Selyse sat by Lady Melisandre on the edge of the bed as the Red Woman pulled back the sheet which covered Sarah's body. She looked to the festering wound in the girl's stomach which her gown did not cover. The sheets were still blood stained and beginning to smell badly. Stannis remained in the corner of the room, his hand holding his chin as he looked to the two women who observed his daughter's body. His eyes finally found Sarah's closed ones and he looked over her pale face, a moment of regret passing over him. He should never have left her alone on Dragonstone. He should have sent her with Selyse and Shireen.

"I have seen worse wounds, but I have no promises," Melisandre drawled. "We can only ask the Lord of Light to bring her back. Whether he does or not remains to be seen."

"But you will try," Stannis said, the words coming out as a command and not a question. He pushed himself from the wall and sat down in the chair which the Kingslayer had previously occupied. "You told us of Thoros of Myr and the power he possesses."

"He claims to possess no powers," Melisandre said. "He merely asks the Lord of Light for favours and he is granted them. Sarah Baratheon may return to you, but as a shell of her former self."

"As long as she returns," Selyse said and she looked to her husband for his confirmation. Stannis nodded in agreement and rested his hand awkwardly on Selyse's shoulder. The woman looked to his hand and ignored it for a few moments, wondering when her husband had last tried to comfort her. She suspected it had been after her last son had died in her arms.

"It would be for the best if you left me," Melisandre suddenly declared. "I am certain the Lord of Light knows of your longing, but I shall need concentration."

"Aye," Stannis said, doing what Melisandre had asked before he extended his hand to Selyse. She took hold of it and followed her husband from the chamber, her hand in his cold one before they heard the mutterings of Lady Melisandre as she stood over Sarah's body.

...

Ser Davos left Shireen in the care of the innkeeper, the woman feeding her and telling her tales to distract her. The girl continued to look solemn, even as Jaime Lannister was dragged through the tavern and out to the stables, complaining as he went. Davos caught his gaze and he looked to the man who muttered something about dark magic and how it should not be tolerated.

Davos looked to the stairs again, wondering what was happening up there before he decided to go and speak with the one they called the Kingslayer. Davos stood from the bench and ruffled Shireen's hair before moving out of the tavern and around the mud track to the stables, the sight of Jaime Lannister being chained to a stake something he never thought he would see.

"Leave us," Davos demanded the men who had dragged Jaime to the stake.

The Kingslayer remained stood, his jaw firmly set and his gaze narrowed at Davos. He kept his head held high and his orbs evenly set as the two men tried to weigh each other up.

"The Onion Knight," Jaime suddenly mumbled. "I hear that you are still following King Stannis around like a lost little puppy."

"Aye," Davos did not even attempt to deny it. "And I hear that you lost a hand."

"Only to have it replaced with a golden one," Jaime motioned to the hand which sat on his right arm. He kept silent for a moment before tilting his head back, his eyes looking to the ceiling as he closed his orbs and wondered what was happening in the rooms above him. He had no cocky remark to come back with now, knowing that he could only wait before he heard news of what had happened to Sarah.

"They say that you helped the Princesses escape King's Landing," Davos drawled.

"No doubt my own family consider me a traitor," Jaime replied. "And now I spend my time as a prisoner to Stannis Baratheon for trying to save his daughter's life. Tell me, will he take my head sooner or later?"

"Sooner," Davos bluntly replied. "His eldest daughter is dead-"

"-Not for long," Jaime interrupted, looking to Davos with a narrowed gaze. "I never thought I would have the privilege of meeting the Red Woman, but it seems that she may have the power to bring back Sarah."

Davos contemplated his words for a moment, recalling the time he had taken the woman to the cave. He had seen things he never thought possible, but what he had seen in his eyes had not been right. She was using dark magic.

"Can she do that?"

"Possibly," Jaime grunted back, "but what would she come back as? No one can return from the dead...surely...and be how they were...well, no one can return from the dead. I do not think it possible."

"You have not seen what I have seen," Davos spoke and Jaime shook his head.

"I have heard tales," he whispered back. "I have heard of the Lord of Light and the powers which he may possess."

"You do not believe in the Gods?"

"I believe what I see," Jaime replied, "but I do know that the Lord of Light is not one to be trifled with apparently."

"No," Davos muttered back and looked away, contemplating rushing off to tell Stannis not to fall any further into the Red Woman's trap. What did she want in return for bringing his daughter back? What did she truly want in general?

"So is there a reason as to why you are out here conversing with me?" Jaime wondered. "Many people do their best to shun me, but you actively stalked me out here."

