ENTRY 7
CAMPFIRE CONFESSIONS
"How's the ankle?" I asked Bella. As much as I hated that she'd twisted her ankle, it gave me the chance to steal a little alone with her by the campfire. Darkness was closing in around us, and everyone else had gone in search of more firewood.
"Oh umm, it's okay." She looked down, fiddling with a string hanging from the rip in her jeans.
I didn't get the reasoning behind buying jeans that were already torn up, but I couldn't deny the way the pair Bella had on hugged her ass perfectly, and made me want to rip them right off of her. We'd been dancing around this undeniable chemistry burning between us for months and I was ready to do something about it.
"So—" we said simultaneously, causing us both to laugh.
"You first," I insisted.
She blew out a long breath and looked nervous to say whatever it was on her mind. "I have a confession to make," she said softly.
My forehead wrinkled in confusion. "A confession?"
"My ankle is fine," she quickly blurted out.
"I'm sorry, what?" I asked to be sure.
"Look." She raised her leg and started rotating her foot every which way with complete ease. No sign of pain at all. In fact, I noticed it didn't even look swollen at all like it should.
"I see," I said, not sure how else to respond and hoping she'd elaborate further.
"Sooooo um, I like you, Edward. And your sister knows it. She helped me think up this hair-brained scheme to get a little alone time with you so I could tell you."
She glanced up at me through the curtain of her hair that had fallen around her face, waiting for my reaction. I reached over and plucked the thumb she was chewing on out of her pouty mouth.
"Tanya had you fake a hurt ankle so you could be alone with me?"
"Yes." She stood and started to pace. Her ankle was indeed fine. "Shit, I didn't think this through!" she cried in a panic.
"Hey." I stopped her panicked stampede by grabbing her hand and pulling her down into my lap. "I like you too, Bella. A lot," I confessed.
A wide smile slowly spread across her face. "Good. I'm glad."
"I'm actually really impressed. Also rather turned on by it." Her eyes sparkled as I leaned a little closer. "Now I can finally do this."
Cupping the back of her head, I closed the distance between us. Without another word my lips were on hers, moving together slowly at first. Kissing her felt natural, right. Like I'd done it a million times before. When I swept my tongue across her bottom lip asking for more, she immediately granted it. We were lost in our kiss, our tongues tangling together. Nothing else existed around us.
Until the sound of my sister's voice broke our trance. "Pay up, bitches. Told ya they were gonna hook up this weekend."
