Chapter 17: Don't Cry For Me
Riley was still unconscious when he arrived at the Duchess Satine Memorial Hospital. Sabine knew a doctor there, they took Riley in for a scan on the brain. Everyone was waiting for the results, when a doctor called for them.
"How is he?" Sabine asked worried.
"He'll be fine, there's nothing to worry about" the doctor stopped at a door. "This is the ward he's staying in, you have 2 hours until visiting hours are over. You have to come back at 10am tomorrow, he'll also have to stay here until further notice"
"Thanks Alex" Sabine hugged him for a short moment then walked through the door.
It was near empty, a large room but few patients. It smelled like strong medicine, and little sound was emitted. The walked to the end of the ward only to see Riley deep in thought.
"Riley?" Anne walked up to him. "Riley?"
She shook him but still no answer, then she punched him.
"What?" Riley leaded to the other side of the bed. "Oh, sorry"
"What were you thinking about?" Anne sat beside him.
"Death, it was weird" Riley sat up straight. "It was nothing. You couldn't feel nothing, see nothing, hear nothing and remember nothing but darkness"
"How do you feel?" Snow asked standing on the other side of Anne.
"Why do you always ask me that? I feel fine, I'll be able to walk tomorrow" Riley looked at Anne. "I'm sorry, I know I should have been more careful"
"It's fine, you always pull through" Anne kissed Riley.
"Only because you're all there to help me" Riley looked at Kanan.
"How did you use Ezra's weapon like that?" Kanan asked trying not to attract any attention.
"It didn't look that hard, so I stopped the killing blow" Riley happily answered.
"Who shot you? Is my question" Sabine said leaning on the end of the bed.
"I don't know, it was strong" Riley placed a hand on the back of his head.
"Why didn't you just shout us?" Ezra asked.
"I didn't think you'd hear me"
"What about the dream you had before you woke up the first time?" Anne asked scared. "You didn't remember who I was and you said you thought I died"
"I didn't remember you because I thought you died. The dream was all of you being cut down while we we're trying to escape" Riley looked into Anne's purple eyes. "You were the first to go"
"I'm here now" Anne hugged Riley.
"When can I leave?"
"We don't know" Hera said worried. "They could have made us by now"
"Ok, let's hope soon" Riley looked at Zeb. "Nice scar"
"Oh, you like it? I got it when a storm trooper got good" Zeb snarled.
"Where's Chopper?"
"On the Ship, droids aren't allowed in here" Hera put simply.
"Sabine come here" Anne said looking around the curtain. "Is that Michael?"
"Yeah, why is he here?" Sabine looked at Anne. "Let's go pay him a visit"
"I need to give you guys something" Riley brought out some boxes. "I bought you all gifts, but they're for when the unfortunate happens"
"Where did you get these?" Kanan asked, he was in a hospital and couldn't contact outside world.
"I made a phone call, Alex is an old family friend" Riley passed them the gifts.
All the gifts were colour coded. Hera's was green, Kanan's was brown, Ezra's was blue, Snow's was white, Choppers was orange, Zeb's was a light purple, Anne's was a dark purple and Sabine's was pink.
"Why?" Snow set her box down.
"Because I need to give you all something for when the unfortunate happens" Riley looked around.
"What's if we die first?" Ezra looked around the box.
"First clue, you're not the one stuck in hospital" Kanan said.
"Fair enough, thanks Riley" Ezra said putting the box down.
"You all need to leave" Alex poked his head around the corner. "Agent Kallas is here after his daughter fell ill, the Empire's sending everyone home"
"Ok, we'll be back tomorrow" Hera said while leaving. "Bye"
"Bye Riley" Kanan said turning around the corner.
"Bye bulls eye" Zeb said laughing.
"Bye, get well" Ezra said leaving.
"Bye Riley" Snow kissed him before leaving, she didn't realise that Anne watched it happen. "Oh um…"
"On the ship, now!" Anne pushed her away. "Riley, what was that about?"
"Everyone was forced to leave then she kissed me" Riley saw the anger in her eyes.
"Bye Riley, don't leave me" Anne hugged Riley for a solid ten seconds, then kissed him before leaving.
"I won't Anne" Riley lied down trying to sleep.
Back On The Ship
"What the hell?!" Anne was furious. "You don't do that"
"It was only friendly" Snow said defensively.
"I don't care, that was not alright" Anne screamed.
"I didn't hear him complain" Snow snapped.
"I'm his girlfriend!" Anne was about to hit Snow but Hera walked in.
"What in the name of Ryloth is going on here?" Hera looked angry.
"She kissed Riley!" Anne glared at Snow.
