Chapter 14: Please Don't Leave
Riley woke up with Anne's head on his chest, he slowly moved it onto the pillow without her waking. He walked to the kitchen where he was met by Hera who was sitting at the table.
"Morning Hera" Riley started making a cup of coffee.
"Morning Riley, did you have a good sleep?" Hera gave a cheeky grin.
"No nightmares, so I'd say it was good" Riley was drinking some coffee when Chopper rolled in, he gave off a series of noises.
"Thanks Chop, go wake the others" Hera waved her hand. "The Imperials have finally stopped the search on Mandalor, Anne and Jack can go home if they want to"
"When should we tell them?" Riley spat out his coffee. "Now I remember why I never drink it"
"Too much?" Hera laughed when Riley washed out his mouth.
"Horrible" Riley sat at the table with Hera.
"We need to tell them together, are you ready to let her go?" Hera asked reluctantly.
"No, but if she wants to go then I won't stop her" Riley leaned back holding his chest. "I need to check on Anne's injuries"
"What until we tell them" Hera was about to speak but stopped when Jack walked in.
"Morning all" Jack looked really happy.
"What's with you?" Riley looked scared to say the least.
"Being roommates with Zeb isn't half bad"
"You can say that again, some time to sleep" Zeb walked in with the same look as Jack.
"Ezra isn't a half bad roommate either" Sabine walked in followed by Ezra.
"At least she doesn't see me as more art" Ezra looked tired and sat down at the table next to Hera. "Tell Chopper to stop zapping me in the mornings"
"Well if it wakes you up in the mornings" Kanan snickered as he walked in.
"He zapped me too!" Anne almost screamed as she walked in.
"Stop it Chopper, I know how to dismantle you" Riley said sternly. "We told you to wake them up, not electrocute them"
Chopper gave off a series of beeps then left.
"Damn droid" Zeb said under his breath.
"Ok, so we have some news" Hera looked at Anne and Jack. "You two can now go home"
"What?" Jack stood up straight. "Finally"
"Can I stay here?" Anne asked weakly.
"Yes, but that means you'll have to do things around the Ghost since you will be part of the crew" Hera smiled.
"No, we need to go home" Jack grabbed Anne's arm.
"Why can't I stay here?" Anne yanked her arm free.
"Because this isn't a life for you" Jack sighed heavily. "I know you want to fight them Empire, but what about our family?"
"I'm sure they'll understand" Anne also calmed down. "Can we do this in private?"
"It's better" Jack and Anne left, the rest of the crew heard shouting. After 15 minutes Anne walked in and sat down next to Riley.
"You alright?" Riley asked caringly.
"What kind of work do you do around here?" Anne asked Hera. "I'm the piolet so I just fly the ship, but it needs maintenance often, why?"
"Because I have until we reach Mandalor to decide" Anne leaned against Riley. "What about you?"
"I'm the medic so I check to make sure everyone's ok and take care of them if not, I sometimes help with repairs but I'm not an engineer" Riley replied openly.
"Sabine?"
"I'm the explosives specialist, I also sometimes help with the ties"
"Ezra?"
"I'm mostly doing Jedi training but I do a lot of maintenance on the ship"
"Zeb?"
"I just do what they need me to do" Zeb yawned.
"Kanan?"
"I train Ezra and I also help with the supply runs, trades and when Hera isn't around to piolet the ship"
"Sounds boring" Anne slouched a little making herself comfy.
"Was the last two weeks boring?" Riley smirked.
"Good point"
"Come with me, we need to check those wounds" Riley and Anne left for the med bay.
When they got there, Anne got on the bench while Riley grabbed some tools.
"I hope you don't mind removing your shirt, I need to check the full wound and bandaging" Riley walked over to Anne who just looked at Riley. "Do you want Hera to do the checks?"
"It's not that, I don't want to leave but Jack made some good points" Anne removed her revealing she wasn't wearing a bra. "What do you think I should do?"
Riley removed the bandaging showing a large red circle on her stomach. "I don't know, I feel the same"
"Come on Riley, I need your help" Anne sat up when Riley placed a hand on the healed wound.
"Does this hurt?" Anne shook her head. "I think you should discuss it with everyone in your family, they might want to hear why?"
"Yeah, will you come to see my family?" Anne asked lightly.
"Of course, if you want me to" Riley checked Anne's back.
"Enjoying yourself?" Anne teased.
"Nope, just a lot of red marks" Riley walked in front of Anne and picked up a small device. "I need another blood check, are you ok with that?"
Anne nodded her head and tried not to scream when Riley cut her arm just enough for it to bleed.
"Sorry" Riley looked through the data pad and was relieved that she didn't have any infection. "You'll be fine, let me clean your arm"
Riley walked to the sink and grabbed a cloth, wet it and went back to Anne.
"Riley, if I stay I want you to be more careful" Anne put her shirt back on.
"I can't promise that" Riley started to clean the wound. "But I can try"
"That's better" Anne put a plaster on her arm seeing how the blood trailed further than the wound. "Thanks Riley, you know how to make me feel better"
"I try" Riley tickled Anne before the two walked out. "Besides, you're easy to cheer up"
Anne and Riley walked into the cockpit where everyone else was waiting.
