I know that this chapter will me short and but I promise that I have more, I've been super busy :(
After Billy finished his coffee, he said something about watching the news and left the kitchen. I looked up at Jacob who was now staring at his bowl of cereal.
"Jake," I said quietly.
He looked up from the bowl and sighed.
"What do you want me to say?" he asked warily.
"Something," I said. "Anything."
He sighed.
"You know," he started. "If there were any way for me to expunge everything that happened last night for you, I would, but I can't. I'm sorry."
"You're right," I said. "You can't and neither can I."
"You're gonna have to go home some time, Ava."
Deep down I knew Jacob was right. I did have to go home eventually and apologize for my impropriety. But I didn't know how my parents would react to my coming home after our semi hiatus. I honestly wanted to abscond from all this, but I couldn't do that either. That wasn't how I solved my problems before and I wasn't gonna start now.
I really wished there was a way to outlaw arranged marriage because this shit sucks!
"I know I have to go home, but I mean come on! I know that I'm being redundant when I say that I'm marrying a man that I don't even know, but if your mom and dad did the same thing to you when you were little and you found out about it now, you'd be just as pissed and offended as I am."
Jacob said nothing as he got up from the table and picked up his bowl of, now, soggy cereal and walked over to the sink. He poured the contents of the bowl down the drain and rinsed out the bowl. He turned the faucet off and spun around to look at me.
"Pissed would be an understatement," he murmured. I laughed and he soon followed with deep chuckles.
"I'll go home," I said. "But I really want something to at first."
Jacob laughed. "I think we can take care of that."
I surprisingly found the ride home extremely boring as Jacob and I sat in the car in silence. I have no idea why he at least didn't turn on the radio. I don't think that not having music in the car was salutary by any means.
I sigh and prop my feet up on the dashboard. Jacob looked back and forth between the road and me.
"Bored?' he asked, amused.
"You think?" I shot back.
"Well I would turn on the radio or something but it went to shit after I dropped you off last night."
I shook my head.
"Yeah I know," he said. "I'm gonna take it to the shop later and fix it up."
Jake's been working at the auto shop in here for a couple of years now and he is the best in town. People come all the way from Forks to see him about their car troubles and Jacob never fails to please his customers.
He once did an engine repair for Angela, a canon from the Catholic Church in Forks and she told everyone what an awesome job he did.
I laugh to myself as I recall how Paul tried to smooth talk her that one time but I could tell from the look on her face that it wasn't working at all. I remember that he implied that he would try to get in her pants at some point and the look on her face almost made me burst with laughter. It was a mix between anger and embarrassment. Of course I wasn't laughing at the embarrassment but you get the picture. When she harshly declined his offer, the look on Paul's face⦠priceless. He pouted the rest of the day.
I told him not to worry about it and mention that she could be celibate because she takes her religious beliefs seriously. God knows he doesn't like commitment anyways.
Before I knew it, the car was parked and we were currently sitting in the drive way. Flashbacks from last night started to flood my mind immediately. I looked at Jacob and he looked right back at me, waiting for me to make the next move.
"Aren't you gonna rush me out of the car?" I asked.
"Come on," he said. "You know me better than that."
He's right. I did.
"I don't know what to do," I admitted.
"You'll be fine. This is an unfortunate situation, but sadly there's no way out of it."
"I just want my life back."
Jacob sat back in his seat and pondered my words for a moment, maybe longer. He turned to me, his face etched in realization and sadness.
"Maybe you were meant to start a new one."
