Chapter V Part I: The Moment of Truth

Victor was sitting in class about half an hour after the disastrous events of the battle against the Death Stalker, and he was sulking. 'How could I have messed up so badly!' He raged in his thoughts.

He kept being gloomy until the class was interrupted by a messenger running into the classroom and handing a note to the professor. Victor glanced curiously at the professor and then started to sulk again. "Ahem." The professor began, "The assembly where the students who are eligible to attend Beacon are announced is in two minutes, pack up and let's go!" He finished. Victor pulled himself out of his dark mood and thought that maybe, just maybe he had a chance to get in.

He strapped his beloved Grimmbane to his belt and sped down the aisle of desks. As he ran by, he winked at a group of girls, who then started giggling at his flirtatious gesture. As soon as he was at the door, the professor stopped him.

"Victor, I heard about your simulation." He began. Victor's mood quickly declined again. "And while that is an excuse to not pay attention for one day, I expect to see your old self tomorrow, alright?" Victor nodded. "Good and between you and me, I still think you have a good chance of getting in." The professor said conspiratorially. Victor's spirits flew, and he grinned at the professor. "Yang Xiao Long!" The headmaster continued. Victor began to feel disappointed, had he gotten his hopes up for nothing?

"Xavier Teal." 'Oh that little punk!' Victor raged silently, why did HE get in and not me! "Tessa-" Victor stopped listening and slipped on his headphones. 'Screw this!' He thought.

After awhile there was clapping and the girl next to him nudged his shoulder, he tore off his headphones and looked at her questioningly, she giggled, kissed him on the cheek, and then ran off. "What the-" Victor began. "Dude!" Someone yelled. "Get up there!" Another whispered. Victor sat there confused, only those eligible went up there, so they were either pranking him or...

"Here you go." The headmaster said, handing Victor a letter, "Next time, listen for your name." 'What was he talking about?' Victor wondered, then he froze.

As he looked at the paper, he realized it was a letter of acceptance from Beacon, but that wasn't what had frozen him. What had frozen him was the name on it: Victor Cobalt...