"Are you ready?" Hera aske while putting in the coordinates.
"I've decide to talk to the rest of my family" Anne sat in one of the chairs.
"Maybe they'll make you see sense" Jack snapped at his sister.
The trip to Mandalor was short and silent, everyone went to sleep but Anne. She was thinking about whether she should leave Riley and the rest of the crew or Jack and the rest of her family. After 3 hours through hyperspace, they arrived.
"Riley" Anne shook Riley. "Riley"
Riley woke up to Anne leaning over him.
"We've arrived, Jack can catch up later" Anne helped Riley up and the two left for Anne's house after they landed.
On the way there, Anne was going on about her dilemma but Riley listened to all of it. Finally the two reached Anne's home.
"Don't say anything about me getting shot, please" Anne begged Riley.
"Fine, but if they find out I can't do anything" Riley looked into Anne's eyes. "I'll always protect you"
Anne hugged Riley for a short moment and pressed the doorbell. The door opened by a tall man with a well grown beard, about in his 30's.
"Anne! It's good to see you again" the man looked around. "Where's Jack"
"We let him sleep on the ship, he needed it" Anne said. "May we come in, we need to talk to you"
"Fine, but your friend needs to take off his helmet" the man let them through.
Riley took off his helmet and walked with Anne into the living room.
"Mom!" Anne ran over and hugged her mother.
"Anne, it's been to-" the woman stopped when she saw Riley. "I recognise those eyes"
"Hi, I'm Riley Wren. Sabine Wren's sister" Riley jumped when the man grabbed his shoulder.
"Why are you here?" the man said angrily.
"I'm here with Anne to talk about her joining the rebellion" Riley was punched in the face and flew back.
"I don't mind my daughter fighting the Empire, but after what you did 7 years ago" the man approached Riley and Riley just stared.
"Where did you get that scar?" the man picked up Riley.
"I was hit with the end of a rifle when my parents were taken away" Riley looked at Anne.
"I'm Martin, sorry about punching you but I still don't trust you, none of my family does. That's my wife, Beatrice"
"Riley are you ok?" Anne asked Riley worryingly.
"I'm fine, are you ready to talk?" Riley picked up his helmet.
"Yes" and with that they started.
Anne told her parents about the day of when Sabine left the academy, then about when she met Riley and his crew, what happened since and Riley's story.
"Did you get shot?" Martin asked Anne sternly.
"Um…no" Anne knew she messed up.
"You hesitated" Beatrice said.
"I'll ask again, did you get shot?" Martin said with a hint of anger.
"Yes" Anne replied weakly.
"What?!" Beatrice jumped up and checked her daughter. "Where? How? And by who?"
"Calm down I'm fine. I was shot about 2 weeks ago and it was when we were getting of the planet. Riley was delayed because he was holding off storm troopers to make sure everyone got off the planet safely, but they caught up to Riley when he thought we were safe. I make shot in the stomach and Riley did everything he could to save me, I died three times and he still didn't give up" Anne explained.
"You died three times?!" Beatrice looked at Martin. "I don't know how to feel about this"
"We should let her, it sounds like she'll be fine" Martin walked up to Riley. "Promise me you'll protect her"
"I promise" Riley was shocked when Riley hugged him.
Jack walked through the door.
"Jack?" Martin called as he let go of Riley.
"I'm here, I guess Anne's already told you"
"Yes and we're letting her go" Beatrice hugged jack when he entered the room.
"Fine, it's your decision" He turned to Riley. "But you're responsible"
"I know, and I already made a promise" Riley hugged Anne.
"Anne, is there something you need to tell us?" Martin looked at the two.
"Riley's my boyfriend" Anne looked at her dad.
"Now I know you'll be safe" Martin sat down. "Please stay the night, it's been a while and we rarely see you"
"Please Anne" Beatrice pleaded.
"Sure, I'd love to" Anne let go of Riley and sat down, Riley sat on the floor.
"So tell me about this crew Riley" Martin asked as he stroked his beard.
"There are 6 others, a Twi'lek, a Lasat, a Jedi, a Padawan, a Droid and my sister. The Twi'lek is a piolet called Hera and likes to be a motherly figure. The Lasat is named Zeb and is a bit lazy but quite arrogant as well. There's the Jedi called Kanan and is human, he survived order 66 and is now teaching his Padawan. The Padawan is called Ezra who is also human, his parents were taken away for speaking out against the Empire. The droid is C1-10P or Chopper, he was built by Hera and is annoying. Finally, my sister or Sabine, we spilt up 6 years ago on her birthday and only met back up a month ago" Riley listened to what Martin had to say.
"Sounds like an interesting group" Martin looked at Jack. "Please make our favourite meal, tonight is special.
The 5 of them had dinner, they chatted for a few hours and then retired to bed. Everyone went to their rooms and Riley insisted to sleep on the sofa but Martin wouldn't have it. Riley and Anne fell asleep after a short chat, they slept peacefully.
