Disclaimer: I own nothing, nor can I predict the future of the MCU

Author's note: Hi again! I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter. The spoiler I almost let loose last chapter is revealed in this one, so keep your eyes peeled. I'll tell you at the end in case you miss it. Thank you all so much! Now, onward!

Chapter two

The door of the police box creaked opened, and a thick cloud floated out. Soon after, two figures stumbled out, both coughing and sputtering. One was male, the other female, and both were shrouded by the smoke.

"The TARDIS should be fine," the man said. "But we ought to empty out all this smoke."

"Doctor, where are we?"

At the sound of the woman's voice, Steve almost dropped his shield. No, it couldn't be...

"Somewhere in the early to mid 21st century," the man replied. "Funny thing we should end up here."

"What?"

"It's a wibbly wobbly, timey wimey thing. I'd brace myself if I were you. Oh, I'd be shaking in my bow tie."

"Brace myself for what?"

"Someone you've missed for a long, long time. Someone you'd think would be a dead man by now."

"Really, Doctor? Have you any idea how many friends and allies I've lost?"

"Don't ever assume I don't. I've lost more than you could imagine. But this one's a doozy."

Steve heard a strange mechanical whirring noise, and a small green light shone through the smoke.

"And found faster than expected. Well then. Peggy, my dear, brace yourself."

Peggy... no.

Steve took a deep breath and stepped out of his hiding spot. He just couldn't stand it any longer.

"Peggy?"

Sure enough, there she stood. Peggy's face, the beautiful face he never thought he would see again on earth stared back at him. Her strong, sparkling brown eyes, still as stubborn as ever, and her face framed by the same, chocolaty curls. Her lip quivered.

"Steve?"

"Told you it'd be a doozy. I'll be in the TARDIS, then."

"Steve, is that really you? No, it-it couldn't be."

"Peggy..." He had given her up and watched her die. She was right- It just couldn't be...

Tears began to form in Peggy's eyes. Before either knew what was happening, they had enveloped each other in a warm embrace.

"You're late."

"I couldn't call my ride," Steve said. "Besides, I wouldn't leave my best girl. Not when she still owes me a dance."

After a few minutes, the Doctor raced out of the TARDIS.

"Erm, there's a bit of a problem. We need to leave. Now."

"Doctor!" Peggy protested.

"No, you can't keep him. As much as it hurts, we can't alter his timeline."

"Aren't you the one who told me that history could be rewritten? Steve could hold off a whole platoon of Daleks on his own."

"I know what you're thinking, and even so much as thinking about it alone could create a black hole. Nasty buggers. Really ruin your weekend."

"Excuse me?" Steve said, furrowing his brow. "Who are you?"

"I'm the Doctor. I'm a Time Lord."

Before Steve could implore further, Peggy spoke up. "The blue box is his time machine."

Steve's eyes sparkled. "A time machine."

"Do you two want a black hole?"

"We could always... bring him back," Peggy said, choking on her last three words.

"I suppose putting him back where we found him could be an option, but..." The Doctor's eyes widened. "Peggy, in the TARDIS. Now."

"What?"

"IN!" The Doctor shoved her inside.

Steve had made up his mind. He wasn't losing Peggy ever again. He sprinted towards the police box The Doctor had referred to as the TARDIS, and an intense fire suddenly exploded down the hall. Quickly realizing even he couldn't outrun it, he jumped in the air and hid completely behind his shield. Steve was pushed backwards by the blast through the TARDIS's open door. As soon as he made it through, Peggy slammed the door shut behind him.

Steve winced in pain and began to get up off the floor on his own, but Peggy extended her hand and helped him up. "Thanks," he said, looking around the TARDIS interior in surprise. "It's-"

"Bigger on the inside?" Peggy finished.

The Doctor, who had been frantically jumping around the control panel in the center of the room, pulled a lever. "Hold on!"

Although terrified, Steve let out a small sigh of relief.

He hadn't missed the blue box.

I hope you enjoyed this! As I was saying, I was inspired by the idea of Peggy being one of the Doctor's companions. What did you think?