"That is not ok" Hera said calmly.
"Why did he rescue me?" Snow asked Hera.
"Because Riley doesn't let people die, ever" Hera turned back to the cockpit pit and walked in.
"I'm going to sleep" Anne stormed off.
"Not with Riley" Snow said under her breath.
"Say that again I dare you!" Anne heard it clearly.
"Riley could have done better" Snow said quite confidently.
"Maybe he could of, but we're together so get used to it" Anne stormed into her room.
With Anne
"Why me? She right" Anne muttered to herself.
She sat on the bed and lied down, she felt something under her head. It was a purple box, not very big but it looked like a gift. The note on it said 'A gift from Riley, only open when he dies'. She found Riley's helmet next to her, she put it on. It was big, and heavy, the visor was clear. She took it back off since it started to fall off her head.
"What's this?" She found a data pad on the table with some recordings on it.
She played the first video.
"It been a year since I ran away from Sabine, I feel guilty, what's if she's dead already. I hope she's alright, because I'm currently trapped in some deal for person called Fulcrum. Weird person, always tries to give suicidal missions which never work. Here she come's now" The log ended.
Second video.
"I saw her today, she was with a Lasat. At least I know she'll be safe, they're too stubborn to die. I was about to say hi but what's if she's still angry, what's if she'll shoot me on the spot. She's now wearing the Mando gear I gave her, she always loved colours so it's no surprise she looks like a paint shop exploded. I'm about to head to Mandalor on a mission for Fulcrum, hopefully this won't end badly" The log ended.
Third video.
"It's been 2 years since I last saw her, me and Marcus are currently held in an imperial cell. We heard some guards talking of some rebels on the planet below, we're not sure what planet but it's a planet none the less. Marcus I hear guards coming, I'll get us out of here" The log ended.
The fourth and final video.
"It's been a month since I joined the crew, I also have a girlfriend Anne. She special, she didn't try to hit on me or flirt with me, she even waited, but that's not the best part about her. She calms me, she understands me and trusted me instantly. The best part is what make her Anne, she cares about me deeply and she has the best smile. She makes living worth every moment, I hope she doesn't hate me because of my secret. I'm going to tell her after we raid this warehouse, but if you're watching this then I'll tell you. I'm going away, I get too many people hurt and I need to keep you safe. I'm sorry Anne, but it's the best for everyone" The log ends.
"Riley" Anne put the data pad and box on the table, she then fell asleep hugging Riley's helmet.
The Next Morning At The Hospital
The crew had went to visit Riley the next day, but Anne wanted to talk to Riley alone. She walked up to him and shook him, he woke.
"Hey, how are you?" Riley invited Anne to sit next to him on the bed.
"Not good, you're leaving me?" Anne was hurt.
"I don't know, after that last mission I had second thoughts" Riley looked out the window.
"Why did you choose me?"
"Choose you for what?" Riley looked back at Anne.
"To be your girlfriend" Anne shuffled closer to Riley.
"Didn't you listen to the rest of it?" Riley put his arm around Anne.
"Yes, so why are you leaving?" Anne rested her head on Riley's chest as they lied down.
"I'm not, I'm sorry I scared you" Riley pulled Anne closer. "I know see I can cause more harm leaving, than staying"
"You said you wouldn't leave"
"And I won't, unless necessary"
"You two look comfortable" Snow smirked from the corner.
"Yeah, deal with it!" Anne snapped.
"We'll talk about this when I can leave, but for now I want to know the reason" Riley sat up.
"It's when she kissed you yesterday" Anne jumped off the bed.
"Still, probably better than every time you kissed" Snow walked over to Anne.
"Look, I get out of here tonight" Riley held the back of his head.
"Are you ok?" Anne asked with concern.
"I'm fine, just got a bruise"
"I thought you couldn't leave until further notice" Snow walked over to Riley.
"I've been cleared" Riley looked at Snow. "Why did you kiss me?"
"Because you saved me" Snow looked at Anne. "And I think you needed a reward"
"Just go get everyone else" Anne snapped.
"I'll be back" Snow walked off, giving Riley one last look before leaving.
"That girl, she's going to get it" Anne said under her breath.
The crew came through and started to talk to Riley, mostly about the last battle. Kanan mostly asked some questions about how he learned to fight. Hera asked some questions on his adventures. Zeb mostly sat in the corner, while Snow watched Anne being affectionate next to Riley. Anne was done with her questions and Sabine wanted to know about Mandalor. Ezra just thought the whole time, he overheard Anne listen to the recording back on the ship. He wanted to know why Riley wanted to leave in the first place.
