A couple of things. I am sorry that this chapter took so long I basically had to rewrite the darn thing. Now a couple of other things sitting in one place for too long hurts my right shoulder and as this laptop needs to be plugged in all the time, I have to constantly stop to let my shoulder rest before I continue. This was one of the reasons that this chapter took so long. That being said, I am getting a new, lighter able to be on battery only laptop this week ( boxing day) so I fingers crossed will have the last few chapters up for you soon hopefully. I know this Chapter seems a little rushed but I was trying to work through the pain in my shoulder to get this to you before Christmas as I said I would get this one to you before then.
Also is there anything you would like to see happen before this story ends, like anything specific with Dan, or anything the choice is yours and I'll see what I can work into the last few chapter. But guys and gals please if you're going to give me idea's give me more than just one sentence or a couple of words so I have something meaty to work with. Once again I am sorry this chapter took so long.
Chapter 29
Although it had driven, Lucas nuts, Haley, Brooke and Lilly hadn't spoken to Peyton for three days. Peyton knew she deserved it and every time Lucas went off his brain she reminded him that, Haley could have done a lot worse and that, if a few days of silent treatment was all she had to put up with, then she'd put up with it. That hadn't stopped him going off his brain at Lilly who refused to look at Peyton; when they had visited the original Scott house late one afternoon.
It was a well known fact that the Scott men had very short tempers, and on that one afternoon, Lucas Scott had, had enough. The silent treatment from his friends was enough, but his little sister was going to respect her sister in law even if he had to make her do it. He had gone off his brain yelling at her. Calling her every name he could think off, to give her credit, Lilly kept up with him, yelling back at him that he had done the exact same thing, one year when he was home on Spring break from Duke when she was seven. So if anyone was to blame he should look in the damn mirror. It hadn't been till Lucas had slapped her that Lilly stopped and looked at him with tears in her eyes.
"I HATE YOU! I WISH I'D GROWN UP WITH NATHAN AT LEAST HE TREATS ME LIKE I'M ELEVEN AND NOT A FREAKING FOUR YEAR OLD! SCREW YOU LUCAS AND SCREW YOUR STUPID WIFE AS WELL!" Lilly screamed before running out of the lounge room and slamming the front door. Karen and Keith who had been in the kitchen at the time came walking in, to see what the hell had gone on between their oldest and youngest child while they had been out of the room. They saw Peyton sitting on the sofa pinching the bridge of her nose and looking slightly ashamed and annoyed with her husband who was standing in front of her red faced and looking as pissed off as his father had been the day that Nathan and Haley had come back into their lives.
"What was your sister yelling about? And when has she gone?" Karen asked looking around the room and not seeing her daughter anywhere.
Nathan and Haley had been sitting in their living room enjoying a cup of coffee together, while Jamie was up in his room talking to Susie on Skype, there was a sudden and urgent knock on the front door, Haley looked over at Nathan and frowned they hadn't been expecting anyone this afternoon. Getting up she walked through their house and opened the front door just as Lilly was about to knock again.
"Hey kiddo what's up?" she asked before noticing the grazes that ran from the right side of her forehead right down to her shoes.
"Nathan get the first aid kit, come here kiddo" said Haley helping her sister in law inside it was only then that she noticed Lilly's now slightly mangled bike sitting beside her car.
Nathan, walked to the door way and noticed the state in which his little sister was in, he clenched his fist and vowed to hurt who ever the son of a bitch was that hurt his little sister, but first he would help Haley clean her up. Grabbing the first aid kit, he set it on the counter before picking his little sister up with ease and sitting her next to it. They spent the next half an hour cleaning her up, and trying to figure out what she was saying through all the sobbing that she was doing. It was Haley who had gotten through to her finally, after the two of them had moved to the couch that Nathan and Haley had been on before she arrived. Haley had sat with her till she had fallen asleep and then went to find her husband. She found him out the front, he was trying to see if he could salvage her bike at all.
"She came flying round a corner to fast and hit some sand, she lost control and skidded across the road and into a tree." Said Haley as Nathan scratched his head trying to figure just what had happened to the mangled mess. Standing up he let what had been a bike fall to the ground before leaning against Haley's car.
"Did she tell you anything, why she was riding that fast without a helmet on?" Nathan asked folding his arms, Haley came up beside him and nodded.
"You're not going to like it, but Lucas; he started yelling at her when she was ignoring Peyton. Karen had already warned Peyton that Lilly would follow suit, and if you remember when we were teens Peyton wasn't Lilly's favourite person in the world. That famous Scott temper might not be just a male thing after all; as your sister tells it she gave Lucas as good as she got" Nathan looked over at his wife and knew there was something she was leaving out, something she wasn't telling him. He also knew if she wasn't telling him, it was something he wasn't going to like.
