Alice carried on walking down the winding stone path, followed by the silent white rabbit. Then she came upon something which unsettled her more than anything she had seen yet.

Thrown on the ground was a battered, dirty, torn old hat.

Alice ran over to it and picked it up carefully. She traced her finger round the rim of the hat and slid the pieces of ribbon through her fingers. She brushed down the hat, trying to make it look at least a little more presentable, before placing it delicately on her head.

'Where is he?' Alice asked sternly. McTwisp stared at her in shock, his blue eyes wide open, so Alice could almost see the horror that he had witnessed. She swallowed hard and the rabbit was speechless. He snapped out of his stare and looked to the ground. Alice was dreading his reply, but something inside her urged her to have hope. The feeling was familiar. It had given her the bravery to defeat the Jabberwocky. It had given her the willpower to carry on her father's work. It had made her the woman she had become. Because inside, Alice knew she was growing up, and she still thought that Underland would be there for her whenever, even when she became an adult.

'He's with the White Queen. And the Tweedles. And the Cat. And the hare. And Absolem.'

Alice breathed a sigh of relief. She always trusted the feeling she got when her heart gave her hope. This was the only feeling Alice truly trusted. It had got her through so much and she wasn't going to give up hope just because of what had happened while she was away. She started walking in big strides along the path, determined. This was her moment to make her big entrance back into Underland. If they still accept her…
