Icedevimon's POV:

"Hm…" I tapped one finger on the arm of my chair. Mercurymon was being defeated easily since the Warriors had entered the war; I needed to think of a plan. Something random, completely unexpected and something that would slow the DigiDestined down, if only for a few hours while I thought of a larger plan.

Kai's POV:

All of us were on our way to Ophanimon's castle, we had decided to stop for the night since the stars were coming out. I was sitting by the campfire when all of sudden I felt someone grab me and they wrapped their arm around me. The person started to say, "KAI! I'm so glad you okay I was worried I wouldn't see you again after you were captured."

I said, "I'm ok Sky, but if you don't stop squeezing me I may not be." She quickly let go of me she was about to say something when Zoe called her over.

I didn't need to hear them to guess what they were talking about when Zoe giggled, Sky blushed and the duo glanced over at Marcus. I decided to ignore it and start to to fall asleep when I felt a hand on my shoulder.

Koichi's POV 5 minutes ago:

We were all camping for the night but something still bothered me; I thought back to what happened earlier.

Flashback:

I heard Kai say, "I'm sorry for worrying you guys."

Lobomon gave a noncommittal grunt of acceptance, but everyone else smiled while Kari told Kai, "It's fine; it wasn't your fault."

Kai said sadly, "Yes it was, something took over; I couldn't control it."

Lobomon and I both flinched slightly at that statement, Kai having brought back memories of a certain evil bunny who had made me almost destroy my brother.

"What do you mean?" Zephyrmon inquired as she swerved through the trees in an attempt to move closer to BurningGreymon and his passengers.

Kai said softly, "When Mercurymon was showing me him torturing our partners, Kari and Koji . I felt something take over me, and I couldn't control it. It caused Salamon to digivolve and all it wanted to do was fight."

"So it wanted to fight Mercurymon and it helped Salamon digivolve?" I could tell that through his armour, Beetlemon was smiling. "Score; something's finally going right for us!"

"I don't think that's what Kai meant, JP," I softly told him. I thought to myself, I know how it feels to not have control over yourself. I could tell Kai had noticed and figured out what I was thinking about.

"It wasn't like Duskmon, Koichi."

End Flashback

I decided that I needed to know what it was really like, I walked over to him and put my hand on his shoulder and said, "Kai can I talk to you about what happened when you watched Mercurymon torture Kari and Koji?" He trembled slightly I could tell the memory of what happened had the same effect Duskmon had on me.

"O-okay," he muttered as I sat down beside him. "Well, like the others, he transported me and clapped the chain-things around my wrists, but then he just showed me different videos and pictures of Kouji, Kari, her Gatomon and my Salamon being tortured. I felt something telling me to do something, and it got angry when I didn't…" he swallowed loudly. "Then the pictures kept coming… and it was just too much. The thing trying to take over got angrier with each picture until it just became too powerful. I don't think that it actually meant to take over, but when it did, it took advantage of the fact."

I blinked as Kai took a few deep breaths before continuing, eyes on his sleeping partner beside him, "It made Salamon digivolve, but not in the way that she should have. It didn't force the power onto her, but it wouldn't have given her the option of not digivolving if she didn't want to… and all it wanted to do was fight Mercurymon by itself."

I nodded in understanding as Kai grew silent. Neither of us said anything for a few minutes and just as I was about to leave, he grabbed my wrist, stopping me, "She doesn't hate you, just so you know."

I blinked in confusion and looked up to see Kari somewhat glaring at me, but she turned away when she saw me looking at her.

"It's just that you're the warrior of darkness," Kai continued as I looked back at him. "Almost every evil digimon that she faced was controlled by darkness, so she's having a hard time adjusting to the fact that you're not evil."

I nodded; that was understandable. We never had the same problem due to the fact that Lucemon had been both light and darkness, depending on which mode he was in. But facing evil digimon who were under the control of darkness and then meeting someone who used it for good purposes must have shaken Kari.

"Thank you," I murmured as Kai nodded before lying down and falling asleep.

Sky's POV:

I had heard what Koichi and Kai talked about and I was worried that it might happen again.

I sighed until I heard Zoe say. "You are just like Takuya."

I said hotly, "I am not!"

She answered, "You didn't let me finish you treat Kai just like Takuya treats Tommy like he's your little brother. That Crest of Love fits you very well. Why do you treat Kai like he's your little brother?" Everyone except for Kai since he was asleep heard this and gathered around Zoe and I.

Kari said, "Yeah I'd like to know that as well."

Koichi said, "Yeah I think all of us would like to know."

Marcus flinched and said, "You guys don't want to know its really boring."

Tyson said, "Of course you don't want them to know you were a part of the reason why he needed protection." This caused everyone's eyes to widen.

