Chapter Fifteen – Interesting

The mystic didn't immediately speak to them. She strolled up to the group and glanced at the orange-ish pools of vomit, a jar clasped between her slender fingers. Her yellow eyes flickered curiously and she snapped her fingers.

The regurgitated remains vanished leaving an orange stain on the concrete and suddenly the witch's jar was filled.

Ingrid's nose wrinkled, Jonno frowned and Robin looked from the floor to the jar in amazement. Maja-Keht tapped her naked yet pointed nails on the glass. "Human vomit is an extremely useful ingredient in curses." She shrugged at Ingrid's judging stare. "You wouldn't believe how many people dream of vengeance involving vomit." She didn't miss a beat as she walked briskly back to the door.

The witch welcomed them into her home, not blinking an eye at the fact she'd just given a vampire permanent access to her abode. She provided Jonno and Robin with a cup of tea each and also gave Ingrid tea but used blood rather than milk.

Apparently casting spells for a living paid very well judging by the house they were in. Despite its nasty area the interior was lavishly decorated and Ingrid found herself admiring the deep purples within the colour scheme. Maja-Keht went and filed away her bottle of vomit then returned to sit on the grey sofa opposite the trio.

"What brings you to my neck of the woods?" As she talked Ingrid found herself being fascinated by the blue light dancing around the mystic's fingertips. "Vampires and slayers don't tend to work together and humans don't come here at all." With a snap of her fingers the cups refilled.

Jonno had been designated the job of explaining the situation due to the fact Ingrid would much prefer kill their target and if Robin opened his mouth then the witch would surely kill them. The slayer did his best to explain that had now lost it as a consequence of having his soul removed.

Maja-Keht managed to listen without looking as bored as Ingrid and still looked thoroughly intrigued by the time the slayer had finally stopped talking.

"Your garbled retelling of the story still does not explain your presence here." The witch gestured at the group as if inviting them to look at themselves for the first time. "A vampire who loves evil working alongside an infamous slayer and a human who can do very little all working together. How could one vampire spur this camaraderie?"

Ingrid wet her lips as Jonno said "he's more than just one vampire."

Maja-Keht smiled. "I suppose he isn't." A little twinkle of cheekiness shone within the yellow headlight irises. "I liked him, he had a kind soul."

"And now he doesn't." Ingrid snapped. "Care to solve our little issue?" The witch stared at Ingrid with an unidentifiable expression on her face.

"I would not expect you to want his soul back, after all: you are a vampire."

Ingrid scowled; she hated it when people made assumptions. "When I don't benefit, I don't like."

Jonno cut in just as the mystic opened her mouth to reply. "It doesn't matter why some of us are here!" He gave Ingrid a pointed look. "All that matters is what we need to do; can you help us?"

Maja-Keht nodded at the group. "I can, although Valtov had me remove his soul he never said I couldn't restore it." There was a chink of glass that distracted from the serious conversation.

Robin was stood over the remains of an expensive-looking marble bird. He turned red under all the eyes looking at him. "Uh," he looked down and winced. "Sorry?"

The witch snapped her fingers and the bird was back in one piece. "There is no issue but I would prefer you stand away from breakable objects." She gestured to the shelves on the other side of the rooms. "Examine my books; perhaps my knowledge would benefit you." Robin obediently backed away from anything fragile and began examining the hefty volumes adorning the bookshelves.

"Back to restoring Vlad's soul?" Jonno encouraged glancing at the windows where the light would appear very shortly. Ingrid glanced there also bristling as she tangibly could smell the sunrise approaching.

She turned back to the mystic and Jonno. "Let's hurry this up. I've probably got about twenty minutes to get us all back to Lancashire before I burn."

Maja-Keht nodded. "Alright. In short I need Vlad's soul and I will also need you to capture him and bring him to me when the time comes."

Ingrid gave a mirthless smile. "Got it." She stood up and headed to where Robin was poking at shelves and grabbed his collar. "Put the book back, we're heading home." She didn't give him much time to do anything and vanished in a flurry of air.

Jonno got to his feet. "I should probably get ready to throw up again."

The witch held out a hand to stop him. "I can help with that." With a casual flick of the hand she pulled a bluish vial out of thin air. "Drink this and I assure you that your travels will be far more comfortable."

Just after Jonno finished downing the potion Ingrid appeared and flew him back to the school.

Maja-Keht smiled at the spot where they vanished and head to her bedroom.

"How much did you tell them?"

"Just enough to get them killed." She leaned down and planted a kiss on her lover's throat.

"Good," He breathed pulling her down onto the soft sheets.

Maja-Keht found her breathing accelerated as the vampire planted a row of icy kisses along her pulse.

"Good," Vlad repeated his eyes glittering red with lust.

The witch gasped and relaxed into him as his tongue made its way down.

Not quite what you were expecting?

Finale tonight whoo!
