Chapter Forty-Seven: Welcome Home
Leo's P.O.V.
Bree and I wait outside the a ER in the lab. We can hear Chase scream in pure pain. It sounds terrible.
"That sounds painful," Bree comments.
I shudder in agreement.
After a moment of curses and screams it goes silent. And that terrifies me more. I look at my mom who had come out a while ago. We can only hear shuffles and whispers. A minute or so passes and then we hear the wails of a newborn.
"I'm an uncle," I grin.
"And I'm an aunt," Bree gasps.
"I'm too young to be a grandma," my mom giggles.
Big D walks out the ER in ridiculous green scrubs with Dr. Davenport printed on the back. I roll eyes at his outfit. That is until I see all the blood on the front. My eyes grow wide in shock.
"We had a bit of trouble-"
"Trouble? What trouble?" I demand.
"Don't worry, both father and daughter are fine," he assures smiling brightly.
"That's good," my mom sighs relieved.
"Wait. Daughter? It's a girl?" I ask.
He nods proudly.
"That's wonderful!" Both women squeal.
"Great, I'm deaf now," I joke smiling.
Bree hits the back of my head.
"Can we go in?" She asks eagerly.
"Later. Not now. Chase is exhausted after 18 hours of labor and the baby needs to get accustomed to the world outside her protective space," Big D answers.
"Let's go and sleep. It's very late and you have school tomorrow," my mom agrees.
"But-" Bree begins.
"No buts, young lady," Big D interrupts.
"You won't make Adam go right?" I ask concerned.
He should be able to stay beside Chase and their baby.
"No, he's staying. I already called principal Perry and his work. He's free for a month. Surprisingly enough, his boss likes him so he's offered three months off," he smiles.
"Alright I guess we'll go, it's already 2 a.m." I leave satisfied.
Chase's P.O.V.
"Adam," I poke him.
"Mmm?"
"The baby-"
"The baby?" He sits up immediately. Wide awake now.
We hear soft whimpers from the bassinet next to the bed. He smiles as soon as he hears her. He gets up and walks over to it.
"Hey there pretty girl," Adam coos.
"She slept a lot," I note.
"What time is it?" He asks.
"Almost 7," I answer.
"She's fussy," he says picking her up.
"She's probably hungry," I smile sitting up.
I reach out for our baby girl smiling happily. Adam hands her to me carefully. She snuggles closer to my warmth.
"Just like you," Adam chuckles.
"She has a bit of you too. Especially when she eats," I smile.
He sits beside us watching as she starts feeding.
"Please don't watch," I mumble embarrassed.
"Chase," he sighs.
"It's weird..." I shrug blushing.
"You didn't have a problem with me watching last night," he points out.
"I was in pain and she was hungry," I reply nonchalantly.
"You're still in pain," he glares.
I try to shift but wince and that just proves his point. I start to tear up feeling useless.
"Hey, hey baby. What's wrong?" He hugs us.
The baby starts to feel my distress and tries to cuddle closer. She shuffles in my arms.
"Baby boy," he whispers.
"'m sorry," I hiccup.
"Hey it's okay."
"Stupid hormones," I mutter.
He wipes my tears away and kisses my chapped lips.
"I love you okay?"
"Okay," I smile sadly.
Adam's P.O.V
I almost forgot how sensitive Chase is, even after giving birth. His body is still trying to adjust with all the changes. I hold him tight in an embrace to reassure him.
"Everything that's happening to you is for our baby," I say.
"I know," he sighs calming down.
"She felt your distress," I notice.
"She was in me for 9 months..." He replies.
I peck his cheek.
"And she's beautiful. We need to name her," I answer.
"...I want it to be something that's meaningful," he says softly.
"Meaningful?" I repeat.
He merely nods too shy and embarrassed.
"Something that means us," I grin.
He looks at me unsure. I then look at our little girl and smile.
Not ten minutes later and Bree bursts in with Leo, Tasha, and Mr. D behind.
"Ok I do not need to see my brother breast feeding his baby," Leo comments grossed out.
Instinctively Chase moves closer to my side wincing. He holds her close as she finishes her "meal".
"It's normal," Mr. D smiles.
"It is?" Bree asks.
"Yes. Any guy can lactate, they just need the oxytocin hormone but we have a Y chromosome that doesn't release it...however Chase's DNA was altered. So now he has a permanent functioning uterus and is now releasing those hormones. So please use a condom whenever you decide to have sex," he explains.
We all stare at him. I look at him completely flabbergasted and confused. But I can still feel myself turning tomato red and Chase is flushed.
"Anyway...can I hold her?" Bree asks excitedly.
Chase looks at me a bit nervous. This is the first time someone else holds her aside from Mr. D, Chase, and I. Reluctantly he hands her over but he monitors every move.
"She gorgeous, Chase!"
"Thanks," he smiles shyly.
"I helped too," I add with a pout.
Everyone laughs.
"Welcome home princess," Mr. D says turning into a mushy ball.
"So what's her name?" Tasha asks curiously cooing at her over Bree's shoulder.
I look toward Chase. He gives a small nod and a knowing smile. I turn back and my eyes are set on the little white bundle in my sister's arms.
"Audrey Sophia Davenport."