I sighed and said, "Alright I'll tell you, but its not a happy story.

Flashback Kai's POV Place:Odaiba Elementary School 4th grade:

I was starting to walk home when I saw my friend Tyson and he called me over. When I got there he said, "Hey Kai when is the next club meeting?"

I said, "We were going to meet at Sky's place on Friday to watch a marathon and the first Digimon movie."

He said, "Thanks I'll let my mom know." All of the sudden Marcus Tyson's older brother walked over with Tyler.

He said, "Tyson why are you talking to girly boy?"

Tyson said nervously but bravely, "His name isn't girly boy its Kai."

Marcus replied smugly, "Whatever, I don't want you hanging out with him anymore he's a bad influence."

Tyson said, "No he's not he's my friend."

Marcus said angrily, "SEE! He's already gotten inside of your head. Tyler hold him down." With that Tyler grabbed my arms and held me down. Marcus kept punching me in the face and stomach. He was about to deliver a final blow, but he was stopped by a voice.

The voice shouted, "MARCUS HOW DARE YOU!" He whipped around and saw Sky.

He pulled back his punches and motioned for Tyler to get up.

He said nervously, "Um… I uh."

Tyson shoved his way between Tyler and Marcus and said, "They beat up Kai for no reason."

Sky ordered, "TYLER, MARCUS MOVE!" They did as she ordered and when Sky saw me she had tears in her eyes and said, "Kai lets get you to the Nurses office. She helped me up and continued, "You can stay at my house tonight and I'll call you mom." I was too weak to reply. She told the nurse about what happened and Marcus and Tyler were sent to the principal's office.

End Flashback

Everyone's eyes were as wide as a truck. Even Kouji was upset, but Takuya decided to take action upon this and gave Marcus a good punch in the stomach. He shouted, "WHY THE HECK WOULD YOU BEAT HIM UP?"

Zoe added, "Why did you call him a girly boy, and also Sky you said you were neighbors, why would he need to stay at your house?"

A voice said, "I can explain that better than anyone." Everyone turned their head and saw Kai was up once again.

I said worriedly, "Kai how much of that did you hear?"

He said, "All of it."

He lightly shook Salamon awake. His partner asked, "Is it morning already?"

Kai let a small chuckle, "No, but who can really tell? This is just something you need to know. You see back in my world I have two older sisters that have a strong influence on me since well… my mom and dad divorced when I was 3, my mom didn't think that my dad could take care of me, so I was left with her, eventually she was having trouble supporting the 3 of us and had to go to another city to raise money to take care of us leaving my sisters to raise me. Thats how I got the nickname girly boy, but there was another factor in it. He glanced over at Kari then he continued, "Ever since I could talk I've alway been more like a girl than a boy in both personality and size."

Zoe asked, "What about Sky being your next door neighbor?"
He slightly smiled, "Thats easy to answer she wasn't always my neighbor. She and her family moved into the apartment next to us when my mom had to go to her new job in the different city. She asked Sky's mom to move in next to us to keep an eyes on me and my sisters. The two of them were close friend and well Sky sorta begged for it." I had a heavy blush on my face.

"Wow," Koichi blinked in surprise before frowning. "But why did you beg to live next to him if you didn't see him like a little brother at the time?"

"That was only part of the story," I muttered sadly.

"What do you mean?" Tommy frowned in confusion, but before any of us incarnations could answer, the ground beneath us started shaking, knocking all of us off our feet.

"What's… happening?!" JP yelled. It was at that moment that the ground caved in and we fell into darkness.

Kai's POV:

When I opened my eyes all I could see was darkness and I hated it. I couldn't help, but shiver I was scared. I shouted, "SALAMON, KARI, SKY, ANYONE!" I started to walk to try and find someone. I started to hear a familiar voice but I couldn't recognize who or what it was. It said, "Come to us we will help free you from your sadness."

"W-wh-who's there?" I stammered, tensing.

Before they could reply, I heard a familiar voice call through the darkness, "KOJI! ZOE! HELLO?"

"KOICHI!" I yelled in response, sighing in relief as the warrior of darkness came into view.

He asked, "Where are we?"

All of the sudden the darkness was lifted and I didn't like what I saw. I ran up to Koichi and hid behind him, and said, "It can't be…"

Koichi asked, "What can't be? Do you know where we are?"

"Of course he knows," a dark voice rang through the air, causing both Koichi and I to tense. "This place is the exact opposite of his element; it weakens him to the extent that it would be impossible for him not to know. You on the other hand are strengthened."

"We're in the Dark Ocean," I whispered, my eyes wide as I clutched Koichi's arm tightly.

He asked trying to put up a brave front, "Who are you? Show yourself."

