Chapter 8: Cat and Mouse
"The Empire haven't been very active recently" Kanan was in the common room looking over some notes about why the past couple of missions have been easy.
"Fulcrum doesn't know anything either" Hera walked in with Sabine, Ezra and Zeb.
"Where's Riley?" Kanan wanted to talk to him about joining the crew.
"He's doing final health checks on our unknown passenger" Sabine explained "Why?"
"I need to speak to him" Kanan was about to get up but Riley walked in with a kid on crutches.
"Sit right there" Riley caught the look of Kanan.
"Riley, we need to ask you something" Kanan looked at Hera "Since it's your ship, I think you have the right to ask"
Hera walked over to Riley and hugged him "Welcome to the Spectors"
"Thanks, but why now" Riley thought that they were planning something. "I thought you needed trust"
"We got that when you helped rescue me" Sabine joined Hera in the hugging.
"Oh, this is Marcus Zelun. I was tasked by Fulcrum to protect him" Riley picked up his helmet from the table.
"Hi, so am I going or going home?" Marcus asked.
"The mission was to get you home, but with recent events you're going back to Fulcrum and they'll you from there" Riley passed a picture to Marcus. "We've friends for a long time so if you ever need any help, don't hesitate to ask"
"I don't have anything to give you" Marcus frowned.
"Your friendship was enough" Riley walked away with Sabine and Ezra.
"So, did they torture you?" Riley was concerned for his sister.
"No, they didn't even talk to me" Sabine was confused.
"Must be the same reason as low security on all ships" Ezra suggested.
"Most likely, I'll see if I can get any information" Riley ran off to his and Sabine's room.
"So, Sabine I've been thinking about us and I'll stop trying to flirt" Ezra rubbed the back of his neck.
"No, I kind of like it" Sabine gave a playful smile then walked to her room.
Sabine walked into her room not seeing Riley using a Datapad on his bunk.
"So, how do you feel about him?" Sabine jumped.
"Is it a problem?" Sabine looked annoyed.
"For now" Riley jumped down from his bunk. "I just don't know yet"
"You can't decide for me" Sabine got really angry now. "I know you're just trying to protect me but this isn't protecting"
"I didn't mean it like that" Riley put on his helmet. "I'm going to town for some information, just don't take it the wrong way"
Riley left and Sabine didn't like her brother taking control, so she thought of a plan.
"Hey Ezra, I need your help" Sabine smirked.
When Riley got back he saw Sabine and Ezra talking, he went to give Sabine some paint he picked up but stopped when Sabine kissed Ezra. Riley just turned round and walked to their room.
"Have I been too harsh, I can see that they do really love each other but I can't risk losing her" Riley thought about it until Sabine walked in.
"I'm sorry about earlier but you know why I did it" Riley still wearing his helmet.
"Yeah, I know but I'm just not use to it after 5 years" Sabine was about to leave but Riley put a hand on her and removed his helmet.
"Here, I picked it up. And you can date Ezra" Riley Jumped up onto his bunk and lied down.
"I'm not dating Ezra, yet" Sabine walked out.
"Yet" Riley fell asleep.
The next morning, everyone woke up to a painful scream coming from Sabine and Riley's room. When everyone got there, they saw Riley on the floor, bleeding and Sabine leaning over him.
"What happened?" Hera asked while running from the cockpit.
"I don't know he just started screaming and I helped him onto the floor but won't stop screaming" Sabine was now crying heavily.
"I can't take it!" Zeb pushed through and punched Riley in the face.
"Zeb!" Hera turned round and pushed him outside.
"It fixed the problem didn't it?" Zeb said defensively.
"Yeah, but that was uncalled for" Hera walked back to Riley and turned him over to see if there were any wounds on his back.
She saw a tattoo about the height of his shoulder blades. It was a blue shield with names, the names were Andrew, Lucia and Sabine. The first two names were crossed off. Then Marcus came sprinting down the hallway.
"Riley, remember stay calm and try to remember wh-" Marcus was cut off by a knocked out orange man on the floor. "Or that works"
"You know what this is about" Hera wanted answers bad but Sabine even more.
"Tell us!" Sabine shouted still crying.
"Ok, it's about the day everything changed. He said something about a scar hurting every time he has a dream"
"But why does it hurt?" Sabine trying to put Riley on her bunk.
"I don't know the last 2 years, he never spoke about it" Marcus turned "Is it alright if I go back to sleep"
"Sure" Hera smiled. "You guys go back to sleep, Sabine shout us if anything happens"
"O-ok" Sabine barely got out of her mouth over the crying.
"Oh, and who's the other two names on his back" Hera asked softly.
"Our parents, good night" Sabine lied down thinking about what Marcus meant by 'The day everything changed.'
"Night Sabine" Hera left.
A couple hour later Riley woke up on Sabine's bunk, his shoulder hurt like hell but not as much as his head and centre back. He got out only to be met by Sabine above him.
"Nice tattoo" Sabine didn't look very happy.
"What's wrong?" Riley looked confused.
"Do you not remember last night?" Sabine jumped down and hugged him.
"No, I don't" Riley hugged back. "Did I scream?"
"Badly, I was scared" Sabine hugged him tighter. "Wanna talk about it?"
"Only you" Riley moved to the bed and sat down.
"Deal" Sabine exclaimed.
"I scream because when I was on a Star destroyer a couple years ago, I met the man who took away our parents. They kept me there for two months, mentally and physically torturing me" Riley picked up his helmet. "That was on Dantooine, after I escaped I ran into Fulcrum"
"Come on Riley, let's just forget about it. Don't want you screaming again" Sabine pulled Riley and ran off.
