Chapter Thirty-nine: Thank you
Chase's P.O.V.
I encircle the bleeding wound on his chest until my bloodied hand interlocks with his robotic one.
"Marcus," I cry hoarsely, tears falling freely.
This wasn't supposed to happen. The tears fall splattering on the ground like the droplets of Marcus's blood. I can hear Adam and Bree fighting Krane and Leo trying to help with Mr. Davenport.
"W-why?" I choke.
He gives a weak smile.
"We met in the explosion after I 'died' and you still let me go...you Chase not the other person...not your commando app," he coughs more blood up.
"And...I ...I realized you were more of a family than anyone...you guys...cared back when you were oblivious to my plans you still accepted me...to Douglas Davenport I was nothing but an android used to destroy," he continues breathing labored.
"I wish I had a family like yours...wish that I hadn't hurt you or anyone...wished that I could've been saved like Mr. Davenport saved you and the others. Wished I had a dad that cared."
"Marcus.." I whisper.
"And promise to take care of the baby...you and Adam will be wonderful parents...just don't...don't forget to mention uncle Marcus," he says softly, eyes drooping low.
His eyes turn black void of any life. Yet a small smile graces his deathly pale features. His hand slips out of my grasp and I can't help the strangled cry that escapes. If it wasn't for him this would've been me and my baby. His change of heart got him here. He had a choice to continue hiding many months ago but he didn't...He chose death over life.
"Happy birthday to that pathetic robot," Krane sneers.
"Don't," I mutter angrily.
"What's that pretty girl?" He laughs.
"Shut up you asshole! You just killed our brother!" Bree yells.
"Please," he scoffs.
Adam punches him on the face.
"He wanted to kill me. I wanted to kill him...I almost did but I'm glad I didn't because to you he may be a piece of trash but to us he was our brother... he saved me and my lover. I won't let you trash talk him because the coward here is you and only you," Adam defends.
I can feel the baby move inside me clearly feeling my distress.
"Ssh baby," I soothe but it doesn't help.
This wouldn't have happened if...if I wasn't so weak. If it wasn't for me.
"Stop," I cry hoarsely as they continue fighting.
Bree runs around Krane trying to distract him as Adam gets ready to shoot him furious, angry, and hurt. But they are all sent flying to the brick walls including Mr. Davenport and Leo.
"Please don't," I beg my hand resting on my baby bump.
Spike's P.O.V.
Angry doesn't begin to explain how pissed I am. Yeah sure I wanted to kill the guy but the fear coursing through Chase's veins and the anger just fuels me until I snap.
"Fuck off, you bigot ego centric freak I mean you got nothing going for you," I shout in my usual deep raspy voice.
That bastard looks confused. I use this to my advantage and throw the dumpsters at him. He grins and catches them easily but tumbles a bit back. I throw a near by car next, probably Davenport's but I don't care whatsoever. This time he falls back to the ground.
"I'll make sure you go to hell," I promise.
I step on his chest fist clenched at my side. I see a flash of confusion and maybe some fear. I feel satisfaction but immediately stop.
"Stop Spike!" Adam yells.
I turn to glare at him but my grip doesn't weaken. This isn't about Chase anymore...this is about revenge because believe it or not Marcus saved me from that wreckage on Christmas. It's time to pay my debt back. And suddenly I feel it. The innocent life within this body.
"You're no better than him if you do this," Davenport says.
Those words sting. He made me in the image of Chase's protector. But I know he's right if I kill this pathetic excuse of a man then I'm no better. So I let go.
Adam's P.O.V.
I watch as Chase cries. My heart stopping. He knew all along it was Marcus. And to a certain extent I did too. I watch him mourn the loss of our brother...He might have been an android but he was family. Someone else other than this creep that knew what it was like to grow up like this. And then I watch as my Chasey turns to angry Spike and back again. He turns to face me, hazel eyes filled with so much sadness it hurts. And then he starts to sway. I'm by his side in an instant.
"He's dead," he croaks.
"I know baby," I whisper voice thick.
"He shouldn't have died," he whispers.
"Not like this," I agree solemnly.
He leans heavily on me, relying his weight.
"It's my fault," he blames.
"No it's not," I soothe.
Bree helps Leo and Mr. Davenport get up and Krane makes a hasty escape. I pick up Chase easily who's too weak from all the emotions.
"Come home," Mr. D asks.
I nod and watch as he gently carries Marcus's limp body. I avert my gaze because that could've been Chase if it wasn't for him.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you," I say guiltily.
If his death weighed over my shoulders before when he was evil it's worse now that he saved both my lover and child.
"It's my fault," he mumbles sleepily.
I carry him to our apartment making it back ten minutes later and place him on the bed. I start packing our little belongings. We're going home but at what cost? As I turn to face Chase I hear him whimper but he's fast asleep. I'm debating on letting him rest or going home as soon as possible. I make up my mind when Chase's nightmare gets worse.
"I'm sorry," he mumbles sitting up and rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
"We're going home," I inform.
"We are?"
"Krane knows where we are...there's no point in hiding," I reason.
He nods slowly.
"What now?" He asks throat tight.
"Now we focus on protecting you...this won't end here I promise we'll get Krane," I vow.
He pulls me closer to his side hugging me tight.
"...I was terrified..." He sighs.
"It's wrong but I can't help feel relieved," I admit.
He buries his head in the crook of my neck. I can feel him nod in agreement.
"Our baby will definitely know uncle Marcus," he whispers.
"We'll make sure," I smile sadly.
"..you and Adam will be wonderful parents..."
His final words echo through my head. All I can think of is responding, thank you.