"Very well," the voice chuckled as a cloaked figure with horns and black wings came into view. I whimpered slightly, squeezing my eyes shut.

"Daemon…"

Koichi said, "Don't be scared Kai. He doesn't look that scary. Tell me more about this Dark Ocean."

Daemon said, "I'll do the honor of that. The dark ocean is the place that the true chosen Child of Light fears most."

I spoke up quietly, "Why are you hunting me down when I'm not the true child of light?"

Daemon crept forward and said, "Yes you are child do you ever wonder why you have the crest? The Crest of Light is only given and allowed to be kept by the true child of light."

"Then why does Kari still have her crest?" I asked, my grip on Koichi tightening and causing the elder boy to wince.

The devil-like digimon said, "Fool! Did you ever wonder why you and not her could heal people? Could call on the spirits? Why your crest and not hers could grow stronger with rage induced by someone injuring a friend? You are the one who has the true powers of the Crest of Light, Kai Kamiya. Not your 'cousin', I believe you called her in school."

"Why are you telling us this?" Koichi growled, fists clenching.

"So that it will be that much more fun to destroy you just after you get the information that could turn this war around," Daemon smirked as he grabbed his cloak and threw it off him, revealing his black-and-purple furred body.

Tyson's POV:

I groaned as I opened my eyes, finding myself lying face-down on the sand. Quickly, I stood up, glancing around, "Hello? Anyone there? Kai? S-Sky? Marcus!"

"Ugh…" I heard someone groan and looked around again to see Zoe slowly standing up a few metres away next to Sky - who had just woken up. "Can you be a bit quieter?"

"Zoe, Sky!" I cried, running towards them as Sky opened her eyes before jumping up, immediately alert.

"The Dark Ocean?" she murmured, trembling slightly as Zoe looked at her in confusion. "Not again…"

"What do you mean 'not again'?" Zoe raised an eyebrow as Sky shook her head before gulping.

"It's what Kai was about to tell you about back in your world…"

I was also confused at that stage; I hadn't heard of this either.

She took a deep breath, "About a month before Marcus and Tyler beat Kai up, I used to make fun of him a bit as well. Not to the extent of hurting him physically, but mentally I probably did. Then my mom organised for me to babysit him one night. He got me to watch a film with him and we both fell asleep… and woke up here. We were walking around for a while before we saw a rogue Greymon. He ran at us and probably would have killed us, but Kai shoved me out of the way and I couldn't believe it even after all the times I teased him he saved me from sure death. The only thing was that he was about to be blasted by the Greymon. Then a pinkish light like his crest surrounded him. It consumed him and he almost destroyed the Greymon, but I managed to stop him…" Sky paused and took a deep breath. "He collapsed and the Greymon left us alone. A few minutes later, I woke up. Kai was still unconscious so I brought him up to his bed. I've seen him like a little brother since then."

Zoe was shocked and she asked, "Did Kai ever have friends before recently?"

I said, "Yeah, but I was about the only friend he had hence why he tended to cut himself off from the world around him."

"But… the others…" Zoe blinked in confusion as Sky bit her lip.

"The rest of our group only got to know him a few weeks ago…"

"Wow," Zoe murmured, but before we could discuss the topic any further, a loud roar filled the air. We all whipped around to see a large dust cloud moving towards us, but only Sky seemed to know what it concealed.

"No…" she whispered, falling to her knees, trembling. "Why is he back?"

"Who?" I yelped as the dust cloud cleared slightly and a grey-skinned dinosaur came into view.

"...Greymon…"

Koichi's POV:

Before Daemon could attack, I whipped out my D-Tector, "EXECUTE! BEAST SPIRIT EVOLUTION!"

"Resistance is futile," he snarled as I glared at him.

"If this place weakens the powers of light, what do you think it would do to the powers of darkness?"

He froze slightly as a large, dark aura surrounded me and I lunged at him. "Dark Master!"

He sidestepped out of the way, but I had distracted him and quickly Kai held up his crest which began glowing brightly, causing Daemon to shield his eyes.

"The powers of light may be weakened," Kai yelled, "but they're still strong enough to defeat you!"

"Insolent brat," Daemon howled, taking off into the air where the glow couldn't affect him as much.

Feeling myself growing stronger with the light, I paused, confused. If Daemon and I were both creatures of the darkness, then why was he weakened by the light while I was strengthened by it?

"It's simple," Daemon turned to me and smirked, as though he knew what I was thinking. "I'm 'Yami no Yami', the darkness of darkness; the true darkness. You," he spat, "on the other hand are 'Yami no Hikari', the darkness of light; a weak imitation of its true potential, a traitor to your brothers of darkness."

I froze, my eyes wide. Could he actually be telling the truth?

