An old beat up fishing boat had just pulled into the harbor. Two fishermen, brothers, almost indistinct from each except for the cut of their beards, were arguing on the deck. Behind them sat a box bound in chains and covered warnings to all who knew the tongue that this was an evil thing and to cast it away.
"I say we should have thrown it back into the ocean. It has brought nothing but trouble ever since we drug it up," said the fisherman with a large, unkempt beard.
"And I say that it will bring us money! You heard about the American at the museum, yes? He is here looking for old magic. Well, this is old magic; I can feel it in my bones! We sell it to him and we will be free of it with money to spare!" replied his companion, a man whose beard had been trimmed into a neat point.
"Look at it! Look at the runes! The Mark of the Snow Queen herself is among them as part of the warnings! It is a bad thing! If it was helpful, she would not have cast it away! Safer to just throw it out over the side and be done with it," said Unkempt.
Point looked at the box again. He considered his brother's words. He'd never purposefully lead them astray, but Point knew that if they could sell this box they'd be set.
"If we sell it to the American then it is no longer our problem, and we will make money from it! It would be like free money! Come brother, don't be foolish about this. Think of what we could do with some extra money," said Point.
Unkempt was just as aware of how bad their financial situation was as Point was. They owed money to collectors, to the bank, to everyone. Extra money would mean paying them off, or, if not paying them off, it would at least mean that they could keep them off their backs for a little while longer.
"Fine, but I make the sale. You have no poker face. If he buys it, then we take his money, whatever he pays. If he doesn't then we take it back out to sea and cast it away," said Unkempt.
"Deal," said Point.
They pulled up to the dock and made sure to tie off their ship before seeking the American.
" Simon, come quick!" cried Unkempt and Point when they saw him.
Simon Petrikov, a small, dark haired man with a penchant for tweed, jaunted over to them when he heard them.
"Gentlemen! What is it I can do for you?" he asked with a bright smile.
Unkempt pulled out the box. "We found something out at sea that you may want to take a look at," he said, handing the box over to Simon.
He looked the box over for a few moments and his eyes went wide. "That is the personal sign of Queen Elsa! I think … my god, if this is what I think it is, then it could tell us so much!"
Point smiled. "We will sell it to you, no problem, if you have the money for it."
"I'll have to make a few calls, but I think that we can come to an arrangement," said Simon with a sly grin.