"and?"
"Lucas slapped her, and then Lilly took off she wanted to come here and cool down, as you can imagine, upset, hurt and mad do not go well when you're trying to see where you are going, she didn't see the sand and you know the rest." Said Haley, Nathan nodded and rested his head back on the car, it surprised his wife that he wasn't running inside to get the keys, before heading to his parents place to throttle his older brother.
"I'll call dad, let him knows she's here" he said pushing himself off the car. When he turned back to look at Haley he laughed at the look on her face.
"You really think either of my parents are going to let him off lightly for this. Not to mention the entire town is going to be pissed at him. I don't need to thump my brother for what he did. Am I pissed off? Sure but Lucas Eugene Scott is going to be paying for this outburst for a very long time. A few punches from me isn't going to do anything. Besides I think my five year old son can do more damage to his uncle than I can. If I go after Lucas, it will just rile him up more. However if Jamie who this family knows is very protective of the people he loves goes after his uncle for hurting his aunt, well maybe, just maybe my thick skulled brother might get it through his head that, kids do stupid things sometimes, they say and do things before they even stop to think about what the consequences are. She may be wise for her age, but my kid sister is, still that a kid. It would also help if Lucas and Peyton didn't treat her like a baby so much."
Keith had walked inside after quickly searching their neighbourhood for his daughter, he was about to call Nathan when his cell phone rang. It seemed good timing as the call had been from his middle child. He relaxed a bit when Nathan had told him that Lilly had turned up at their door crying; of course why hadn't they thought of that in the first place? He frowned as his son told him that Lilly had obviously fallen off her bike as she had grazes up and down her right side and was now sleeping it off on their living room couch. Keith wanted to slap his oldest himself when Nathan had told him that Lilly's bike was more than likely a write off and that she would need a new one. He had only just gotten his daughter that bike, it was less than six months old. Well it seemed that Keith knew exactly what his son could get his sister for Christmas this year.
The news of the fight between Lucas and Lilly had spread rather quickly through family and friends Lucas had a lot of explaining to do now even his own wife was mad at him, for going off at his sister the way he had done. So the holiday they had, booked and paid for before Nathan and Haley came back to town was more than likely going to be a full week of Lucas grovelling while Peyton refused to talk to him till he cleaned up the mess he had made. The time away from his family and friends would probably help him, with the issues he probably wasn't even aware of. They were that he was slightly jealous of his little brother for having a family first. He was the older sibling and for well most of their life he'd always done things first. There were the most obvious ones, like first to talk, walk, go to school, read. Then there were the ones that weren't traditional. Well for most families, but in the Scott family they were. Lucas had been, first to pick up a basket ball, first to get ten free throws in a row, first to get on a junior league team. First to get on the Ravens and the only Scott brother to lead them to State Championships; however he wasn't the first brother to get married, or have a child Nathan has beat him in both of those before he was even out of his teens.
Peyton knew that as much as Lucas loved Jamie, and wouldn't want anything to happen to him. He was still jealous that Nathan and Haley had, had children first, she guessed it would be just another thing that they could thank Dan for, that list sure was piling up. It would always be a sore spot for Lucas, one she was sure he would never admit to be a sore spot for him all the same.
A couple of days before Lucas and Peyton left, Karen said she wanted another family dinner party, and everyone had to attend or else. It amazed pretty much all of them that she had even wanted to have one, after everything that had happened, in the last few days. Lucas had been yelled at by both his parents, Haley, half the staff at the Cafe, Brooke, Julian and half of Lilly's school friends. Now she wanted to put him in a room with his brother, and five year old nephew? Clearly Karen was up to something. No one could figure out what though.
So once again the Scott family- that seemed to always include Brooke and Julian even though they weren't actually Scotts- gathered in the original Scott home for a family dinner. It was no were near as quite as last week, although it did seem that conversation flowed depending on who was ignored; Lucas was ignored by everyone at the table, everyone but Jamie, who currently had no clue what was going on. Although if Nathan had anything to say about that, his son would soon know what his uncle and done, and if Jamie's past was anything to go by Lucas wouldn't be forgiven by his nephew any time soon.
"Lil, I was thinking, Nathan and I were planning on going down to Savannah, over new years for a couple of day, if it's ok with your mum and dad, do you want to come with us?" Haley asked Lilly looked over at Karen and Keith, smirked and nodded.
