Chapter 52: Light
Elsa POV
We've been wondering through the darkness for what felt like hours. Already we were getting wearing and tired from all the walking. All of our strength was being drained from us. But not just our strength, but also our will and spirit too.
"It's just a little farther…" I heavily breathed as I struggled to keep walking. "Just a little farther…" But everyone stopped in there tracks feeling tired and powerless. But me I was the only one moving.
"It's no good, Elsa…" Kristoff said breathlessly. "None of us can see anything…"
"Whatever this light is you're seeing, we're not seeing it…" Anna added breathlessly too.
"What…?" I breathed in shock and disbelief at what they were saying. "Just look, right over there!" I pointed in the direction of the light I'm seeing. "It's faint but it's shining-" But then at the next second the light faded out. "Huh…?" I stared in shock and disbelief. "N-no…it was… was just…" I was at a loss for words. Anna then collapsed on her knees.
"There's… no way out… is there…" She said looking hopeless and helpless. Suddenly everyone else did the same. They all fell on the knees, even lying down on the sides or backs. They felt helpless, hopeless, and powerless. They all gave up. But not me!
"I won't…die here…! Not…in a place like this…!" I shouted in frustration and determination.
"This would seem to be the end." Said Jack's voice.
"Jack…!" I called out. Jack was nowhere to be seen. He must be communicating through voice or telepathy.
"Elsa, you are the last who remains. It is not too late. Accept the new world. If you shall but accept, your pain shall disappear. You shall yet exist as a component of the new world. This world which casts such a dark shadow over memory shall cease to be. Come, Elsa." Jack offered. "It is not called 'Rest In Peace' for nothing you know. If you and all things accept your deaths, you be released from all the pain, all the anguish. You can forget it all after death. No life in this world will make it quiet and peaceful. THAT is true peace." The grumbled and struggled with my thoughts. I felt so powerless I didn't know what to do. But eventually let out a sigh. Maybe it's time to give in and accept death as a way to be at peace. But then in a strange sense I started… laughing. Yes laughing. Like I just heard the world's funniest joke. "Why do you laugh?" Jack asked with his voice having a hint of confusion.
"I'm not laughing at you, Jack." I smiled sincerely.
"I told you not to use that name." Jack warned me.
"I was laughing at myself. I may have given you a pretty good talking to earlier, but what you said… Well, it almost got to me." I confessed. "The things I can never forget…things I WANT to forget… What if it could be erased…? Wiped clean…? There are times…when I want that." I continued confessing. "But that's just not right."
"What is not right?" He asked again.
"Even if we fail…we can better ourselves so we don't fail again. We're faced with so much pain, heartache, and sorrow…but we can toughen our hearts so that we can bear it. That's how we manage to overcome it all… We can clear a path forward on our own. And at the end of that path…that's where we can find true peace." I explained with such passion in my voice.
"But people are not nearly so wise. They will continue to make their foolish mistakes." Jack retorted. "You know it is true, yet still you will not accept my new world!?"
"No, I won't. It's the one thing I'm not going to let go of." I retorted back. "Jack…I don't believe peace is real unless it's guided by the heart. I know just how precious one's own path is…carved out by one's own hand, walked one step at a time." I explained with such compassion in my voice. I then turned to my friends. "I've met so many people…so many friends… Sometimes they broke my heart, and sometimes they enriched it…held me up, encouraged me to keep moving forward." I then turned back to Jack's voice. "Jack…you're one of those people. Because I love you. I will never stop loving you. Because you enriched my heart…held me up, encouraged me to keep moving forward the most. I will say it as many times as I want or need to. I love you, Jack Frost. I love you so much." I stated with such passion from my heart.
"Never…never utter that name again!" Jack shouted at me with such venom in his voice.
"Jack…"
"I've had enough of your nonsense, Elsa! You can't get out of there, anyway!" Jack retorted.
"No, I can. Because I finally understand." I said smiling. Then like magic the light appeared again. "I know exactly what that light is." I then raised my hand erect and walked towards the light. Then in a flash the light expanded and I soon found myself in a light limbo.
There sitting all alone, curled up into a ball, hugging his knees, was a chibi version of Jack. He looked just like a kid again. He even sounded like one too. He was crying. He looked so sad and lonely. I knew that feeling. I then approached him and knelt down to him.
"Don't cry." I said in a soothing voice. The little chibi snapped his gaze up at me. Tears streaked his eyes and his yes were filled with sadness and loneliness, but also fear. "Don't be scared." I soothed him. I then wrapped my arms around the little chibi Jack and brought him into a warm hug. "You're not alone anymore." I continued soothing him. "Because you have me now. And I love you." Right there, Chibi Jack stopped crying and fell into a comfort sleep in the warmness of my arms.
As the light limbo faded we found ourselves standing right back in the throne room of the Empire State Building once again. I slowly approached Jack. I stopped where I was and stared at him with loving eyes. While he on the other hand stared in wide-eyed shock, fear, and disbelief. I could see his whole body trembling at what he was seeing. We managed to get back.