Nonchalantly, Davos shrugged back to Jaime, looking around the stable only to realise no horses currently resided inside of it. He moved over the flattened hay before speaking quietly and lowly, realising that what he was about to say would only anger Stannis.

"Why did you help her escape?"

"I helped both of them escape," Jaime responded. "I did it because it was right."

"And you always do the right thing?" Davos asked, his voice laden with irony and he noted a twitch in Jaime's neck as he said it. "King Stannis told me how Princess Sarah had grown close to you during your journey to King's Landing and how you helped her to escape before she reached your sister."

Jaime kept his eyes straight ahead of him, refusing to look straight at Davos.

"What do you want to hear?" Jaime suddenly sniped. "Do you want me to tell you that I have developed a fondness for Sarah Baratheon? Do you want me to tell you how I held her corpse until her father arrived and demanded for me to be arrested?"

Davos nodded his agreement with Jaime as soon as he had heard him say those words. So the Princess Sarah had taken a liking to the Kingslayer, but it seemed he had taken a liking back to her. He had done all that he could to free her from King's Landing, but he had also stayed with her until Stannis arrived, knowing that the rightful King would only punish him for merely being a Lannister.

"Aye, that will do," Davos responded.

"And what do you intend to do with your new found knowledge?" Jaime responded. "I scarcely think Stannis would want to hear how I saved his daughter."

"He will," Davos said.

Before Jaime could question the man, a loud scream echoed through an open window, the noise travelling through the stable. Davos took off with haste, Jaime remaining stood where he was as he glanced around, wondering what could have happened.

Davos moved quickly into the inn, Shireen stood by the bottom of the stairs with the innkeeper next to her and holding her shoulders. Davos continued to move up the steps until he came to the open door at the end of the corridor which had been guarded by two men in armour. Stepping into the room, Davos could scarcely believe what his eyes were seeing.

The Red Woman soon came to stand next to him, her voice low and sultry as she whispered into his ear;

"The Lord of Light is more real than you thought," she spoke. "For the night is dark and full of terrors."

Davos refused to look at her, more concerned with the sight in front of his eyes. Stannis was sat on the edge of the bed, his arm around his daughter as he cradled her against his chest and her mother held onto her waist. But it was only when Davos looked to their daughter did he note the heaving of her chest and the paleness of her eyes. She looked at him before Stannis did the same, a cocky smirk on his face and Davos quickly left the room, unable to believe what he had just seen.

"Sarah...my sweet little girl...my daughter..." Selyse continued to sob and Sarah moved her hands to rest on her mother's shoulder. "You came back to us..."

"What happened?" Sarah wondered

"You had died," Melisandre crooned; her hands in front of her waist. "Your body was a rotting corpse destined for nothing more until the Lord of Light brought you back to the world of the living."

Sarah's mouth gaped and she looked up to her father as Stannis bent down to kiss the top of her head, wondering if she was speaking sense. It was only when she furrowed her brow did she look around the room, realising that she was not on Dragonstone anymore.

"Where are we?" Sarah suddenly asked. "This is not Dragonstone."

Stannis also looked puzzled before Melisandre took the empty seat by her bed, her eyes narrowed as she ran a hand down Sarah's forehead.

"What is the last thing you remember?" Melisandre questioned.

Sarah did her best to remember as her mother sat up straight and took hold of her hands inside of hers, looking to her daughter and forgetting all of the terrible things she had previously done.

"Being on Dragonstone...I was supposed to marry Robb Stark but father demanded for me to return...the King had just died."

Stannis remained in awe along with Selyse, but Melisandre looked nothing of the sort.

"Bringing someone back from death has consequences," she spoke out. "Memories will be lost and scars shall remain. It would not surprise me if she feels different in herself, but I have done what I can. The Lord of Light has listened to my pleas and there is no more to it."

"So you don't remember running away?" Stannis checked and Sarah's orbs widened.

"I ran away?" the shock in her voice was evident. "I would never run away from home, not when I have to do my duty."

"Or being taken by the Lannisters?" Selyse continued. "You are here because you escaped them and they took your life. Do you not remember?"

"No," Sarah answered without another pause.

Selyse hugged her daughter again and Stannis kept silent, his hand stroking through Sarah's limp curls as he knew what he had to do. He had to keep his daughter away from Jaime Lannister before he could spread his own tales. She did not remember her journey with him, nor would she. Stannis would have his head as soon as possible. He would not let his daughter anywhere near that man again, and he swore that on his own life.