"So long as it's not over Christmas," Said Karen Haley nodded, she and Nathan had planned to leave the day after and drive back to Tree Hill on the second of January. She wanted Jamie to have his first Christmas here in Tree Hill surrounded by family and friends even with everything going on in their family at the moment; she wanted him to have a Christmas he wouldn't soon forget. Sure it would be a little different than what he was used to. As every other Christmas they had gone over to the Rolling house after breakfast; the family traditions that they had created in Savannah would now have to change a little seeing as they couldn't go to the Freeman's house of lights, but she was sure that there would be some people here or in another surrounding town that they could go see. Conversation went on from there, to what Brooke had decided to do for the wedding, she and Haley had dress fittings throughout the week, Peyton's had already been done, and Lilly had one last fitting to make sure that her dress still fit with the growth spurt that she had had in the last couple of months. Wedding talk moved to Christmas and shortly after that, everyone was getting up and moving around letting their dinner settle before they had desert.
Lucas sat on the front steps of his mothers house and watched his father, brother and sister ran around playing Frisbee. He looked up as Jamie sat down beside him.
"Uncle Lucas, why did no one talk to you at dinner?" Jamie asked looking up at his uncle, Lucas bit his lip how do you tell a five year old, that you tried to put your sister his aunt in her place because she was acting childish.
"I got mad at Lilly," Jamie frowned for a minute trying to think of anything his aunt had done that would make his uncle mad at her. When he couldn't think of anything he scratched his head.
"Why?"
"She was being childish and ignoring Peyton" said Lucas.
"But she is a kid, she's a big kid; and Aunt Peyton did something wrong, and mummy always says if you're mad at someone tell them." Lucas sighed and nodded well at least his nephew was talking to him.
"Maybe you should just say sorry, it helps" said Jamie, with earnest he had learnt that lesson the hard way a couple of times and maybe his uncle had forgotten that one, adults had to remember a lot of stuff after all.
"It's not that easy, buddy" Lucas saw the sceptical look on Jamie's face he rolled his eyes. Did he really have to into great detail, it wasn't like Jamie was going to understand him.
"Fine, I got angry at Aunt Lilly because she was ignoring Aunt Peyton, and we yelled at each other, and I –
"He called me some mean names and I told him that that wasn't nice and he said he didn't care if it was nice or not they were true" said Lilly coming over to them. Jamie looked from his aunt to his uncle and then got up.
"I don't like mean people and you're mean" Jamie poked his tongue out at his uncle before running inside. Lucas sighed then looked at Lilly who had jumped in and told a different version of what happened he went to ask her why she had done that when she walked past him.
"Because Jamie would never forgive you if he knew what you really did; or is your memory fading as well, it took him almost a week to talk to mum again after she told, that aunt of his from California to leave the Cafe. Oh wait it has nothing to do with you why would you pay attention" Lilly said before walking away and rolling her eyes. Lucas went to get up to say something when Nathan's hand rested on his shoulder.
"She's right you know, Jamie would never forgive you. He was as mad as I've ever seen him when Erin came to visit and mum all but physically removed her from the cafe. It took Erin hours to calm him down and it took Haley and I another week before he wanted to see her again; and that wasn't a pointed name or even mum hitting her. So what do you think my very protective five year old would do to you if he found out that you were the reason behind the cuts, scrapes and bruises all over his favourite aunt? Not to mention the names you called her. Half of which Haley and I had to explain to an eleven year old. It's a wonder you're still alive. I honestly would have thought mum would have killed you by now. You'd be nowhere to be found if you called Jamie any of those names."Said Nathan as he walked up the stairs; He stood in the front door and turned around.
"Remember Luke, she's eleven, she's almost a teenager and she's going to say things you don't like sometimes. We did the same thing remember; also stop treating her like a baby honestly. Some of the things she tells Haley and I, no wonder you don't have kids yet. You can barely cope having your pre-teen sister around, let alone your own child." Turning around Nathan walked inside Lucas stood there with his mouth open, did his brother really just say that. Lucas turned to look at his father who was standing next to him.
"Don't look at me I've been telling you this for years and you just brush it off. It was bound to get through sooner or later." Lucas threw his hands up in the air well there was no reason for him to go inside now. Not with a pissed off five year old, who's mother, father and God Mother were inside, he may as well just walk home he had really screwed up this time, maybe the week away would do them all the world of good. Man he couldn't wait to be out of Tree Hill for a while, no more drama, because that's all that seemed to happen at the moment was one drama after the next, it was exhausting and he needed a break from it.