Then Kai's crest began glowing even brighter, "That's enough!"

Seeing Daemon backing away from the light, I attacked him as well, "Ebony Blast!"

Daemon yelped slightly, dodging the attacks before flying away, "I've served my purpose here. I know that you will never be strong enough."

"What for?" Kai yelled after him.

Neither of us expected him to answer, but he glanced over his shoulder at us, "To face your true enemy ."

Kai's POV:

I thought to myself, What does he mean by my true enemy. After that thought crossed my mind I passed out. I didn't know but my hair had grown as long as Kari's 01 hair and even if I cut it it would just come back longer.

Sky's POV:

My eyes widened in shock and horror as Greymon stampeded towards us, rage evident in his eyes.

"Move!" Zoe shrieked, pushing me out of the way as Greymon's foot landed just where I had been not five seconds previously.

"Thanks," I coughed as she nodded and stood up.

"EXECUTE! SPIRIT EVOLUTION!"

Both Kazemon and Piddomon lunged at Greymon and should have easily been able to destroy him, but he was only after me. Realising that I was only putting my friends in danger, I waved my arms in the air to get the dinosaur's attention, "HEY! OVER HERE!"

He clumsily turned his head towards me and I started running. Where to , I had no idea. I just needed to get him away from Kazemon and Piddomon before they got hurt.

Unfortunately, fate seemed to be working against me, because I tripped a few metres away, wincing. I had forgotten that the Dark Ocean was beside a beach, and unfortunately, I hadn't noticed the large stone in front of me.

"Sky!" I heard Piddomon yell as Greymon charged towards me. "Apollo Tornado!"

Greymon was one of the digimon who couldn't speak a single word, so when Piddomon blocked him from attacking me, he simply roared in outrage, smacking him into the ground with a clawed hand, forcing him to de-digivolve.

"Tyson!" I yelled, running towards my friend as Greymon prepared to attack again. Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath, accepting my faith as I pushed Tyson out of the way. This was it; I was going to die.

The flames surrounded me and I screamed on impulse, but when they faded, I was left unscathed, not having noticed a pinkish orb summon an orb of red from the earth.

Slowly, I pulled out my tri-tector, "Is it… really?"

"I could use a bit of help here!" Kazemon called, doing her best to fend of Greymon on her own as I nodded.

"EXECUTE! SPIRIT EVOLUTION!"

Pink data flew around me in small particles until it formed a small tornado. I looked exactly like Zoe when she spirit evolved, only I had a different colour theme. Wherever on my body was supposed to be purple, it was red, and my wings and the streaks on my cheeks were a light orange colour.

"Greymon," I growled as I slowly rose into the air, a dark look that was visible even through my visor. "You went too far. Hurricane Wave!"

"Hurricane Wave!"

The two sets of air shot towards Greymon on either side, giving him nowhere to run and he was blasted by the wind. Not giving him time to recover, I rushed towards him while Kazemon (Zoe) stood on her hands and began spinning.

"Roseo Temporale!"

"Tempest Twist!"

Battered by the dozens of kicks, Greymon roared in pain and swiped at us with his claws, but I backflipped out of the way and Kazemon ducked underneath his hand.

"Love Tap!" she tapped the side of his head with her hip, nodding at me as hearts literally appeared in his eyes.

"Tempest Twist!" a few more kicks to the chest, and Greymon's fractal code appeared.

I pulled out my tri-tector after Kazemon indicated for me to take it, "Soul corrupted by evil… be purified by the loving wind! Fractal code, digitise!"

As soon as Greymon's digi-egg disappeared, I fell to my knees, de-digivolving.

Looking up, I smiled as Zoe offered a hand to help me up and I took it before by tri-tector began beeping and Kai's crest of light appeared on the screen. Quickly, I pressed one of the buttons, "Hello?"

"Sky, is that you?!" came the hurried reply of Kai.

"Yeah, it's me," I sighed in relief. "I'm with Zoe and Tyler."

"Koichi's with me," Kai stated and a quiet 'hi' from Koichi could be heard in the background.

"Are you guys okay?"

"Yeah; we're fine. How about you?"

"A little bruised, but nothing serious," I explained before my eyes widened in realisation. "Wait… where's Kari?!"

Kari's POV:

Darkness surrounded me, and nothing but darkness. Not the kind of welcoming darkness that Koichi represented, but the cold, depressing darkness of the dark ocean.

I was barely able to keep my head above the water that I had landed in. I barely had the will to stay breathing anymore.

I knew that beneath me, several digimon were waiting for me to sink, to drag me down; I could hear them swimming underneath me.

But I couldn't go down; not yet. Not until I knew that Kai was alright.

Then something grabbed my ankle and I was pulled underwater.
