Chapter 15
The thunder storm that rolled in, over night, bringing down Trees and closing schools and businesses for the day, left most of the residents of Tree Hill feeling water logged. Several bridges around town were closed because the river or creek beds under them were swollen to peak levels, some even coming up and cutting off roads completely effectively cutting the town in two.
Living by the beach hadn't been any better, both Nathan and Clay had braved the storm when the wind and lightening seemed to be at its lowest to bring in or tie down what was left outside. The beach at the end of both their back yards looked nothing like it normally did, the waves now at times lapping at their lawns the sand having washed away over night from the wild weather.
Haley had been sitting in the kitchen at the breakfast bar trying to mark a few English paper's for both her sixth and seventh grade classes; the constant downpour that not only echoed off the roof, but kept a consistent drum like rhythm on every window in the house was making it extremely hard for her to concentrate on what she was doing. Looking up when she heard the door that connected the rest of the house to the garage open smirked seeing her husband and sisters boyfriend, try to unsuccessfully sneak further inside, while both still dripping wet.
"As much as I love both of you, there is no way in hell that I am letting either of you get any further than what you are now"
"But Hales I'm cold!" Nathan said his teeth starting to chatter as he stood there, water droplets falling from his hair.
"Stay, both of you, I'll get you some towels and clothes to change into. I do not need either of you making my carpets smell. Now stay." Haley packed up what she had been doing, resigned to the fact she wasn't actually going to get any work done today before heading upstairs.
Nathan watched as she walked away, knowing that internally she was curing the storm, probably for the ten thousandth time, in the last twelve hours. She used to love them, when they first left; she would sit there for hours watching the lightening and how it came down in different ways. But one thing that they had come to learn was that bad things always happened when it rained. His uncle had this uncanny ability to take something one of them loved and making them hate it. The first time he had tried to do something to them, had been through a storm. He had seen how freaked out that made Haley and ever since then had been doing something to them even if it wasn't him directly in every major storm since.
"Hey Nate, I heard Haley muttering as she was trying to get some work done about how much-
"Dan" Nathan jumped in before his sister in law could finish she was sitting at one end of the coffee table while Jamie was at the other. They were playing a board game that had gone on for longer than they had expected it to. Quinn had first suggested it when Jamie had come down stairs complaining to Haley that he couldn't hear the movie he had been trying to watch in his room over the rain and thunder.
"We'll have to deal with him some time, and the longer we leave it, I hate to say it but the more time he has to plan something. Although I've no doubt in my mind that our mothers are planning something as well, I do not think, that is a good idea especially since they are still trying to mend their broken friendship. Don't get me wrong I'm glad they are mending it; and that they want to after all this time. I just wish that they wouldn't put all that energy into something that could potentially get them hurt. Neither of them know this side of my Uncle very well; I just don't want them getting hurt, and They're like Haley and Brooke were when we were kids, always planning something huge." said Nathan knowing he had caught his wife's attention as she came back down the stairs with four towels and a set of warm clothes for both men.
"What about Brooke and I" Haley asked, handing each of them two towels, and once they had dried off enough to change, she then handed Clay a pair of track pants and a sweatshirt then pointing out where he could go get changed.
"Nate was just saying that, we will have to soon deal with Dan, and that his mum and ours were probably planning something; and how that wasn't a good thing because they can be just like you and Brooke, and that it could backfire on them"
"Well how we used to be, I really hope Peyton could get through to her. I just- I've known for years that Dan is an A.S.S.H.O.L.E but to go that low. Even I couldn't have seen that one coming. I do agree with Nathan though it's best not to tempt fate, and as much as I love the fact that they don't want to kill each other because I honestly thought they would want to take a swing at each other, I don't want them messing around with Dan either."
It was almost dusk, when Dan decided to take a walk through the quite streets of his home town, no one dared to come outside, not in this deluge. No one was that crazy, no one but him. He liked the rain, and the wind and lightening didn't faze him at all he liked walking in it, more than anything he liked how it allowed him to watch people without their knowing. He'd been doing it for years and the only people to ever catch him out where Nathan and Haley. He guessed that was because they had been wearier of him, they knew what he was really like, so they were more aware then the people here had been; but now they were back he and he had to deal with that some how. They had gone against the agreement, so now someone would have to pay. It probably wouldn't happen tonight but he would make sure that eventually, Nathan and Hadies knew that the price they had put on their friends and families heads would be paid; he'd make sure of that. Walking down the road he, didn't notice the car till he saw the headlights turn right towards him, at first he thought it was someone just playing with him, but when they didn't serve and sent him flying up over the hood he knew that it had to be someone one he had pissed off sometime in the last few years. He could say months but who was he kidding he had pissed off a lot of people, it could be anyone. As he landed back on the road he watched as the back lights of the car drove off not even thinking to stop. Yes this was payback for something he had done.
