Oooooooooooooo

Four weeks went by and Max finally told Roy to stop looking for Pelant.

"I'm sorry, Max." Distressed that he'd let his father's friend down, Roy apologized, "I really tried to find him, but he just seemed to disappear after I tracked him to Maryland. I haven't seen him anywhere. I've looked in Virginia and Maryland and West Virginia and I started looking in Pennsylvania and North Carolina and I just don't know where he is."

Patting the young man's shoulder, Max assured him, "Hey don't worry about it. Maybe the bastard left the country. If he's not around here then I don't give a damn where he is. You did a good job, so don't worry about it." Handing the boy an envelope filled with money, he assured him, "I hope if I need you in the future I can count on you."

Holding up his hands, Roy protested, "Please, Max, I don't feel right taking your money."

Taking the boy's right hand and placing the envelope in it, Max insisted, "Don't be ridiculous, kid. You do a job for someone you should expect to be paid for it. If the results were negative it doesn't matter. You did your job. Now take the money. You're old man says you could use the money to help pay off some student loans. You earned it and I'll keep you in mind in case I ever need something done with computers again."

Flattered, Roy clutched the envelope, "Thanks Max. Thanks a lot."

Winking at him, Max assured him, "I only work with the best kid. Don't forget that."

Entering the house, Brennan smelled the delicious aroma of bubbling cheese and tomatoes. Carrying Christine into the living room, she called out, "We're home, Booth."

Stepping out of the kitchen, Booth smiled, "Hey, I got home early for once and I started dinner."

Removing Christine from her carrier, Brennan carried her over to where Booth was standing. Kissing him, she smiled, "It smells delicious."

Returning her kiss, Booth leaned down and kissed his daughter's forehead, "There's time if you want to change clothes. I can watch Christine."

Placing the child into his waiting arms, Brennan confessed, "I really would like to change clothes. This new bra I'm wearing isn't as comfortable as I hoped it would be."

Glancing at her hands resting on her breasts, Booth wiggled his eyebrows, "Well, if it would make you more comfortable, go without one tonight."

Amused at his facial expression, Brennan patted his face, "I think I'll do that. That's good advice."

Watching her turn and walk upstairs, Booth called after her, "If you want to go shirtless that would be okay too."

Laughing, Brennan continued up the stairs. Looking into his daughter's angelic face, Booth sighed, "I think she's on to me, Honey."

oooooooooooooooooo

Arriving at the bottom of the stairs, dressed in an pair of shorts and one of Booth's sweatshirts, Brennan heard a knock at the door. Rolling up the sleeves as she walked over to the door, she informed Booth, "I'll get it." Arriving at the front door, she opened it to find her father on the front porch. "Dad."

A broad smile on his face, Max stepped forward and kissed his daughter, "Tempe, I thought I'd drop by and see how you and your family are doing."

Pleased to see him, Brennan stepped back and let him enter the house, "We're getting ready to eat dinner. You're welcome to join us."

Sniffing the air, Max licked his lips. "Oh thanks honey. It smells delicious. I'm famished."

Following his daughter into the kitchen, Max smiled at Booth, "Hey, Booth, I thought I'd come by for a little visit if that's alright."

Turning from the stove, Booth smiled, "Sure, dinner's almost ready. There's beer in the fridge along with water, juice and tea. Help yourself."

Opening the fridge door, Max pulled out a beer and opened the cap. "I was just telling Tempe that it's smells good in here."

Pleased, Booth opened the oven door and withdrew a large pan, "I made vegetable lasagna. There's plenty." After placing the hot pan on the kitchen island, Booth turned off the stove and moved a plate of sliced Italian bread from the counter to the island.

Brennan, removing a bowl of salad from the fridge along with some butter and salad dressing, carried it all over to the island, "We haven't seen you for awhile. Where have you been?" Handing their baby over to Booth, Brennan moved Christine's infant seat from the kitchen table to the dinning room table then came back for her daughter. Carrying the child over to the seat, she placed Christine in it and buckled the strap to keep her safely in it.

Sipping his beer, Max replied, "Well, I went to see Russ for a couple of days and then went up to New Jersey to visit a buddy of mine. I . . . uh, I hired a kid I know that's a computer genius and I asked him to see if he could track down that lunatic Pelant everyone has been looking for. Roy tracked him to Maryland and then after that he lost him. I was hoping I had good news for you since I know everyone has been looking for him."

A little shocked, Brennan shook her head, "Dad, you need to stay out of that. Pelant is a very dangerous man. Let the FBI and Angela look for him."

Scooping some lasagna on to a plate along with some salad, Max carried it over to the dinning room table and sat down next to his granddaughter, "I get that Honey, but we were just looking. It's not like I was going to try to capture the guy. I'm old and I had a hip replacement not too long ago. I can't do the things I could when I was a young man. I'm just looking that's all."

Walking back into the kitchen, Brennan filled her plate and carried it into the dinning room along with a baby bottle filled with milk. Concerned, she warned him, "Pelant is a murderer, Dad. Don't draw attention to yourself or anyone else. You know what he did to me. Just stay out of this."

His fork trying to saw through the melted cheese, Max commented, "Anyway, he's disappeared. Do you think he left the country?"

His plate stacked high with lasagna and bread, Booth playing along with Max, placed it on the table along with the butter and sat down, "That's what Angela and the Bureau is starting to think happened. I'd like to find him and bring him in, but if he left the country then I hope he goes someplace dangerous, like . . . I don't know, an island with a volcano and he falls, in the sorry son-of-a-bitch."

Laughing, Max remarked, "Maybe he'll go swimming in some shark infested waters and they'll eat his sorry ass."

Not completely mollified, Brennan picked up the baby bottle and offered it to her child. Christine, sucking on the bottle, waved her fists in appreciation. "Just stop looking for him, Dad. It's too dangerous."

Swallowing his bite of lasagna, Max nodded his head, "Sure, don't worry about it. Besides like I said, it looks like he disappeared."

Buttering his slice of bread, Booth remarked, "I'll see what Angela says about this. I'll see where she's at in her search. Right now she's barely talking to me but she is doing her job and that's the important thing. Maybe Pelant is gone. If he is then I have some stuff I need to take care. I just need to figure out how I'm going to do it."

Winking at Booth, Max smiled, "It's about time, this has been going on long enough."

Puzzled about the tension radiating from Booth, Brennan decided to ignore it and eat her dinner.
