Chapter twenty-eight: Promises

Davenport's P.O.V.

I watch my two sons on the small medical bed. Standing by the door I give one last look and see Adam comforting Chase as best as he can. I shake my head in disapproval but leave anyway.

As I make my way up stairs I stop shortly. It was a mistake because as soon as I stop I get bombarded with questions.

"What happened?" Bree asks.

"Is the baby okay?" Leo questions.

"What is going on here?" Tasha says with a hand on her hip.

"The baby and Chase are fine now run along you two," I respond to the first two questions.

They sigh a breath of relief and leave displeased with no more than reassurance. Tasha looks at me waiting for an answer. I sit on the couch and let my head drop in my hands ashamed. Tasha sighs and takes a seat next to me.

"What's wrong?" She asks after I don't answer.

"I don't know how to do this..." I mumble.

"Do what?"

"Accept Adam and Chase...together," I answer.

"Why not?"

"Because they're both guys! They are both my sons! They are related for crying out loud!" I shout.

"Donald," she begins.

"No Tasha, I can't accept this...but I have to...Chase is...is pregnant with his brother's child!"

"I know it's hard...but you're going to be a grandfather...aren't you happy?" She asks.

"How can I? It is even illegal on top of it! Adam is eighteen and Chase...he barely turned sixteen. He's sixteen and pregnant! My son! My prodigy!" I shudder.

"Well it's too late and I suggest manning up," she huffs angrily.

"Tasha," I call out.

"You said you were going to try, you said you'd become more involved, you promised Chase his happiness. All this changed because what? He's pregnant? Do me a favor and sleep in the guest room tonight... or until you get your head out of the gutter," she glares.

With that she leaves me more than shocked

"...but the guest room only has a sofa chair...not even a couch," I complain.

Eddie pops up on the screen.

"I told you, you should have ran when you had the chance...but for once I agree with the grizzly bear," he says before disappearing.

Chase's P.O.V.

"Adam?"

"Yeah?"

"Can we go to our room?" I ask.

He stares at me a bit incredulous.

"Please?" I plea with my puppy eye look.

"Fine, but we'll take it easy, okay?"

I smile and my green-hazel eyes light up. He gets up and offers his hand to help me up. I wince a bit as my body aches in protest.

"Are you sure?" Adam asks.

I nod slightly and try to give him an assuring smile. He grabs my hand with one of his own. The other is placed at the small of my back for support. We take small steps and stop from time to time.

"You're doing so well, we're almost there," he encourages.

Once we arrive at the living room entrance we stop. My hand goes to rest on my abdomen unconsciously. Who would have thought that twenty-four hours ago I didn't even know of the tiny life within me.

"Is something wrong? Are you okay?"

I shake my head no, "just tired...Give me a sec."

He smiles and nods. And then we hear Mr. Davenport shouting. Each word he confides to Tasha pierces and stings my heart. My eyes grow wide in shock and realization as Tasha leaves.

"...but for once I agree with the grizzly bear," I hear Eddie say.

Mr. Davenport turns to the entrance where me and Adam stand.

"Chase," he starts.

His eyes grow as wide as mine like a deer caught in headlights.

"M...Mr. Davenport? I ask.

My voice shakes and my body trembles.

"Chasey take a deep breath," Adam instructs.

"O...our b-baby...is...u-unwanted," I choke.

"Ssh it's okay I got you," Adam whispers.

"Our baby Adam," I cry.

"Chase," Mr. Davenport says softly.

I back away as he takes a step toward me. Adam growls next to me warning Mr. Davenport to back off.

"He won't hurt you," Adam promises.

"Please Chase," he begs.

I cling to Adam like he's my life line. Adam picks me up and carries me the rest of the way to our room. Before we leave he stops to glare at Mr. Davenport, "you promised...dad."

I press my body closer to his and hold on tight. Adam holds me just as tight but carefully. My worst fears coming to life. Suddenly I feel like a five year old scared. We arrive at our room and Adam closes the door behind us. He lays me back down gently.

"Is going to be alright," he assures.

"No Adam...we're going...to put...our baby up for...for a-adoption...a-and we won't see him or her ever...and I can't live like that Adam," I sob.

"Ssh I know but we won't have to I promise," he whispers.

"How do you know? Adam, babies are a lot of money..." I inform matter-of-factly.

"Our 'dad' is a billionaire," he reminds.

"And what if he won't help? What if he won't give us our allowance? I can't have a baby if I can't provide for it," I reply.

"Whoa you're not thinking of...terminating the pregnancy right?" He asks angry.

"I couldn't...and I wouldn't...adoption...it's the only way for him or her to grow happy with everything we can't give," I sniffle.

"No. We're keeping our baby...we're going to be a family and screw Mr. Davenport," he gnarls.

"I'm terrified...I...don't want to be alone," I whimper.

"You're not alone...you have me and our peanut has uncle Leo and aunt Bree," he smiles.

"I'm a freak," I mutter.

"No you aren't...now come on let's sleep," he says before crawling next to me.

He turns off the light and pulls me close. Mg back is against his chest. His hands rest on or baby and mine on top.

"You won't leave me right?" I ask drowsy.

"Never," vows.
