Chapter 2

Spider threads caught at her face, a sign that no-one had been there yet, not since Gran's passing. The attic was full of boxes and chests, the thick dust that covered every surface making it hard to breathe, but she wasn't leaving. Her grandmother had left her a letter with instructions to come and take all her books away - books she had collected her whole life, and cherished almost as much as her family, - and she wouldn't delay this task any longer. Jane Potter had inherited her grandmother's name (her middle name, anyway) as well as her love of books, and she could only imagine what literary wonders Gran had kept here.

A quick Scourgify cleaned the visible mess, and now all she had to do was find where exactly had the books been stored. Jane opened the closest box, and Jackpot!, it was filled with them. Old, yellowing pages inside thick, somewhat degraded covers, that characteristic smell reminding her of the woman who would be sorely missed. As a single tear fell from her eyes, she opened the first book of the pile, gasping at what she saw. There, in blue ink against the page, was her Gran's handwriting. Flipping through the pages, it was actually a big handwritten book, numerous pages filled with the words of a woman who had loved intensely, who had been loved passionately, who had died just hours after her soulmate, holding his hand with a seren smile on her lips. Jane turned back to the front page, tracing the letters one by one with her fingers, as she re-read the title of the treasure she had just found:

"Harmony - the story of us. By Hermione Jane Granger Potter"