"I'm so sorry, Elsa." Anna spoke up feeling ashamed. "We didn't…" I turned my attention to them. They were all back at full strength but felt ashamed of them selves. But I smiled at them.
"It's all right." I said smiling sincerely to them. "I always believed in you."
"Why…" Jack stuttered. "How is it that you stand before me?" He asked in shock and disbelief. "How did you manage to return!?" He hissed in demand.
"I saw a light." I simply said.
"A light…you say?" Jack asked in disbelief.
"A small, fleeting light that seemed as if it could go out at any moment." I said. Then I turned back to face him and smiled. "But such a kind one."
"Stop…" I said putting his hand up, covering his face from each other's gaze. "Stop! Do not look at me that way!" He begged.
"That light…" I continued. It guided me, and held me up." I then smiled widely. "I'm glad, Jack. I'm glad your light is still there. Because that light wasn't a light of wantonness. It was loneliness, despair, and sadness, yet it showed me the way unintentionally. But All it needed was a love. And I love you Jack. With all my heart."
"Jack is… Jack is gone! Jack is nowhere!" Jack shouted with rage, hate, and panic.
"Jack…" I said soothing and calming.
"Silence!" He shouted at me. "How…how dare you address me…by that…weakling's name!"
"We'll say it again and again and again!" Anna stepped forth. "Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack!"
"Cease…! Stop…! Halt…!" Jack yelled in panic. "S-stop, please…please…don't…!" Jack screamed and begged while rattling his hands through his black hair. "I am…I am…Jack is not… he is not…not!" He stammered and breathed heavily. "Finally…finally I have the power I craved!" I shouted an insane statement. Suddenly Black Sand and Ice began emitting from his body. Soon a black sandstorm and black blizzard formed around him.
"Jack! Get away from there, quick!" Tooth called out.
"Power to destroy all… Power to conquer irrationality… A world in which no life exists… A world that has finally achieved true piece…" Jack said out loud to himself. He's become completely insane now!
"Jack! No!" I called out to him.
"With that power…I will…I will…I will…I must…destroy…! DESTROY!" Jack then levitated in the air with the black sandstorm and black blizzard swirling around him.
"Oh, no…" Kristoff murmured. "I've got a bad feeling about this."
"He's… changing." Bunny stared in disbelief. The Dark Ice began to take form and substance. The form it was black charcoal scales made of black sand and black ice, Blue ice dorsal spine plates shaped as maple leaves but sharper than a katana blade, and with a roar so loud and mighty it could even breach the heavens. The Black Ice took on the form of the most powerful monster in fictional history. Jack had taken the form of Godzilla! "SSSHREEEONKG!" He roared long and loud. We all stared in wide-eyed horror at what they were seeing. "I…shall create…a uniform world…a vast world of perfect destruction…" He said in a deep, dark, booming, demonic voice.
"Jack…" I stare in horror at what Jack had further become.
"My power…shall never ne exhausted…as long as the strength…of my desire and will remain…"
"Jack…" I said. "You are the kindest person I know. Kinder than anyone else." I explained to him." I then stared in sadness but determination. "But you can't destroy the world! I won't let you! I'm going to stop you!" I declared. "As someone you loves you dearly, I'm going to stop you!"
"I see. Very well." The giant black lizard nodded. "Prove yourself to me, Elsa Arendelle!" He dared in a deep booming voice.
"HERE I AM! JAAAAAAAACK!" I shouted with tears flowing out my eyes me and everyone charged at him.
Jack in his Godzilla form attacked first as the dorsal spines began to glow and emit a humming sound that got louder and louder. We knew what was coming next. Godzilla then took a deep breath and let out a stream of Ice Fire straight at us. But I countered it with my ice magic. Our two waves of attacks were now locked a struggle. Godzilla pushed his stream up another notch while I struggled to block it. But then Tooth came swooping in and managed to distract him.
"Thanks Tooth!" I hollered.
"Anytime, kiddo!"
"Heads up, mate!" Bunny hollered a smirk as he threw his boomerangs at Godzilla. North then jumped up with his swords in hand. Godzilla did the same, with his claws. But North managed to push back Godzilla on force him to the ground. Now the two clashed again only this time Godzilla disarmed him. But Bunny came in and threw his boomerangs. He managed to deflect on, while the other missed. But Tooth grabbed the other and threw it back, hitting Godzilla. I then swooped in and kicked him in the gut with my ice. Sandy wrapped his sand whip around him and reeled him in for nice hard upper cut. Both Kristoff and Anna speeded on in and launched a barrage of fists. We managed to force him back.
"Please stop this!?" I begged. But my words fell on deaf ears. Once again, Godzilla's dorsal spines began to glow and emit a humming sound that got louder and louder. Then he took a deep breath and let out a stream of Ice Fire straight at us. But I countered it with my ice magic once more. Our two waves of attacks were now locked a struggle. "I won't quit!" I shout as I continued struggling against Godzilla's attack. "I know that somewhere deep down in your heart Jack, that there is a light that is still shinning!" I called out through the struggling waves. "I love you Jack with all my heart and I won't stop until I save you!" And with that one final stroke I managed to push back Godzilla Ice Fire Ray. Godzilla himself tried to force us back, but finally reached his limit and we defeated him.
"RRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHH!" Jack screamed in painful agony as his body glowed and exploded in a bright icy blue light. We all stood in shock. The first thing that came to our minds was if we killed him. My fears of that thought raced through me. But when the light dimmed down we saw Jack back to his dark version of himself. Not sure if that's good or bad. But he fell to his knees on all fours. "No…" Jack hissed with disbelief. "Why…?" He whimpered. "This world is disgusting… It must be destroyed…"
"No!" I begged. "You can't just tear it up! It may not be perfect, but nothing is. So you make the best of what you've got!" I explained kindly. But Jack then started to cry. I knew what he felt. He was crying because he failed to destroy the world. "When things go wrong, you have to try and make them right. And you have to keep on trying, no matter how hard it gets. That's what life is all about."
"Life…?" Jack stopped crying as he slowly stared at me, with streaks of tears in his eyes.
"Even when you're alone, you can't give up." I continued. "Sooner or later, someone's sure to come along. I met you, didn't I?" I said sincerely with a smile. "And I met you. I'm apart of you. I love you Jack." I said with a sincere warm smile. "Life's never perfect… It's always changing. Meetings… Farewells… Happy times… Sad times… You take things as they come, and you keep on going. That's just how it is." Jack then went wide eyed in shock but in realization. He then started to continue crying. But his crying was different it was a crying of regret. He felt sorry and wanted to be forgiven. "You're so kind, Jack." I said as I knelt down to him and took both of his hands. "I'm not angry at you Jack." I assured him as he cried. "Both of us were so sad. We both didn't know what to do."
"E-Elsa…" He murmured as he looked at me with those sad eyes.
"I don't need anything else." I said as I placed his hand on me cheek. "Just knowing how you feel is enough." Feeling his cold hand on my cheek gave me a warm feeling. "Jack, let's end this. Let's go home."
"Can we?" He asked with doubt.
"Rest, Jack." I said while bringing him in for a hug. "Rest with me." I hugged him so warmly and tight and he hesitantly hugged me back. I could tell he wanted to feel warm and loved right now. Then I remembered the trick Manny taught me. The trick to ending all of this and saving us all. "I have a song for you." I then turned to Sandy and gave him the signal. Sandy nodded in response as he created a sand orchestra. When they began playing their soft melody I began to sing.
(Listen to Still Dream sung by Renee Fleming)
Time to close your eyes
Overlook the darkness
And try to dream tonight
Not so long ago
Your world was bright
So take a breath and count to ten
And maybe you can dream again
Still dream, and all the wonder that you knew
Will all come flying back to you
If you remember all the hope you left behind,
Open up your heart and change your mind
Oh, what you'll find if you still dream
Fly away, beyond the moon
A place you've been before
Castles made of sand,
A golden shore
And every wish you ever made
is marching in a dream parade
Dream, and dream again!
Do you remember building bridges in the air
Every hope you had and every prayer
They're all still there if you dream
Oh what you'll find if you dream!
Time to close your eyes
But when you awake,
Still dream
Jack stared at me with awe. I could tell he was at a loss for words. I smiled back at him. I then started to notice the black sands slowly disappearing. They were vanishing for good this time. I placed both my hand on his cheeks gracefully and stared deeply into his eyes.
"I love you, Jack. And with that I kissed him. He was shocked at first but then he melts in the moment. We can hear the Evolving Black Sands screaming in agony as they vanished back to nothing. They've been completely defeated. Their evolution finally reached its limit. We broke off of our kiss and looked at each other. Jack was back to normal. I saved him.
"E-Elsa…" He said to me with sadness and regret. "I'm… sorry. I am… so sorry." He cried.
"Shh." He cooed him. "It's all right."
"So… we did it." Anna said.
"Yes." North nodded and breathed. "It's over."
"Thank goodness." Tooth sighed in happy relief. But then we noticed something else. We then went wide-eyed in awe.
"J-Jack…" I said. "You're… You're hair…" Jack then felt his hair. Then he felt his chest.
"I… I have heart beat." He speculated. "Then… I'm…"
"Jack… You're human again!" I said in awe. I then smiled as tears formed in my eyes. "Oh Jack!" I hugged him again and cried happy tears.
"I'm… human…" Jack said in disbelief. Everyone was really happy as they cried happy tears.
"I'm so happy they're back together." Anna cried and giggled.
"You and me both sister." Tooth did the same. Kristoff hugged Anna close. North, Sandy, and Bunny all just smiled. They felt proud of my accomplishment. But then suddenly our surroundings started to fade and change.
"What the…" Anna looked around.
"What's happening?" Kristoff frantically looked around. We all looked around and found our selves in… outer space?
"What is this place?" North looked around.
"Remain calm everyone." Said the calm and soothing, but familiar voice. Then a light shown out of nowhere. Following that was a short and stout fat mat. He wore a white tuxedo and looked like he was in his 40's. We all recognized that voice and figure. Tsar Lunar XII. The Man in the Moon had shown up. "Hello everyone." He said smiling.
