Part Fourteen
As it turned out, Seth Rollins was a good tag team partner... Not that she was really surprised by it. After all, he was a part of the Shield and, even if they hadn't really had matches so far in the WWE - aside from at TLC, anyway - it was clear that the men were a team. And being a part of a team with Ambrose and Reigns apparently translated into being a good tag team partner for her, as well.
The match was mixed, the fact that she'd found a partner meaning that there was no need for it to be intergender, and Rollins matched up well against Dolph Ziggler. Both men were quick on their feet, repeatedly countering and evading one another's moves. And now, as she watched, Seth managed a truly impressive kick, throwing himself into the air and landing a vicious kick to Ziggler's head, sending the other man stumbling... Unfortunately, Dolph went stumbling right into his own corner, allowing AJ Lee to reach out and slap her hand against his shoulder, tagging herself in. In intergender circumstances, the other diva might not have been so quick to tag into the match (or maybe she would... She was a little unbalanced and all.) But logic said that she wouldn't have been so quick to tag in if the match weren't deemed to be mixed... After all, she couldn't know whether Seth would tag Eve in or continue the match himself in an intergender situation. But with the match being mixed? Well, Seth had no choice but to leave the match now.
Stepping back toward the corner she was in, Rollins held out his hand for a tag despite the fact that, technically speaking, there was no need of one. She was supposed to automatically be in the match now that AJ was in. Despite it being nothing but a technicality, Eve still reached out, tagging herself into the match, then ducking beneath the ropes as Rollins stepped out of the ring, Eve quickly side-stepping when AJ tried to rush her before she could even get in. An extra shove sent AJ slamming into the ringpost, and Eve smirked at that, then grabbed a handful of the younger diva's hair and yanked hard, slamming her down onto the mat.
The referee intervened before she could do anything else, yelling at her to stay 'off the hair' and let AJ out of the corner, and Eve held up her hands, careful to step directly on AJ as she stepped out of the corner and into the ring... Standing in the center of the ring, she waited for AJ to get to her feet, only briefly taking her gaze off of her foe, the diva's gaze sliding to ringside for a moment, where Ambrose and Reigns still stood... Reigns was glaring at the other side of the ring, presumably at where Big E was standing, but Ambrose was watching her, the man offering her the slightest of smirks. Eve met his gaze for the barest of moments, then turned her attention back to AJ, not willing to let the other woman get the upper hand because she was distracted, not even for an instant.
As AJ lunged at her, Eve caught her with a drop-toehold, sending the smaller woman to the mat again... then cursing when AJ actually had the nerve to freaking bite her in order to keep from being put into a submission move. Furious, Eve slammed her hand across AJ's face, slapping her hard, and AJ retaliated by more or less throwing herself on top of Eve... Clearly trying to strangle her, her hands coming around Eve's throat. Out of the corner of her eye, Eve could see that Rollins was about to step into the ring to intervene and, not wanting to be the kind of partner that needed to be saved, Eve fought harder against the younger woman's hands... Then suddenly reached up, poking AJ in the eye. When AJ's grip loosened, Eve bucked hard, knocking the other girl off of her, then swung an elbow and hit AJ in the jaw. Twisting around, Eve lashed out, kicking AJ in the head, and sent the other diva sprawling.
Keeping her eye on her opponent, Eve rose up on her hands and knees, then got to her feet, kicking AJ hard in the gut, hard enough that the smaller woman almost flipped over at the impact. Edging around, Eve started to line AJ up for another kick, but then there was suddenly a hand in her hair, a fist yanking her head back... And just as suddenly, it was gone, Seth having come into the ring almost as soon as Ziggler had, the Shield member nailing Ziggler with a clothesline and forcing him to let go of Eve. Roughly, Seth yanked Ziggler to his feet, then tossed him out of the ring, waiting until Dolph was standing again before throwing himself over the ropes, crashing down on top of him and sending both of them to the ground.
Shaking her head, Eve turned her attention back to AJ, who was back on her feet now, the two divas exchanging kicks and blows, Eve absorbing each blow as best she could, all the while keeping an eye out for an opening.
And there it was.
As AJ lunged at her, Eve went with it, letting the momentum send them both into the ropes, hooking her arms around the ropes and stomping her foot down on the back of AJ's leg, sending the woman to her knees, falling forward onto the ropes... Eve quickly using AJ's position against her, putting all her weight across the back of AJ's neck, pressing her throat against the ropes, only stopping when the referee threatened to disqualify her. Stepping back, she allowed AJ to stumble to her feet, and as soon as she was far enough from the ropes, Eve kicked AJ in the stomach, then took her down with a vicious neckbreaker, quickly going for the pin and, a three-count later, earning the win.
But that wasn't the end of it.
Eve let out a scream as someone grabbed hold of her ankle, yanking her beneath the ropes and out of the ring, the diva unable to protect herself as she fell to the hard ground outside the ring. An instant later, there was a flurry of motion above her, and when she looked up, she saw Big E on the ground and Roman Reigns getting to his feet. Apparently, Langston had been the one to yank her out of the ring, and Reigns had retaliated with a spear.
Shaking her head, Eve started to push herself up, surprised when arms came around her, the diva finding herself pulled to her feet, though she was more leaning against the person that had pulled her up than standing on her own, the woman still trying to catch her breath. Slamming against the floor like that had kind of knocked the wind out of her.
"You okay?" Ambrose asked as he looked down at her, and Eve couldn't help it, she tensed slightly as she realized the arms around her belonged to him.
"I'm fine," she told him, turning her head to find Rollins making his way over to them, the man leaving Ziggler in a heap against the steel steps as he came their way.
"Eve-"
"I'm okay," she told him. "And hey, at least we won."
"That we did," Rollins replied, and Ambrose nodded.
"Then let's get out of here," the man said, guiding her over to the barrier, Roman stopping to get her title before he joined them... Ambrose actually lifting her in his arms to get her over the barricade, passing her over to Seth on the other side... Rollins setting her on her feet, then wrapping an arm around her waist as he began to lead her away.
