Chapter Forty-Two: Miserable
Adam's P.O.V.
I try to fight against myself as my grip around Chase's neck tightens. I feel my self control slipping further away as the power amplifies. Someone burst in from the door but my eyes lock on Chase. He's pale and trembling from fear. His hands try to push me away but it's impossible.
"Please...don't k-kill our baby Krane," he gasps.
Though it's my hands on his neck. Though it's me who's hurting him. He doesn't blame me. Instead he begs to Krane to let our baby live. Our baby.
That snaps me from my Triton App mode. I instantly let go of Chase. He gasps for the air to enter his lungs until he coughs harshly. I see the angry red marks that cover his soft porcelain skin. My eyes grow wide and I'm disgusted at myself.
"What did I do," I say shocked.
"A-Adam?" His voice shakes.
"Oh god," I turn around away from those hazel eyes.
I know that it wasn't me...I couldn't control it. But the thought that I still did it stings. Hurts. I feel betrayed by my own hands.
"A-Adam th-this isn't your fault," he whispers.
He reaches to touch me but I pull back.
"Adam please," he says.
I ignore his concerned words and begin to grab some clothes.
"What are you doing?" He asks.
He takes the clothes away from my hold. I stare at him apologetically and begin packing again.
"Where are you going?" Chase asks urgently.
"Can't be here." Are the first words I speak.
"Adam please don't go! It wasn't you. Adam!" He desperately calls but the door closes between us. I can hear his heart wrenching sobs but I don't look back. My throat tightens but I can't be with him when I almost killed them both. There's too much at stake right now.
Leo's P.O.V.
As soon as Bree backs off I stumble out the way. When big D told me to help Chase I didn't think twice. As I draw closer I can hear Chase talking. I hear shuffling and a few words from Adam. Then I see Adam himself exit from the door looking utterly miserable. I can hear Chase crying practically begging Adam not to go. Adam looks down at his hands that are shaking.
"I'm so sorry Chasey," he whispers before walking down the hall with a bag full of some clothes in it.
I walk into the room to find Chase on the floor crying. I do a one over and notice that he's not gravely hurt. But I do notice the red marks turning bluish-purple. I kneel down in front of my pregnant brother and place my hands on his shoulders. When he doesn't seem to stop I engulf him in my too skinny arms.
"It's okay, you're both safe," I assure.
"I-it wasn't him! H-he d-didn't mean to! It wasn't him!" He hiccups tears steadily falling.
"He knows-"
"Then why did he leave? He can't leave!"
I hug him tighter.
"He doesn't want to hurt you. He knows that you don't blame him but he blames himself for this," I try to reason.
"He'll be back...He just needs time," I continue.
Chase nods weakly.
"Com'on let's get you to bed. I'm not able to carry you anymore," I tease.
"You never carried me," he points out waking toward the bed.
"Thank goodness for that," I joke.
He slips under the covers and his teary eyes droop.
"Thanks," he mumbles before completely closing them.
Bree's P.O.V.
Leo enters the lab moments after Adam did. We both look miserable after finding out what exactly happened. As far as I'm concerned this was all Mr. Davenport's fault and his brother's. What really matters to me is that no one got hurt except for Douglas. I had rounded him and gave him a piece of my mind. He's now tied up in the chair nearby.
"Are you sure?" Adam asks for the tenth time.
"Yes and again I'm sorry this is my fault," Mr. Davenport assures.
Completely your fault, I think.
"Sure 'bout what?" Leo asks.
"Our Triton App has just been uninstalled," I say.
"Great," Leo smiles.
"So this is the creep?" Owen asks.
I nod.
"I may be a creep but she's still my daughter," Douglas argues.
"As if," I reply rolling my eyes at the man.
"A father isn't the...creator for lack of a better word. A father is the person who has watched them grow, mature, and learn. Someone who provides love and care not people who uses them for their own personal device," Owen adds.
Douglas huffs annoyed but didn't continue.
"Thank you Owen," Mr. Davenport smiles.
"Yeah thanks," I echo.
"But you get near Bree, hurt her, or I find out that I'm going to be a grandfather again I will end you," he threatens.
"Mr. Davenport!" I scold blushing.
"Yes sir!" Owen gulps.
"Don't listen to him," I say apologetic.
"I'll be your eyes and ears," Leo promises Mr. Davenport.
I glare at Leo, "good luck having quality time with Janelle."
He glares right back and we're both in a staring contest.
"Anyway how's Chase?"
Leo stops and turns to reply, "exhausted, he just fell asleep."
"Adam-"
"I'm staying in the room of the opposite side of the mansion," he interrupts.
We all stare at him in disbelief.
"But what about Chase?" I ask.
"I love him...I wouldn't leave him...but I have hurt him...I need some time," he answers.
We all agree understanding where he stands.
"For now we wait and stand our ground for this creep to show up," he continues.
"Do you need any help?" Owen asks.
Mr. Davenport smirks and has a mischievous gleam in his eyes. Then out of nowhere both disappear.
"Oh great," I say sarcastically.
"You don't know that! It could be bad," Adam says misunderstanding my tone.
"Why am I still here?" I ask no one.
"You live here," Adam replies.
"Sometimes I wonder if we're really related," I sigh resigned to my life of doom.
