Part Eleven
Eve made her way down the hallway, all too aware of the taller and much larger form that was walking beside her. When she and Roman Reigns had first started walking together, she had been trailing behind him, but the man had slowed his pace at the end of the first hall, making sure she was next to him instead of behind him. She couldn't say she wasn't walking next to him a bit hesitantly, however... Reigns was, after all, a pretty big guy, and she'd seen the damage he could do to people. Not that he'd shown any sort of violent tendencies toward the divas or anything; none of the members of the Shield had. Still, it was a bit disconcerting to be walking alongside him in the hallway.
"You going to tell me what Teddy Long was talking to you about while I was waiting? Or do you want to wait until we're with the others and just tell it the one time?" Reigns asked her as they walked, and Eve shot a look over at the man, finding him glancing over at her as well, and the divas' champion shrugged.
"Easier to tell all of you at once, I suppose," she told him, and the big man nodded, not pressing the issue, which Eve had to admit that she appreciated. Of course, Roman didn't seem like that big of a talker anyway - at least not from what she'd seen so far - so maybe he was just glad that she didn't seem to want to carry on a conversation any more than he did. Whatever the case, the two of them made their way through the halls in silence after that, Eve mentally keeping track of the path they were taking so that she wouldn't get lost later tonight when she was leaving... Or if she needed to make a quick escape or something.
In all honesty, Reigns didn't take her too far, it was just that there were several quick cuts through hallways, but they made it to a room pretty quickly, the door of it totally nondescript. If no one saw them heading into this room, no one would know it was being used as a locker room tonight. Reigns knocked briefly on the door before opening it, the man gesturing for her to go inside first... Which, admittedly, she did with more than a hint of nerves. After all, she still didn't know what exactly to expect from the trio of men that she was technically now the manager of.
Taking a deep breath, Eve entered the room, her gaze quickly moving around, noting that it appeared it might have once been a break room, though she doubted it was currently used as one. It was pretty run-down, a pretty good rip in one section of the carpet, and the furniture looked more than a little worn. Still, it was better - and far less cramped - than the storage closet she'd been tugged into the week before.
Dean Ambrose looked up from his phone, which it appeared he'd been playing some sort of a game on. "I see you found her," the man said, tossing his phone over with his gear, then rising to his feet. He arched a brow as he looked at the diva. "Not the greatest place, I know. But it works for our needs." His gaze moved over her, though Eve didn't think he meant anything by it; he was just taking in what she was wearing. "If you have a match, we'll leave the room while you change. Obviously."
"And I'm guessing she does have a match," Reigns put in, the big man calmly putting her bag down on a table in the corner of the room. A table that Seth Rollins just so happened to be sitting on. Of course, if Reigns was going to put her gear down next to one of his teammates, she supposed she'd rather it be Rollins than Ambrose. Ambrose just made her too nervous.
"Why's that?" Seth wanted to know, the man frowning slightly as he secured the tie he had in his hair.
"When I saw her, she was with Teddy Long, and he looked pretty happy. I'm guessing he got her put in a match or something. Either that, or he was just taunting her about putting her with us or something," Reigns stated, and Ambrose looked at her, the man arching a brow as he came to stand in front of her.
"Which one was it? Taunting you, or telling you about a match for tonight?" He shook his head slightly. "Or maybe a little of both?"
She saw no reason to lie. "Both, really. But he's an ass, so the taunting thing is to be expected. I imagine he managed to convince Booker or Vickie that the match idea he had is fair."
Ambrose frowned, crossing his arms over his chest, the man stepping a little closer to her... Eve forcing herself not to step back. "And what match is that?"
"Did he put you in a handicap match or something?" Rollins asked, the man sliding off the table and coming over, though he gave her more personal space than Ambrose did. She was surprised to note that the Shield member actually looked a little concerned, though Eve was careful not to show the surprise, instead just responding to his question.
"Not exactly. It's a match against Ziggler and AJ-"
"Which means that Langston will be at ringside," Reigns put in, and Eve nodded, though she really hadn't considered the presence of their running buddy as of yet.
"I'm sure you're right."
"You said he didn't put you in a handicap match... or at least, 'not exactly'," Seth Rollins said. "What does that mean?"
"It means he didn't assign me a partner. I have to get someone to team up with me, and if I don't, then it's handicapped. And obviously intergender. I honestly don't know if it's mixed or intergender if I get a partner," she said, then heaved out a sigh. "There's a catch, though. The only people I'm allowed to ask to be my partner are... the three of you."
Ambrose shook his head. "Already playing his games. He expects us to say no. Well, I guess he gets a surprise tonight, then. None of us have a match yet, so you get your pick. You get to choose any of us," the man said, stepping forward as he spoke, once again so close they were practically touching, reminding her of the week before. Ambrose's eyes were on hers, something that looked almost like a challenge in them, and Eve had a feeling that she knew what that was about... That he knew that, of the three of them, he was the one that she was the most afraid of. Rollins was the least intimidating, probably her first choice, especially since it would probably be a good idea if Reigns was out there not as a participant but instead to counteract potential interference by Big E... But she couldn't help but feel that Ambrose would think less of her if she went with Rollins. He thought she was afraid of him and, even if she kind of was, she wanted him to believe that she wasn't.
"Any of you? My choice?" she questioned, and he nodded.
"Any of the three of us would team with you. You just have to pick one," Ambrose said, and Eve took a deep breath, then met his gaze.
"Then I choose you."
