Elaine truly had to struggle to avoid glaring at 'Angela' as they and Henry headed towards the Ledore estate. It took a lot of will to not just tackle 'her' to the ground and either berate 'her' with words or fists. Either way, the point would have gotten across.
At the front door, just as Henry placed the key in the keyhole, 'Angela' spoke up.
"Henry, do you mind if Madeline and I walk in the garden for a few minutes. We won't be long." Henry looked uncertain, looking away from them both to nearby areas. Although not looking certain with agreeing, he nodded his head.
"If you… really want to. Just be safe and don't go too far. Please."
"We'll be fine." Elaine mumbled. Henry stared at Elaine for a moment before nodding.
"Good night then." Henry leaned down to place a kiss on Elaine's forehead before he went inside the house. 'Angela' grabbed Elaine and dragged her back down the steps and into the garden, near the greenhouse. 'Her' grip was tighter than before and didn't lessen even as they stopped walking.
"Something the matter, Descole?" Elaine questioned with a slight sneer in her tone.
"Oh, nothing. Just wanted to see how you were." Descole replied. Even when acknowledged by his name, he didn't from the Angela voice. Probably just as well. It would have made the whole thing even creepier.
"Well I just found out you've kidnapped my cousin's boss's wife, so what exactly am I supposed to feel?" Elaine snapped. "What is with you and kidnapped people or 'olding them 'ostage?! It's bad enough you've kidnapped my cousin without taking Angela and threatening to destroy the city!"
"Technically, Randall is going to do that."
"And YOU enabled it!" Elaine hissed. "And 'e's the one who might get all the blame because of you!"
"I've told you once, I've told you a million times," Descole snarled. "Everything for them will be fine in the end! There's nothing for you to worry about!"
"Easy enough for you to say." Elaine muttered. "You don't 'ave to ever look back 'ere again. I might since Madeline's with 'Enry, you selfish jerk!"
"I'm not selfish!" Descole snapped. "Things just… end up in a way that make me look selfish."
"Whatever you say." Elaine scoffed. "So where IS Angela now anyway?"
"I specifically instructed Randall to bring her to the Reunion Inn. Your cousin will be getting a roommate."
"And 'e actually listened to you?" Elaine asked. It was a bit hard to imagine Randall doing anything like tying Angela up and leaving her locked in a hotel room with Madeline.
"He did actually. Considering tomorrow's miracle, it would keep her safer than most buildings in this city." Descole responded.
"And what IS tomorrow's miracle?"
"… You don't need to know."
"Yes I do!" Elaine glared harshly. "This city could be destroyed and that will affect my cousin, and I can't just let 'er be-."
"For God's sake woman, stop it!" Descole grabbed Elaine's shoulders. "You've said this type of thing so many times now, and it's just tiresome! Just stop thinking and let me do my job to get that mask!"
"What makes you so certain the Mask of Order is even 'ere?! Or 'Enry even 'aves it?! 'E may very well not 'ave it as 'e's said before and you'll 'ave cost this city many lives just because of a hunch!"
"Well as much as I loathe having to admit it, the professor will probably come up with a solution regardless." Descole said with a small, sneering tone. Any other time and Elaine would have felt something akin to smugness about Descole admitting Professor Layton would figure out a solution. But she was too… too… Too, frustrated to think of how to describe her current emotion.
"I… I, 'ate you so much right now." Elaine muttered, her hands lightly shaking.
"… I know." Descole sighed. "I haven't exactly started our… 'relationship', of sorts in a memorable way, have I?"
"Gee, what was your first clue?" Elaine didn't even need to say it in a sarcastic way.
"Elaine, I…" Descole trailed off. "… I know that if things fail and this town does perish, you will never forgive. I understand that, and frankly I'm willing to risk that for my ultimate goal." Descole held Elaine's hand in his a little more gently. "But that doesn't mean you're anything such as last."
"Maybe not, but I'm still behind." Elaine scoffed.
"I still care for you!" Descole snapped. "I just… It's difficult! After Lucy… The thought of feeling more than just a sexual attraction towards a woman just felt unbelievable for a while! I loved her, and you… You just… I don't know what you did, but I don't want to see you go once I've accomplished my goals!"
"… I'm still angry with you." Elaine glanced away.
"I think we've established that before." Descole mused. "But I still assure you, that everything will be fine tomorrow. I'll get my mask, and the city will survive."
"And Madeline?" Elaine looked at Descole sharply. "I played 'er just like you told me to. I 'behaved'. You'll let 'er go? And she'll be safe?"
"Just like I promised." Descole tilted his head to the side. "Do you want me to hold you again?"
"I'm not in the mood." bluntly stated Elaine as she folded her arms. "Maybe after all this is over and the city and Madeline are fine. And even then, you'll 'ave to be lucky."
"Somehow, hearing that from you is no surprise." Descole remarked dryly, before he looked back up at the sky for a moment. "Tomorrow, the first chance you get, head to the Reunion Inn and go to room 221. Raymond will be there. It's best if you aren't here tomorrow after evening." Elaine tightened her lips but didn't respond. "… Let's go inside." Descole suggested. "Henry will likely expect us back soon. And I'm going to need you to fill me in on some details so I can continue to play Angela."
"Why?" Elaine asked suddenly. "Why kidnap Angela to play 'er?"
"I figure since she would have known Henry longer than your cousin, Henry would be more open about it to her then Madeline." Descole responded as he began to walk back towards the mansion. Elaine quickly following just behind him.
Elaine was not happy with herself for doing so right now, but she couldn't deny Descole had a good point.
