things should go along smoothly."
Elaine resisted rolling her eyes as she stood up and walked to the bed she called as hers. She knew before coming here that Descole would hardly get them separate rooms. He wouldn't risk her trying something. Sure, the room had two beds at least, but she still would have liked some privacy.
… Actually come to think of it, since they were sharing a room, was Descole going to sleep with his mask on?
"So, when are we starting?" Elaine asked as she laid back on the cosy bed, shutting her eyes to keep the bright ceiling light off of them."
"I'll tell you when." Elaine heard Descole stand up. "I'll be gone for a short time. Please don't do anything rash. I don't want to deal with your misbehaviour." Descole drawled before he left the room. Locking the door behind him. Elaine scoffed as she let herself relax. The bed was definitely comfortable. Maybe even more so then her bed back in Descole's home. Too bad there wasn't really a way to compare them.
When they had arrived in this little manufactured oasis in the desert, it had been late evening and still fairly busy. It was probably busy every hour for most of the day. She would have liked to see the lights though. Her cousin had told her they looked amazing at night.
At some point, Elaine had fallen asleep. There was nothing else to do in the room and Raymond wasn't here to talk to. He was 'elsewhere' according to Descole. Whatever that was supposed to mean. But a nap was a nap and Elaine had been slightly drowsy from the long trip anyway so it was deserved as far as Elaine was concerned.
Elaine had woken up with a start though once she felt a hand go over her mouth. She had panicked briefly until she saw it was Descole looking down at her calmly. It was night time now, but there was enough light from the window to make out everything.
"Elaine," Descole began calmly. "I'm going to let go of you and let you see something. But you mustn't yell. I don't want to draw attention." Warning bells were off n Elaine's ears. Descole must have done something he knew she wouldn't approve of. But what could he have possibly…
A horrifying though came to mind and Elaine pushed Descole away from her as she saw up. She felt all colour from her face drain when she saw her cousin Madeline tied up and gagged, left sitting against the wall. Her pale blonde hair was messed up from its previously neat bun with locks to go on either side of her face and her dark grey eyes looked terrified. Seeing Elaine, they lit up and she tried to speak though it was pointless with the gag.
"YOU BAS-!"
"I said, don't yell!" Descole hissed as he covered Elaine's mouth again. She pushed his hand off before he could tighten his grip and glared darkly towards the masked man.
"You said, 'mustn't'," Elaine mocked. "And you said that you-."
"That I wouldn't hurt Madeline or do physical harm towards her, yes." Descole nodded. "I never said I would take her hostage."
"And what was the point of that?!" Elaine stood up and moved to get near her elder cousin only to be held back by Descole.
"Because you're going to be playing a role here. Literally."
"I don't care! You can't just kidnap my own family!"
"Actually, in this case I can."
"And what makes you so sure of that?" Elaine spat. Descole didn't speak. Instead he turned to his own bed where a bag of clothes and a hat box laid. Elaine would have briefly wondered how she could have not noticed them till now had she not been so furious. He took out a blonde wig and put it down on Elaine's head and forced her to look in the nearest mirror.
The shade of blonde was pale, and the styling of it was similar to the way Madeline usually…
Elaine didn't think she could get anymore pale. With the wig, and a pair of coloured contact lens (and maybe her clothes too, just to be sure), Elaine could truly resemble her cousin Madeline. Maybe even pose as her for some time.
"I think you can understand what I have in mind." Descole said. "I'm going to need you to play your cousin for a short time as Mr. Ledore's assistant. At least until certain parts of my plan have passed."
"And if I refuse, you're taking Madeline with us." Elaine mumbled, a sudden lightheaded-ness coming over her.
"Ah, good to see you're catching on." Descole nodded. "I understand this is difficult, but if you just do what you're told, everything will turn out fine in the end." Elaine gritted her teeth. She hated this position now and just wanted to punch the arrogant git. Clenching her jaw, she reluctantly nodded.
"Fine." Elaine spat. "Just don't 'urt Madeline."
"Then there's nothing to fear." Descole walked to the windows to look out. "They're not expecting her back for a week. I suggest using that time to learn how to act around your temporary employers." There was muffled yelling heard, and Elaine looked to see her cousin looking directly at Descole as she did this. At least Madeline was blaming Descole and not her.
Elaine could take that much.
OMAKE THEATRE: Where Layton characters are chibi-fied!
"Can I 'elp myself to the mini-fridge?" Elaine asked Descole once they got inside the hotel room.
"Of course." Descole nodded. Elaine grinned and ran to the mini-fridge and threw the door open. "Just no booze."
"What?!" Elaine looked at Descole like he just killed a puppy.
"Have you seen the prices woman?! I'm not paying thirty five pounds for a small bottle of gin!" Descole snapped.
"Youbuilt machines to destroy towns and island but you won't spend money on alcohol?! What kind of messed up cheap stake are you?!"
"I am not a cheap stake!" Descole countered angrily. "I just save all my money for the more important things in life."
"Like destruction?!"
"It's not destruction, but more less yes."
"I'm drinking the gin!" Elaine grabbed the bottle and tried to get it open.
"Oh no you don't!" Descole ran over and tried to pull the bottle from Elaine's hands.
"GIVE IT TO ME!"
"NEVER! IT'S MINE!"
"IT ISN'T SO HAND IT OVER!"
"I WANT A DRINK!"
"THEN GO FOR THE WATER!"
"FUCK WATER!"
"THE APPLE JUICE!"
"PISS OFF!"
"NO! ALCOHOL!" Descole almost seemed to have pulled the bottle from Elaine, but Elaine decided to do a dirty trick.
She kicked him in the nuts.
Descole gave a sharp gasp of pain before falling to his knees, then his side. Whimpering and sobbing as he clutched himself.
Elaine meanwhile, happily helped herself to the fridge and dumped all the sweets wrappers from chocolate and such on top of Descole, and once drunk, threw the empty bottles of alcohol out through the open window.
Glad you guys like the story up to this point, and I hope you continue to like it :)
I wouldn't necessarily say it was clever of me to use Redoll as Angela's maiden name. I just thought since the name looked like 'red doll' and Angela's dress looks like a redish orange colour, that it just sort of fit ^^
